From the looks of the new ingame stuff they have shown, the game actual looks pretty good. I'm glad they went away from that crummy open city idea they had when I tried it.

The sandbags are modelled from the trailer, with a normal map. Can't see any photo-raped tiled normals in the trailer at all, must have been placeholder material. I like what I see from the new footage, looks a bit "bloom-i-fied" though

God I hate Geoff Keighley. From watching that trailer for wolf, the two of them managed to convince me that all this game will be is another generic shooter with a new gimmick to turn the world green.

[Blocked Image: https://migrationtest.mapcore.org/public/style_emoticons/default/mapcore_smilies/emot_shakehead.gif] Please god, don't let this game be the biggest disappointment of 2009.

Btw, which engine is this running on?

    Edit:

Wolfenstein uses id's Tech 4 engine, which was the technology behind Doom 3 and Quake 4. The game is being developed by Raven Software, using engine technology from id Software, for the PC, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. The modifications to the game engine include depth of field effects, as well as the addition of a supernatural realm, called The Veil. While in The Veil the player has access to certain special abilities, such as the power to slow down time, to get around obstacles that exist in the real world, or even to be able to defeat enemies that have an otherwise impenetrable shield.

Btw just saw that TV show and the game does indeed looks good, I was a bit more impressed seeing ingame footage and gameplay, than that crappy trailer. Oh and what's with all the green?!

Haha, love that "the veil" is mentioned in the same sentence as engine technology.

    "New engine features :

    -Normal maps

    -Depth of field

    -Supernatural realm

    -Ambient occlusion"

very disappointing. rtcw was a blast but this doesn't look convincing at all. i don't get why id is letting raven soft rape all their ips.

I know that there is a current trend in the industry to try and move away from the crowded holiday season, but at the same time, this game trying to get released over the summer is making me think no one actually believes it will be a hit. Truth be told what's be shown so far hasn't exactly interested me all that much either.

A summer release, to me, means you don't even want to go head to head with the fall releases of the year...

The gametrailer-trailer looks better, apart from the green stuff.

wait, what? Looking at it from both a consumer and publisher perspective, I can't see how funneling all the big releases into the same 2 month time span helps anyone. Whenever a Halo or Call of Duty is set to come out, stay the fuck out of its way. It's nothing but smart to try and avoid those periods, IMO.

No, not really, both are mature violent action games. They're not completely the same but in a venn diagram of the two there's a huge overlap.

People don't have a problem buying TWO WHOLE VIDEOGAMES within the same time span of each other, especially when both are AAA "must have" products. It's the little guys, the ones seen as a possible risk to purchase, that suffer from this kind of competition.

you're making too much of an abstraction. we can also go further up and say they're both computer games. or that they're both games. or that they're both media. you get the point.

they do not share the same demographic. GTA was released earlier on the ps3/360. this was merely a rehash for those who don't have a console or would rather want it on a PC, which isn't a huge lot. i'm not going to bother with more arguments because i'm tired, but the demographic argument is enough to prove you wrong.
