I personally can't tell the difference unless it's changing live in front of me. I thought Crysis was running at at least like 45-50FPS running around the first few levels because it looked smooth to me, and then I turn on FRAPS and it's like 25FPS average
Now, if a 60FPS game drops to 25FPS because lots of stuff is going on or you stare into a HoM or something, then yes, that is noticeable. But, say theoretically, you took two groups of random people, and sat them down in front of a game, with one group seeing the game with an artificial 30fps limit, and the other with 60fps, and ask them what they thought of performance, the 30fps group is not gonna complain compared to 60fps group. If you let them play it then some people will notice, but not many, more if you use a first person game, but still, I think the majority of the group would be entirely unmoved by the difference.

Different games needs different FPS's. You can play splinter cell or other slow paced games with 30 fps with no problem, but with crysis you'll notice the 25 fps if you use your speed and run fast through the jungle. (They've masked the lag a bit with their blur, but it was still very noticable for me).
If you play QuakeWorld with anything less than 60 fps then you die a lot more

not quite sure if you've noticed, but we're shipping a PC game too, on an IP that was born on PC? I'm also not a game designer, I build levels that would be the same no matter what platform we ship on
Consoles really doesnt change an FPS as much as you'd think, give or take some balancing and mechnics like auto aim and what not.I was being sarcastic
It's okay though chris. You have been in Germany a long time now. -
Really what matters with frame rate is consistency. If it's jumping up and down, even if it's not too much it can get very jarring. If however it's totally consistent then the difference between 30 fps and 60 fps isn't a big deal.
-
Try Wipeout Fury alone with 60fps and with a friend on multiplayer with 30 Fps and you will see the difference

-
I personally do not feel or see much difference between 30 and 60 fps.
-
Maybe its a SP vs MP thing?

I hope the drop in texel density isn't because of something lame like ID realizing the final build of the game will be 70gb or something.

Gotta agree these shots don't look good enough to be featured like this. I mean what's up with that metal skeleton in the center of the shot, increase the max view distance to its spine please? That said I still dig the art style a lot.

You know what's worse then low-res textures? Quoting giant images in a forum over and over again.

During his keynote, John Carmack made a few statements indicating that id games would not be coming to the Android. Glad that won't be the case after all.

Mutant Bash TV should be out for the iPhone for $0.99 ($1.99 for HD version) quite soon. Might have to bust out the iPhone 3G sitting in the closet for it.

30 fps makes my eyes itch and makes me want to look away from the screen

Android huh?
So he's going to implement Rage in Java?
-
Looks like it. I do recall reading you can actually use native C++ on Android now so I doubt he's rewriting it in Java or anything like that.
-
yeah I think I read somewhere that you can get right into the core of android using c/cpp
-
There is an NDK, but from the google description, it's used along with the SDK. It sounds like he could do the performance critical parts in native code. Cool.

Isnt this game dead yet.
j/k but man, I only hear news of this uninteresting iphone game.
-
I agree, I'm really not interested in these types of games on a phone. Or even a portable game system.
