ok guys, since no poll was being created i felt like i should be the one to ignite this. not sure this poll will work, but at least we'll be one step closer to the contest, since thats what we seem to be wanting. the poll runs for 7 days and ive added options based on the suggestions in this thread:

    viewtopic.php?f=31&t=11345&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&start=75

mods are -of course- free to alter the poll as they like.

Source. Are we deciding the other specifications of the competition after the engine has been chosen or is the engine the only factor?

no. there has to be a theme and rules. i think the next logical step is to determine the theme, and then the rules.

    In-house engine.

Wait, in-house is out?! I thought Alan Wake was using in-house

EDIT: Oh yeah, and in a slightly more meaningful contribution - I think Portal would be the best idea for the next contest, so I'm gonna vote for Source. As much as I'd love to see the contest open to all engines, it becomes increasingly difficult to ensure people are actually playing the entries rather than voting for the prettiest screenshots. And if that's the case, people using a non-UE3/CE2 engine are gonna lose by default It also gets hard to pick a theme, as engines are naturally suited to different themes.

No specific engine. I'd love to see people compete with maps made across the board of the most popular mapping engines. I, personally, can make some impressive as fuck maps in Unreal 1, which isn't even in the poll!
