Why don't you get a desktop PC if you plan to use it for games and graphic design... you'd get a much stronger computer for your money. Surely you won't be playing games or doing graphic design outside in the park will ya?

tbh - there's not many laptops fully capable of gaming and graphic design but yes macbook, alienware and dell highend will do it then. If this is outta your budget go for something like Samsung or Fujitsu Siemens. I've seen good gaming capable systems from both these brands and I think you have some good support for these (esp. Samsung has not disappointed me to this point and I have worked with 4 or 5 different samsung laptops for quite a while).

regarding gaming on notebooks: don't do that! if you are a hard core gamer, then get your self a nice desktop rig. if you want to play old games via emulation, then i wouldnt care.

i agree. macbook is not worth its price tag. if i were you, i'd go to http://www.zepto.com or similar, and customize your own computer. it'll be smaller and better than a macbook, and it will cost you half the price. while i am using a 3 year old acer right now (that still works as a dream), my next laptop is definitely gonna be a zepto. also, their customer service is awesome. pretty much half my uni class uses zeptos.
I just ordered HP 8710w. I am going to study digital arts and entertainment in belgium and the school provided some laptops that were good for the education.
So I took the HP 8710w. It really has a powerfull configuration. Suited for gamedeveloment and 3d design.

I have a macbook pro from mid-2006 and just put latest OS Leopard (or whichever OS it is) on it with "supported" bootcamp+drivers on it. Runs amazingly well for games as well as very complicated databases I use in my business. It runs Windows XP better than my "native" Windows desktop. The newer macbookpros have faster/bigger/better hardware but ever since the latest bootcamp software came out with the new OS, my mac runs like a dream even though it runs windows.
That said, ain't the cheapest.
I already got a desktop pc, which I can upgrade for ~1500kr (5kr = 1$) which would make it high-end again.
Only thing about macs, I don't know shit about them 
And back in the days they sucked for gaming

Intel Macs can boot Windows without any emulation. hence they support games as every other computer.

Vista sucks ! Go for a Mac or wait patiently Windows7 !
That's what I hear and that's what I believe, so HPs are a good choice, since atleast here in Norway they'll supply you with a XP recovery CD. So you get both Vista and XP.
I don't think I'll go for a Mac, they are nice and all, probably awesome to work on, but I'm more of a kid who needs to play games.
The laptop won't be my first choice when it comes to work, but I'd be able to put down 10000kr.

i have both...it's nice to be able to game when on the road esp if you travel for work.
You want a laptop that last for years for both graphic design and gaming? That puts you in quite a high price segment and a place where I really would recommend a desktop pc instead.
