As other people have mentioned, Blizzard have some excellent art directors, but I am still really sad to see that they are going in the WoW direction with both SC2 and D3. Diablo deserves a darker, realistic and gritty look.
Diablo 3

Maybe they just have no imagination beyond the WoW style.
-
You're nuts. Diablo 2 had plenty of influence on WoW to begin with, and it was stylized, too. It had brighter, more colorful locations than the first one. And, yet again, they're doing some new things with a sequel.
When I step back the similarites between this and Fallout 3 are a real crackup.

Which one is WoW ?

The second.

Well, actually we don't really know about the storyline to be honest. Maybe the game will become darker and darker as you progress into the game.
I'm a bit disappointed too in the brightness and colorful environment, but I'm sure Blizzard will take community's advices concerning the aesthetics.

They did it for StarCraft II because it looked way too cartoonish at first (even if I prefer the old version of the Space Platform tileset, the blue-ish one, it was really sexy) and now when I look at some screenies I really feel the gritty, rusty atmosphere of StarCraft.
Wait & see.

Come on, guys. As long as the first Quill Rat you kill drops a polearm 3 times its size, the spirit of Diablo is preserved.

You guys should be glad that you get this and not Oblivion: Diablo

-
Basically, what Dux is saying is, 'add the Unreal engine filter to Diablo' and...
*BAM!*
Now you have your next-gen game.
-
Yep dux, I love the first screenie with the filter, but I don't really like the bottom one.

What do you mean? I would actually love that!
I love oblivion, it's the best RPG's ive played so far... not that I've played many, but I just think the FPS scene works really well on RPG genre.
oh and Dux, c'mon man, not everything should look like UE, get outta here...
-
You guys think that's an UEngine wannabe looker? Man you guys fail. I'm as rabid with this as stolve is as rabid with fallout3. Beware.
-
-
the cartoony look surprised me too, hopefully they will slap a moody filter on it

If not i'll just open my gfx colour settings and saturate it to hell.
-
I think the outdoors look way too much like Titan Quest (bright and happy).
They really need to make it look more like the sad tristram or rainy jungles in the D2.
-
I'm far more concerned about my l00ts at this point. Apparently, not only will armor be class specific, but you can only see the drops that you can pick up. No more selling Necro wands and Druid helms for 35k a piece. And no more trade, basically.
-
Not necessarily. GuildWars and Hellgate both used similar systems and there is plenty of trade in those games.
Personally I far prefer drops being reserved for each party member. Memories of Stormshields, Ist runes, Tal's armour etc dropping in front of me and being nabbed by someone else are just to painful to re-visit in the next version of the game.
-
Some of you people shouldn't be allowed near diablo.
