I appear to have been stuck at school with a project on my future career, well, just so happens my future career wants to be game level designing, reguardless of the fact I can never seem to complete a map. On top of that the java IRC applet dosen't seem to want to work there.

Here is where you do your part to help ensure a good grade for Mako:

(I am not asking that you fellows do the project for me, just some assistance with something I know next to jack about.)

    1. Explain what is needed of me to succeed in obtaining a job in said field (Educational Requirements, etc.)

    2.What would go on a resume(self explanitory I hope)

This is 100% serious my fellow mapcorians, so don't let me down now. More to come when I have working IRC.

    1. There are no set educational requirements for artists. It's all based on your portfolio. If a school is going to help you create a better portfolio, then it is something to consider. Right now there is no traditional procedure to follow to gain entrance into this field. Mods and projects are the best way, athough people in education won't believe you, or will tell you that when your game job dosen't happen you will wander the streets, selling your body for heroine money becuase you do not have a bachelors degree.

    2. Your resume would probably be all the experience you have had working for mods, and any other jobs you have had that show you have some responsibility in you.

The real question is where do you want to go in the long run. If you want to be a level designer--->game designer--->lead game designer--->executive producer/gaming god........then a college degree isn't always required. If and when you get to those management type positions, a college degree would probably calm potential investors should you decide to form your own studio and need money to get it started...but this is all theoretical.

In general a degree is looked upon more favorably by larger studios and publishers in general. often major studios are owned by publishers, such as EA, Activision, Ubisoft, THQ, etc... If you have enough talent and experience right now, you should be able to get a job (look at Klein with his new job at Ubi!).

As I continue to ramble...published mod work is probably the best...as in working on a mod that "goes retail" is the best mod experience, followed by high quality "non-retail" mods.

    In other words...what Zaphod said.

Note: it has been brought to my attention by several 10th Dan Blackbelts of the Obvious that my spelling is poor. You try typing all that in about 45 seconds with Hitler and his Hitler clones hovering around you.

    That is all.
