It's finally finished! I still have some recent work to pimp but I'm not allowed to until the game they are for is shipped... so the main gallery is a bit empty by now but I'll have more time during my vacations to create more pieces =)

Crits/bug reports are more than welcome, hope you guys like it!!

When you said empty, I didn't expect it to be that empty! Some nice stuff on there though.

But may I ask why some of the latter images open both a lightbox and a page with the same images? The first 2 pages don't do this, while it leaves the rest quite inconsistent.

It is indeed quite empty, but what you have looks good. Did you not do some an INS level though? Where are the pics from it? Also the pics should of course open in the same way.

Your site or at least your resume should also more clearly state if you are going for a position as env artist or level designer.

rather few but high quality pieces, than a lot of sucky ones!

Good job dude, I also added to my friends list on my webpage!

The INS level is there, right on your face D:

As for the lightbox thingy, I thought some minor pieces wouldn't be worth their own page but yeah, you guys are right. I'll use lightbox for all of them.

By the way, the lightbox script seems a bit bogus, it's spawning two windows. Or is it just me?

yepp - some of your images spawn twice. Never happend to me before (and I have used Lightbox quite often on own projects :S)

    good stuff thiago.

only thing that really bugs me is the HUGE 'Extra' link in the site navigation. i understand why you did it but it works against the purpose of an extra section. it completely draws the focus away from the central piece of your website, your portfolio.

another thing you could fix is moving the content area of the resume and extra pages to start at the top, like on the front page. on the resume page you could place the portugese language link somewhere else to make place, maybe to the right.

maybe you could also even move the content on all pages a bit to the right to give it a bit more space, you'd have to try to find out how it looks.

and while its a nice design i'd personally place the 'design by' somewhere not as obvious and make it a bit more subtle. if the purpose of your portfolio is to get you an env art or level design job i don't think most people will care that you created the design yourself, as sad as it sounds.

you certainly came a long way though good luck with your future endeavours

I agree, this is annoying as hell. The box is overused, but the vertical line of images is something I really don't see that often, and I like it far better. This might be because I have popups disabled, but I say get rid of the lightbox altogether.Other than that, huzzah! Damn good design, way to make your name prominent.

I didn't even know that the image of the INS map was a link. It would be better if each image that has a link had some sort of border clearly indicating that it's a hyperlink.

Minos my man! I checked out the portfolio and here is my crits for you:

    - the Level Design part tho right in the face is hard to find! the map pic looks like part of a header rather then part of the galerie. Make a thumbnail the size of the other stuff instead.

    - all pictures open in a different kinda way. its strange and seems buggy

    - Links to friends. I know a lot of people have them in their portfolios but i would remove them. The portfolio is a website about you and is supposed to give you a job. You don't want possible employers to compare you with others peoples skills or to even leave your portfolio to check other portfolios out!

ah ah, that's a very curious, yet true point of view!

looking good! I'd probably make some more content and include some texture flats. Also make sure to specify what type of job you are looking for. You can put an "objective:" line in your resume and briefly describe what you're looking for. I'm saying this because your portfolio has both level design and env art in it.

    cool

and, yes agreed about the links section. it's useless. don't put that on your portfolio.

Thanks for the crits guys Working on those things!

Kleinluka: Winter break starts in 2 weeks, I'll have 2 months to fill it with content =)

As for the map page: I'll also add a small thumb for it. I added google analytics to the site and that page is surprisingly one of the least visited.

Nice portfolio buddy, I like the idea of clicking each object to view the details about it, and the colour scheme is great, I have always preferred a dark background with content ontop of it.

Also, I think you'll find that an environment artist and level designer are the same thing (unless that was intentional), 3D artist is the term for a modeler .

It would also be a good idea to add a contact (your email address) and a download link to each object on your portfolio. If your worried about server space, than just get a free filefront account, the only limitations to uploading are the files must be less than 1gb and take less than 10 hours to upload.

Env Artist and Level Designer are not the same Env art does the beauty and level designer does the gameplay. As for contact info, I already embeded my email to all the pictures (at the bottom of each, it's very subtle), so it won't be a problem if someone saves them.

As for download links I don't think that's a good idea, with so many people stealing other people's work these days. I learned from my mistakes and will never release source files for my work again!

I meant download links to the finished pieces of work, not the source files for them.

Anyway, I think you'll find the term "Level designer" debatable, I have heard the term being used both ways.

World Builder, Level Designer, Mission Builder, World Designer, bleh... I've seen so many titles for the same thing.
