Vice City setting was awesome, but Id prefer SA over Vice City any day, just because of its size and possibilities. SA was alot more sandboxy-ish then VC, and this whole sandbox thingy is what GTA is all about for me.
GTA IV PC!!!

honestly, what good is a sandbox when you lack the immersion? vc had the immersion sa lacked, so even though it was smaller, i felt like playing a much better game. quality over quantity.
-
Well of course, it would have been better with more immersion, but really, if you are really after a strong story, immersion, atmosphere and all that, wouldn't you be better off playing a non sandbox game? A story intensive FPS for example? A game that really focusses on its story rather than trying to bring it all?
I want GTA for the one thing that few other games (try to) offer: complete and absolute freedom.

how many shooters have you seen based in the 80s miami? to my knowledge, none have been developed. while it's true that you could go the fps and just have a hook-in-gums story, vc offers a different atmosphere and location that has not yet been reproduced. for me, the sandbox element is just a feature - not what the games themselves should be based on.

Gmod has no immersion and people seem to like it a bunch
i don't think we're talking about the same type of sandbox here. plus, gmod isn't as much as mod/game as it is something you can fool around with. in the same sense, people play san andreas too, because some people like it for different reasons (see hourences' posts). you might also want to read posts after the post you're quoting to avoid questioning points that already have been answered.

Oh, I did. I just wanted to say something snarky.

VC was great because of its setting but SA was definitely the better and in the end more fun game. In real life i hate all that hip-hop and gangster culture portrayed in SA but still i loved the game and could enjoy playing this kind of character. I had no problem with the immersion. In fact i thought that was part of the kick to play someone that you would hate in real life.
