The BAGUET MAP PACK is about a little group of french mappers whose goal is to bring a bit a fresh and clean air to our favourite game, Day of Defeat: Source.

What are we going to do? That's simple, we're going to create some brand new quality maps in order to reconcile fun gameplay and immersive graphics.

Our team is composed of four mappers and has been working hard recently to develop these new maps with new and unique environments in locations yet unexplored by the game. Imagine yourself behind enemy lines, in the middle of the largest airborne operation of all times. Imagine yourself stuck in a german offensive, inside of a western european forest. And that's not finished yet, besides the fact that these maps are located in new environments, our main goal is to provide fast and efficient gameplay. When the round starts, the player is immediately thrown in combat for immediate play and fun.

We're not going to communicate anything more for the moment.

To help you wait, here's a little preview... beware, this place is dangerous.

News will follow until the map pack release.

    Stay tuned !

The team : Geoffroy alias "Kane" ; Marc alias "Moroes" ; Arnaud alias "Satyre" ; Quentin alias "Grippy".

Here's some fresh news about our Baguet Map Pack! This time, we're going to release a bit more informations on the pack, on our objectives and on a particular environment.

The Baguet Map Pack will be composed of four small-sized maps, each with its very own style. The environments will vary a lot between each map and the gameplay is meant to be fast and fun without sacrificing the graphical immersion and the war feeling. Our objective is to bring to the Day of Defeat Source community an alternative to these orange maps. New maps with immersion, optimisation and "furious" gameplay.

Now we're going to describe one of our four environments.

The following map is Grippy's work and is set up in an eastern European forest, where a battle is about to begin. Germans are entrenched in their very last positions and are ready for the allied attack... To help you imagine the place, here's two screenshots :

    [Blocked Image: http://pix.nofrag.com/e/6/4/ef6fdbc426a25246093efd2b12e8att.jpg]

A preview of the first contact zone between the two teams.

    [Blocked Image: http://pix.nofrag.com/d/c/d/42f4d311bae52d414da616b4c1631tt.jpg]

Even if the map is mostly set in an exterior environment, there's also some underground ways allowing the allied team to organize and plan their attack safely.

That's it! In the following news, we'll describe the other environments and give you a bit more informations!

    Stay tuned.

    The team.

So you thought the Baguet Map Pack was just a mirage? A way too large project to be handled by a small team of clumsy Frenchies? Not at all! Even though the news from the team have been quite sparse lately, the Baguet Map Pack is coming along - and coming along very well!

Today, we are proud to show you the evolution of the two maps featured in the previous news.

Here's a screenshot of Grippy's map. He decided to change the atmosphere: the action will now take place at twilight. A denser vegetation reinforces the player's sense of being in a forest. On a gameplay scale, several additional cover positions are designed to facilitate the Allies' progression.

As for Kane, he worked hard on a new atmosphere and the addition of several buildings. Not only for reinforcing the player's immersion in the Normandy bocage (behind enemy lines), but also for improving the gameplay.

    [Blocked Image: http://www.bidoulmarc.be/baguet_new/causeway1_mini.jpg]

And now, the thing that everyone was waiting for (or not), the first presentation of another map to be included in the pack: dod_nordhausen. Made by Moroes, Nordhausen's action is set in Germany, in the middle of the night. Allies will have to neutralize a V-1 rocket launch site. First, they will have to find the explosives, then infiltrate the base, and finally, destroy the launch platform and the V-1 warehouse.

There are more exciting news, and we're keeping a full belt of ammo in reserve for our upcoming announcements, so stay tuned! We'll soon reveal the fourth and last map of the Baguet Map Pack, along with some other crunchy bite-sized developments...

That's all for today soldiers, dismissed!

A sad news to begin with: the withdrawal of one of our members, Satyre: "I regretfully leave the Baguet Map Pack shortly before its release. Indeed, I just couldn't find the time to finish my map on schedule. School goes first, and I have to go on a mapping hyatus for the the time being. Sorry for this withdrawal at the last minute [...] ."

But do not fear! Satyre left us his map and the rest of the team is working hard on finishing it. The content of the pack won't be affected and we'll still offer four maps with totally different environments.

And so we present the fourth and last map from the Baguet project, dod_colonia, which takes place on the mountainous plateaus of Sicily during the Italian campaign. The map features an "attack/defense" gameplay: the objective for Allies is to capture a manor occupied and used as headquarters by the Wehrmacht.

[Blocked Image: http://www.bidoulmarc.be/baguet_new/Baguet_new4_A_mini.jpg] [Blocked Image: http://www.bidoulmarc.be/baguet_new/Baguet_new4_B_mini.jpg] [Blocked Image: http://www.bidoulmarc.be/baguet_new/Baguet_new4_C_mini.jpg]

Let's also add that those screenshots do not reflect Satyre's initial artistic orientation and that he will release his own version at a later date.

In other news, we're glad to (belatedly) announce that Cpt Ukulele, a 3D modeler well known in the mapping community, has joined the team. His arrival enabled us to work on more original content specially created for our maps! Here are some examples of the new models realized by the team:

And to conclude this news, here's a selection of pictures from the other maps in the pack that are nearing completion. We give you, respectively, dod_wildenthal, dod_nordhausen, dod_causeways:

[Blocked Image: http://www.bidoulmarc.be/baguet_new/Baguet_new4_F_mini.jpg] [Blocked Image: http://www.bidoulmarc.be/baguet_new/Baguet_new4_G_mini.jpg] [Blocked Image: http://www.bidoulmarc.be/baguet_new/Baguet_new4_H_mini.jpg]

    Playtests are now imminent!
