I'm a bit late to the party but here are my thoughts of the game so far (i'm around 20 hours in):

It totally is oblivion in a new facade except for the v.a.t.s thingy. Thats not necessarely a bad thing since i pretty much enjoyed oblivion until the leveling system ruined it for me. The downside on this is tho that i can feel already that i get a bit bored with the game since it doesn't feel fresh enough. So many things give me oblivion flashbacks.

Some cool ideas with the environments (rivet city) but the game in general looks a bit too odd for my taste. I know its post apocalyptic and all but there is a lot that can be done with different color pallets to make parts of the map stand out more from each other. Would make the exploring more satisfying imo.

As oldschool rpg player i miss two things in the game that i alraedy missed in a couple of other new rpg's:

    Good dungeon design

Fallout 3 suffers from the same as Oblivion and Mass Effect. The dungeons are repetitive, uninspired and not challenging in their design. Personaly i prefer 10 awesome Dungeons in a game (Ultima Underworld or Arx Fatalis for example) over countless boring ones. The dungeon exploring feels just so much more rewarding when you constantly have to think how you can reach certain spots, when they are full of secret rooms and hidden stuff etc.

    Puzzles

This one bugs me even more about modern rpg's then the bad dungeon designs. I want my rpg's back where you had to solve puzzles and riddles all over the place.

20 hours in fallout 3 and i only can remember one single fucking puzzle that wasnt even hard to solve (radio signal that pointed me to a crashed alien ship).

I don't know if this is just a lack of creativity on side of the game designers or if its intentional to leave these things out (probably to make the games more accesible to retards).

Tbh I think it is to leave it to the retards wish it was just an error but the whole game screams "ULTRA NOOOB FRIENDLY" or something like "FALLOUT 3, AS IF IT WAS THE FIRST FALLOUT GAME EVVERR!111"

sadly this is also why it was a huge success. i'll bet if they remade it into the oldschool isometric style, it wouldn't sell half as well. or well, maybe it would, but some publishers are not willing to take that risk and rather want to play it safe.

ofcourse it is, it is like that with everything you sell. say even a washing machine, if it's noob friendly it will sell more than the super good, ultra hard to use one :-|

they should have scaled the difficulty with more customization instead of just higher hit points and more damage...also so short :\
