Safari web browser

I tried it but it looked too Apple , I had no problems with the text etc but the difference with my other web browser(s) was too big.

And I will never leave my beloved Firefox!

Safari is currently the only browser that passes the Acid3 test. Opera has had some labtest that they claim passed it, but nothing official out yet.

So yes, if not faster than, it's at least about 50% better than FF2 (which only scores 54% in the acid3 test)

Negative, Safari doesn't pass the Acid3 test yet (no browser does). Safari was the closest to passing, but a few days ago the latest Opera beta out-beat Safari in Acid3 at 98% pass. Safari passes Acid2, but so does Opera and IE 8 beta (Firefox 3 is supposed to).

The only reason I have safari installed is because I need to see how web apps I develop render properly. Safari is one of the most standards compliant browsers out there, but if you have a windows machine, just stick with firefox. At least firefox knows how to send credentials to webservers that don't allow anonymous browsing (a concept Safari seems to be oblivious to...)

We just tested it today. The new webkit gets a 100%

Those issues should be, as far as I've seen and read, resolved with the updated r31356 build of webkit.

Ah, I stand corrected, the new build still has some issues, and - while being faster than the other engines (according to themselves, lol)- simply isn't fast enough yet.

Ah, Algor, I've found myself in the same position. I simply just don't like Safari, Epiphany or Konqueror (which all use webkit, or at least can be set to do so), so I'm sticking to Firefox and it's 54/100 score, and just hope it'll be better with FF3

ahmmm i'm really suprised opera isn't more popular than it is. I use firefox a lot, its installed on all of my school's computers and its a heck of a lot better than IE; I've never noticed anything in ff that would indicate it is better than opera. The only advantage to ff that i can see is the fact that it is much more popular, so more sites with forms and such support it. Quite often in opera I get warning messages that such and such page is not supported, but I've never experienced a problems beyond the warning screen, with one exception - my school's email and grade/assignment posting website will NOT let me even try to proceed. It simply gives me the warning screen and tells me to get another browser or fuck off. Not even an option to let me TRY it. I think I remember reading something somewhere about a way to have opera 'tell' websites that it is IE or whatever to let it get through, but I'm far too lazy to research anything.

Opera is in fact better, but as is with the transition from IE to FF, it's about what people are accustomed to, or what kind of layouts they like. I only switched to firefox from IE 6 because I found out I could customize it entirely, which was nice.

That said, there are obviously better and equivalent browsers, but firefox is a nice alternative. And then there is of course the popularity, as you mentioned.

The magic of Firefox is really the extensibility. It's a browser that you can mould to do whatever you want, partially due to the huge community of add-on creators. Granted, Opera comes with a lot of stuff out the box, but it also comes with a lot of stuff most people don't need. Firefox on the other hand is leaner by default, but you can almost always get it to do anything you want.

Opera is also a bit iffy in the visual department IMO. Doesn't even use your operating system's default scrollbar design for some reason.

That's pretty much why firefox is my one and only: the customizability. Greasemonkey ftw.
