@Thrik I see, then my issue is that I have a smiley face in the quote that I can't delete or even select, which should be the reason why I cannot delete the quote, if I understand correctly ? (Nevermind I finally erased it, I needed to write down some things down, then selecting all; and finally deleting)

Yeah, also refreshing the page does work too, but that's not very important, we can live with that

Out of curiosity, in the indoor area with the piano, can you jump up into the area or do you have to take the stairs?

By the way, do you want extra references if one come across one that is a good match for the one you showed in your first post?

@Minos I'm not an expert but with older machines you can make some profits, my father sold our Atari ST for twice the price he bought it. Well it was mainly because it was almost factory new, and it is useful for some musicians, but... still, wait 20 years and you could buy an Alienware with the money you'd gain!

I don't know if I have brain damages and I became really stupid, but on the mobile version, I am struggling with quotes, when I want to delete one in a reply, well I can't, and I kinda end up posting something with the wrong quote or an empty quote because I cannot delete it, but at first it worked if remember right.

To avoid this, I just used the @.. thingy but it doesn't appear all the time. Also, when I scroll up to read again posts I want to reply to, then scroll down and continue typing, weird things happen. Like letters won't appear, words and spaces dissappear when Samsung spelling corrector finish my words. (Everything's great on my laptop though, and I have a four months old galaxy s4, so I guess it isn't broken, there is a weird logic behind that I suppose? I kinda feel stupid with all that!)

I think it reflects probably as much as it should, but in your reference, the spotlights are the reason why one doesn't see too many reflections,I guess. I may be wrong though

in regard to that texture - nothing. It's literally a solid Colour with a 256X256 cubemap beside it. I can post the VMT later if you want but I think I'm being naive in thinking I can replicate the effect so simply- I'm thinking if I make it transparent with a bumpmapped yellow wall behind (trying to match the distortion) it will look better. The green needs to be closer to the reference too. It doesn't work in that shade.

You'd have to tweak that green but it isn't what matters the most :)

Do tell if that works, but to match the particular reflection could be hard though, since lighting is very different and since I fear the photograph could have tweaked the picture with polarized filter for example, to get rid of some reflections he didn't want! (did you take it?)

@Vaya it looks a lot better than what I've tried to imitate frosted glass, excepting cubemaps what have you done in your vmf?

By the way the green looks a bit too flashy compared to the reference, is it what you were going for, or is the color modified by the effect?

@LizardPL i read cs go engine cannot handle npc's reflections, so it would be logical it wouldn't cast reflections of other players?

@VIOLATION too bad, these looks good, and the GP theme is kinda unique ! :)

@leplubodeslapin I know but they send me their programs and they seem to do a lot of things.. I asked because you could have known if this is just advertising they do to attract students or if they really offer everything they say they do

well, only 10dimensions to go and we can describe the world!

@jackophant Are you advising ppeople to have the job the less demanding so as to work on the side? :)

Look at which roles exist in a typical games production.
3D Art, Environment Art, Concept Art, Technical Design, Technical Art. (for example)

Learn what it takes to work in these roles, apply and get a job. That's all there is to it.

these are mainly artistic jobs, which I guess are easier to get without a diploma, as long as you can prove you're badass at it, right?

(Don't get me wrong, it surely is harder to be a great artist than a great scientist even if the qualities required are basically the same)

NihiL yes hints are a good start, have you checked out Skybex vmf's? They are helpful to know where to place hints. I hope this will help. At least when I had this trouble it was because portals were overlooked because the compiler didn't understand what was going on there, so... finger crossed, hope it helps you :)

Oh yeah I heard about this school when someone from UTC went in my prepa for a convention of ancient students.

For now, I'm hesitating between Centrale Paris, les Mines Paris tech and l'école Nationale des Ponts et chaussées, have you had any insight about these schools?

I asked him, apparently semi-conductor in components have proprieties related to quantum physics, which are also very subtle. That and quantum computers of course, and supra conductors, which aren't in our imminent future. Your last idea is good, it could be fun to have such elements!

It could be a step to a more rich environment, because thanks to this, we could create sound, which wouldn't be scripted, many music instruments are using this kind of physics for instance.

When I'll be good enough to do so, we could team up and try this!

Thanks everyone for the insights, it gives me hope :)

@laminutederire I don't think you understood my problem? vis is compiling too fast, not too slow. It's suspiciously fast and ingame it seems like it did 'a bad job'. I didn't change much about the map at all. Don't want to sound too aggressive, it sounds like you misunderstood my issue tho!

I understood, I said that because sometimes a non-optimal optimization make the compiler to be weird and it leads to compiling too fast because it overlooks things, which it thinks they are too complicated, and optimizing can help him figure it out and it can deal with it

@jackophant it is nice since it allows people to find their way through what's best for them, but it makes it hard because you gave to learn many many things, so that you are able to redirect in everything afterwards. It has its drawbacks too

yes, it probably is the best way to do this, but if I specialize in automotive, opportunities are limited...

And thanks, I really appreciate it, I do think which path I will take but who knows :)

@leplubodeslapin thanks for your extensive reply, where are you studying by the way?

I do lack experience, this is why I asked, it has been helpful! In a few weeks I will have to choose (hopefully) which school I will attend next year, and this choice is depending on what the school can offer, this is also the reason of my enquiry, so that I have the largest amount of information :)

By the way, my physics teacher told us that quantum physics are very important in the industry (I read it is responsible for more than 75% of the gross income from science in the industry). Do you know if it has some applications in this industry? Maybe in the hardware conception?

(By the way, don't be depressed, you will certainly be paid well enough to allow you to change fields more easily ;) )

Well for now I don't know yet, but in France engineer are supposed to know a bit of everything in order to manage teams, also, you decide your final skill set the last two years, I'm hesitating between an engineer - architect degree (which would provide me a knowledge in modelling and rendering, that could be useful if I want to develop games ? ) and also with a engineer-urbanism degree which should provide me a skill set in mathematics and computational sciences.

Or I could become a trader or a physician but that would mean selling my soul

But seriously, I thought that physicians could be needed to develop PBR since the P holds for physics, and that mathematicians could be needed because of the expensive cost of ray tracing which they could maybe reduce using mathematics' magic, was I wrong?

Hi! It seemed more appropriate to ask this here. Since I am in the path to become an engineer, I wondered what the gaming industry has to offer for scientists, in order to know if I'd have something there for my future :)

There should be a need with the rise of PBR, right?

It makes me think about the ability I used the most in dishonored. Maybe it was their inspiration? However in the demo ammo and energy were unlimited, maybe it will cost enough energy so that one would have to use very wisely, making it not that much OP?

It's another tool in the toolbelt but I really like it. You can download a 30 day trial from their site :)

Does your toolbelt feature Bitmap2material 3? If so, is it as useful as it seems? (Not much time to test it well before it isn't on sale anymore, So I ask)

Your album is particularly helpful to see how things have changed, how it can evolve to grow towards something visually different with a similar layout. I foresee a great map, as well as a potential interesting article about the process leading to it! :)

    @NihiL

Check those func_detail then :) func_detail are very powerful you know, many times have I gained 5 or 10 minutes of compiling just by func_detailling some stairs I forgot about :)

however, are fps drops only appearing near these particular brushes?
