what's the drawback of having the live account connected?

I've had mine connected for my Win8.1 installs across multiple devices. Tbh, it hasn't really meant much other than consistent theme colours and background as I don't use the windows store to have the app synchronisation, lol. I did a custom install to ensure that M$ weren't going to get their hands on anything I wasn't ok with.

if I'm not mistaken, the relevant drawback is that if you log on with the live account, you have to log on every time you use your computer. If you don't want to have any password then you're screwed :)

Quite a few big changes since last time I posted. Been pulling things a bit closer to the real life boat and removing some of the more "gamey" elements of the map. In the process I also recruited the help of Yanzl to help out with the art.

Biggest change has been the T spawn area. Visually it looks much more like its real world counterpart with minimal gameplay impact

    [Blocked Image: http://i.imgur.com/pgWJPAm.png]

I also finally got round to working on some of the interior sections. This bar area has been annoying be for ages so I decided to have a proper crack at it. Spec maps are doing strange things in the image so don't pay attention to them.

    [Blocked Image: http://i.imgur.com/S2gYGk1.png]

And some updates to other areas

    [Blocked Image: http://i.imgur.com/Yytgnkf.png]

The arcade area has been totally ripped out and is next on my list to work on. Once that's done, It should be quick progress to getting a closed release build.

And as always, more images in the albums http://skybex.imgur.com/

blackdog I tried to compile on my other machine, but steam doesnt allow you to have the same game open on 2 different computers. And this includes CSGO SDK so I would have to get a new account and csgo to compile on one machine while working on the other. Not something that's hard to do, but I didn't really bother yet as overnight compiles are fine.

    Display More

first of, it looks amazing, and we are all impatient to play it I think

Secondly, have you tried a third party compiler like Compile Pal? I think this could work to compile on one computer and using hammer on the other!

@ruarai I don't know if this has been talked about in the last, but since it does not pack model materials, one must pack them themselves. The issue I had was that: the nav file was packed during the compilation, and it is known that the nav file shouldn't be embedded with Pakrat, so I took it out, and it fucked everything. So I don't know how you pack it, but when you pack the nav file, game do not crash at all, so until everything isn't packed with the compiler, it is important to know that the nav file should be packed in the BSP and it does not causes any issues.

I don't know if I'm clear, but I wanted to share my experience for others to not lose as much time as I did figuring it out!

(It works great by the way :) )

I bought an Asus ROG laptop

I have some friends that built workstations themselves tho, they were early adopters and don't remember them complaining. I'll try asking.

Mine is a two years old hp laptop, so there is an addendum from hp which is not updated by them since a long time ago, which explains the numerous interferences with W8 I guess. And for now people I've met with issues with W8 have something similar, which helps defining what is wrong with it.

Yeah but Win 8 is fuckload faster to boot.

Also, this is the first time I read that Win 8 is an unstable system, it never crashed on me in 8 months, never read anything about that before.

I got the proposed update, haven't done it because I want to read some reviews first, if it fucks up games and tools or not.

I am a bit curious, have you built your computer then install W8 on it, or was it a computer by a manufacturer like hp or Toshiba or dell, acer etc?

Win 7 will probably be replaced in a few years by W10, if it proves to be as stable.

But the question is mainly a concern for W8 users, who were unhappy for some of them. W8 seems unforgiving, careful and competent people like @jackophant have all their W8 computer running smoothly, but some other like me had trouble at least once a week.

@Symix was it as smooth as advertised? They were assuring that the upgrade would be easy and so on, so I wanted to know. I would have done it myself, but my computer does not allow me to do it yet, so I'm waiting.

Personally windows doesn't propose me the upgrade yet, I don't know about you!

@tomm , you'd want to upgrade if it proves to be more stable than W8.1 . I often discussed with friends about it, and it appears half of us are having trouble with system stability, for my part updates often fuck up my computer. Others do not have any trouble, probably like you.

Ultimately you know that you gain a few more years of microsoft support, which isn't that bad if you like to keep your computer for quite some time :)

@'RZL, just wanted to say kudos on the drive, it is well organized, which is handy considering the number of files there is on it :) thanks in order !

  • What do you think about the new look?

    • laminutederire
    • July 29, 2015 at 12:52 PM

This new software dislikes typing prediction and correction. The @functionality isn't working when prediction arrives, and it arrives fast when you use it with the same person a few times. That's a shame, but quotes are working, that's what really important in my opinion.

What Jackophant maybe wanted to say that a part of the community isn't very active, especially with the contest going on. Meaning that as one of the few giving feedback about almost everything on the contest, (these few people are mainly people who were there before the contest) he may feel like his movement to help other isn't as followed as it should, and that vivifying the community could reasonably be a good thing, and what he proposed was one way to do it, and surely not the only one.

That being said, I may have misinterpreted what he was saying, but it could be a base idea for the future of the community.

I will try it. I asked because the sooner the better. Your map looks solid, so you won't get trashed like I did yesterday, but you'll find that they will exploit what is wrong with your map, for example flanking will be game breaking if it is possible. That way you have a valuable idea of what to change, and what's good :)

Just now, I used the download link you provided for your submission.

I used VIDE to pack textures, could that be the cause?

edit:I figured why the radar doesn't work, missing textures may be caused by that too. When downloading from the google drive, the file was renamed to something else, because of the name of a previous version. Now, I renamed the whole thing so that when you download it doesn't rename the file, and it should work.

(In addition, leplubodeslapin checked the file itself, and it worked.)

when did you download the map? I updated the file on the drive at 21:32 because the previous version had the particular issue you pointed out, which could explain why models are black.

@'RZL I'll post the link to the nav mesh tomorrow afternoon, in case I succeed in finishing an update, which will require a new nav mesh. This time everything seems to be packed properly, I renamed all materials and model directories, and map launched with all textures without issues. I updated the bsp on the drive with the last version, where everything is there (the previous version still lacked some textures), do tell me if there is still an issue.

Thank you in advance, and hopefully I'll see you, without any issues, during the playtest!

I personally think it is caused by the second warning, do what it says, recompile your model, adding the command it tells you to add in the qc file, and try again.

Or if you are more lazy, delete every instances of this model, compile, see if the issue is still happening. If not, I'm pretty positive that what I said above will fix the map. Otherwise correct things for the first warning, and see if it is working. If none of these two fix the map, then there is something else, but that's a good start to look for the source of the issue.

In general, warnings are there to tell you that even if it can compile, there may be some errors. For ecample, when missing textures warnings appear you have black faces, or when there is a portalside error, it almost everytime causes glitches.

Same way you use lamps at overpass long, doesn't really serve much purpose really. I'll either add some cloths hanging from the top or remove it completely.

It's just that right now it does not block neither bullets nor visibility. The cloth idea would make it a real cover though :)

I can't even find the old textures, folder deleted. But I guess I could just recreate the folder, copy the textures in and do what you say. Maybe that would fix it.

Yeah I guess I can forget about it, but I'm a bit afraid of getting some other problem because of this down the line. Experience as a programmer speaking there

otherwise you can check for problems (alt+ p if I remember correctly, otherwise it is located next to pointfile and portalfile)

that way, by double clicking on the material issue, it is supposed to show you what one of the faces the material is applied, you can replace it directly like that.

What bothers me is that we don't have any news from them and it's been 4 years since (the very good) Portal 2, HL3 or not they should release one game. And i don't see 2D/3D artists, level designers and writers suddenly working on VR and Steam marketing, it's simply not their job so they must work on some kind of game.

i think they may be working more in porting cs go to source 2 than developing a new game entirely. It is a great success for them, and I think they want to keep it evolving, before doing something new. Why? Mostly my guts telling me so, but it makes sense for them to do that, and if they do that, it should be one of their priority.

About Half-Life 3, if it is meant to happen, it will. How many books were discarded, or seriously delayed because they didn't feel right at the moment? (I don't know the exact answer but a lot of them) Often it is caused, as @Sprony said, by perfectionism. Nonetheless, there are other variables, they might have started something they really didn't like at the end, because their perspective have changed since the beginning, sometimes the world just isn't ready yet for the book, or even It may be forgotten, because the creative frenzy need to be on another project. Always the writer has a say, long before it can be discarded by publishers, for they don't see any money in it.

Thenceforth, no argumentation we can give will be relevant, because we are not the one supposed to birth this project.

At least, that's what I believe is right.

(PS on a side note, the longer they wait, the less relevant the dissapointment card is legit, because there are now more and more gamers, like myself who didn't feel the entire power of this series, simply because when it came out, we weren't nearly old enough to play them at the time. We can just "intellectualize" its impact, with our critical judgment, but there is much less sentimentality in our minds)
