I haven't heard of nuclear races before, but they look like a solid group. I did a similar one called dirty dozen and it was brutal.

This was at about 11k of 12 and it's the face of a broken man...

I've been away from my map for too long, a mixture of things, but mainly living arrangements and moving. But ever since I was happy with the game play a lot of my interest has dropped in this map

How can I get that spark back? I was thinking... would sketching over screenshots work well?

I really want to get this finished, but I think I might just be being too precious with it...

Yeah, i didn't get the name, or a feel for where it was based. Had some crazy boost spots.

Personally I miss de_prodigy, but it's probably nostalgia!

Don't underestimate the importance of good lighting. You could tweak the lighting values in seconds, and in one render the map would already look better. Lighting sets a mood and right now it is comparable to an operating theatre. I would suggest finding the lighting values for de_inferno as a starting point.

Since you got here you've been nothing but defensive and cagey. You post your map here looking for help and then don't accept it. This community is full of industry professionals, and even if they aren't the ones replying, there are people here who have been exposed to much higher level of mapping and can see how yours doesn't match up.

We can tell the map is WIP, why else would you bloody post it here? We don't have much to go on, your design across the map is consistent (but obviously WIP) so lighting is the most obvious thing to pick on, apart from adding displacements and foliage.

I don't think the name "estate" makes sense. Personally, this cries out to me as an inner area of a castle, almost something you would find in the witcher. To me it looks more like a fortified town and would make sense named that way.

However, San-Marino as a theme works, but calling it such is very... all encompassing. You should try and find some more history of the area and name it a smaller area, or after an element of your map, something more abstract (just not estate).

It would be similarly as bad to call a map "London", "Spain" or "Australia". People should rightfully expect a level of realism that you promise with such a name.

Perhaps even maybe de_marinus after the founder "Saint Marinus" of San Marino

The name could be a little confusing as it's similar to "marina" which is generally related to water, but this is my suggestion anyway.

Feels a bit like a model town. Can I suggest tweaking your lighting in the way of:

    • making it less bright
    • making the shadows a little more diffuse
    • maybe tinging the environment light to be a little more yellow
    • give the sun some angle, the shadows are very blocky

Also, dirty it up a bit! Throw some decals in, it looks ways too clean and flat at the moment.

I don't have much to say on the gameplay and balance, as I don't think CSGO is a fast paced enough game for CTF to work, but this can be a good opportunity to fine tune your mapping.

Oh, and I've already started working on my own ctf_donner now, thanks for the idea

Just moved house myself, will be without TV and internet until next weekend

Luckily my parents place isn't too far away so I'll pop at theirs to make sure I can join in.

I've sent the invite to my brother as well, and I have no idea if he'll take part. He's a bit like a leaf in the wind.

It looks like they are trying to take the essence of defuse maps and instill them in the hostage game mode. Makes sense to me if that's how it's happened.

Following from that predictability would make sense. BUT the hostage maps are in much smaller proximity in their current state. And had originally been designed for different hostage mode entirely, so they've had to retroactively apply this new style which has it's own problems.

I'd then suggest going forward to separate the hostages more like bomb sites, but that's unrealistic and dangerously close to becoming a slight variation on a normal defuse mode.

I like the randomness, although I completely agree that esports do need that predictability.

There are a lot of things wrong with it. I would start by removing random hostage spawns and keeping the positions they know to work well for tactical gameplay. At the very least, removing the ones they know are terrible.

Also, the economy needs to be re-balanced.

The hostage spawns are only random at the beginning of the game, the 2 of 4 places they spawn in are fixed for both sides. I don't think it's a major balance issue. It just offer variety of game play not too dissimilar to Ts planting the bomb at different points to allow for different defensive styles.

I haven't noticed too much of an issue with economy personally, but seeing as the T economy has been tailored for an attacking role, something might need to be looked into.

    Quote from text_fish

I saw a great suggestion on Reddit a while ago, which was to remove the warning Terrorists receive when a hostage is being taken. It would definitely encourage T's to be a bit more tactical in their defense.

This is a fantastic idea. The number of times I've seen Ts play super aggressive to suddenly back pedal when a hostage has been taken is far too often. That said, when Ts really box themselves in, it's a lot harder for them. A slightly organised CT team can breach at multiple points on one hostage area and the Ts are spread too thin to defend themselves.

I definitely like it as an idea. Would be good to see some mix up, but de_ is the bread and butter of cs, people don't care enough for cs_ imo. It's taken enough for people to get used to new maps, you'd think you were breaking their game or something.

as_ are the VIP maps, probably short for assassinate, or at least some variation of the word. the VIP maps made 1 of the CTs a VIP, with only a USP and 200 armour. You had to extract the VIP to a helicopter to win

Any present/past views of the 2003 Battlestar Galactica series? I have to say I'm loving it just finished season 2 and it's a juicy cliff hanger! I have no one to talk to about it. My inner nerd is feeling restrained!
