    I've set up an event on Sunday 15 March 2015 @ 17:00GMT

It's an awkward time and I expect people will dip in and out according to meal times and map test.

I'll start with a team of 5, but if we have more people we can organise into more teams of 5. Depending on retention rates and results we can shuffle the teams around so as to keep the skill levels as even as possible as well.

While I am not explicitly ruling out non-EU mapcorians from joining us, due to ping constraints, EU members will take precedence! No hard feelings guys, but someone with a ping of 400 isn't going to have fun and neither is the team who is essentially a man down.

I'll update with TS3 info nearer the time but if I forget to, please just message me for it on the day

    See you there!

This is starting to shape up quite nicely, is there any specific reason that you haven't released any overview pics yet?

he mentioned that it's being made in separate files he copy pastes together

I'll try these, but currently I got a connection with an average 400 ms ping so it is nearly impossible to play at all online.

However in such leagues, how do you do when you don't know anyone and you don't know if you suck or not?

They all have stat tracking and/or ranks, which are necessary for effective match making and progress tracking anyway.

That and I'm sure the community is toxic enough to let you know how they feel about your skill anyway mid game

Isn't having fun the purpose of casual games?

You have at least the chance to be a good player..

The current state of casual competitive is cancerous. It is not even comparable to a proper 5v5 game, the number of times I've watched T's lose to CT because 5 of them are frag hunting the last guy when they could have just planted the bomb makes my heart hurt. It is not a good environment to play in. You're better off using one of these 3rd party leagues such as (in no particular order):

    • ESEA
    • AltPUG
    • Faceit
    • GameFace
    • ESL
    • UNGL
  • Counter-Strike: Global Offensive

And what are smurfs by the way?

Someone who has an account with a purposely lower rank than their true skill. A pretty divisive topic, and normally a bad thing.

For instance I have "alternate accounts" with lower ranks, but that is a consequence of playing with primarily lower ranked people. I have friends who are too low for me to queue with (without the lobby being full) so I'm not going to just not play with my friends because of valve's poorly implemented anti-smurf system.

On a side note, I have never purposely down ranked an account. True smurfs in my opinion downrank accounts just to smash low ranks for fun.

I think Siberia V2s are one of, if not the most overrated, over priced headset going.

That said, I hope you feel a difference as well. It'd be good to know what you think when you get them

faceit is a 3rd party league like ESEA or CEVO.

It has it's own match making system, ranking etc, and additionally has prizes available based on points gained from playing matches with them. It of course also has a subscription model if you're really into it, but you don't have to pay a thing!

They also have a good twitch channel where they cast important matches with the lovable duo, JZFB and DDK

Just bought the V2. ebuyer saying the 18th for delivery? :S they're normally next day even if you go for supersaver though so not too bothered.

ebuyer are next day? That's news to me! I usually go with AriaPC when I can for their DPD partnership (the valve of deliveries afaic)

Which colour combo did you go for? I've got my eye on gunmetal (my current pair are white)

ESEA is the shit. I've been playing it for a couple weeks and it's a lot more fun than valve MM for some reason. I'm challenged but it's a fair challenge. I can soloqueue and get a proper team every time.

FaceIt is junk. 50-60% of players are toxic silvers that are using faceit for their cooldowns it seems.

the trick is to play with a reliable group of people. imo it's better in the long run anyway as you learn how each other work. ive not done much with esea, but i have no problem with faceit (again, probably because of large groups)

my housing situation is still a pain so im not on my computer, but i swear to <god of choice> this sunday i will be at home and on all evening on my computer if people want to join me, in fact! im going to make an event!

As you can see, my money is on CLG, lol. Not impressed by HR recently, and I think keyd/kabuum are too much of a wildcard for my liking

I wish all the teams well, but I don't understand how people can choose a team to support. I'm indifferent to all apart from disliking IBP lol

Of all the earphones in the world you're buying the apple earbuds? You really think they're worth it?

*side note* why don't inline mic/button systems work on android? that always annoys me -_-

Ehs, no I know they are nothing special... paid them about 9£, thought was a deal (on Apple Store they are 25!).

It's just that it was a last minute addition. I didn't want to spend loads on earbuds, bought them mainly because I might put my iPhone on sale on Amazon, if I find another with a more pristine frame (haven't yet).

Suggestion for some decent over-ear portable headphones? And since we are at it, what for gaming?

Fair enough! I wasn't trying to talk down or anything, was just curious.

I helped my fiancee buy a good pair of music cans recently, Sony MDR-1A which I think are a nice balance of quality and price.

For gaming I use the Kingston HyperX Cloud v1, but I find the headband a little sore on my big noggin and requiring a little adjustment occasionally, so I'm looking to upgrade to v2 (which is also USB, big bonus!) for the extra padding. Other than that slight gripe they're fantastic, best headset I've used yet.

This is the Cloud 2 (v2) and all it's gear. I love how it allows for mobile as well as aeroplane connections!

I've been totally hooked on community, absolutely love the troy/abed combo

Binged on some movies on a long flight, in the mix was John Wick which I finally caught up on and I thought it was really well made. I also loved the fact that he would go for the headshots so often, actually KILL people, not shoot them in the leg and run off, as well as cars falling off tall things don't blow up, and just hit the ground and smash up.

Been watching some Penny Dreadful as well, a little cheesy and NFI what is going on, but it's retained my interest for now

I'm not sure that their relationship with Cyanogen is definitely done, i've heard that it was maybe a mistake.

The phone is perfect (for now, 0 problem), but that's also because i used to have a Galaxy S1 that a friend lent me. It was running on Android 4.4.4 but it was lagging a lot, at the end of its life :(

Cynogenmod broke their exclusivity contract with oneplus and jumped into bed with some Indian manufacturer which is a huge market and would have been very lucrative for them. Indian government then intervened in it all and then cyanogen lost out both ways, oops! Silly them!

I hacked my S1 as well, I was in the process of partitioning some linux swap to alleviate a few of the issues arising from only having 315MB RAM available. Gave up and bought MOTO E, loved it, broke it (sad face) and then bought Nexus 6, lol. Either way, for a 1st generation 1GHz smart phone, that thing has lasted so well!

    EDIT: viva la 1+1
