    Looking cool.

    Really?

You should get this playtested asap. You're at a good stage to make the most effective changes as easily as possible so make sure you capitalise on that.

I've watched 16 episodes of that Gotham show in the last 2 days. Not sure why as it's not exactly amazing.

Why are all shows taking queues from Game of Thrones by the way? Woman in the last episode scooped out her own eye with a spoon...

you should be watching Battlestar Galactica :P

Watched a couple of Netflix randoms the other day:

Appleseed Alpha was a pretty cool animation, if not slightly readable. There may be more to it that I don't know about, but it's a universe I'd like to see more from.

And I watched Horns, starring Daniel Radcliffe (good) with an American accent (bad). Really fucking weird film, full of weird twists and turns. Had a permanent screw face for most of it, but I would say that I enjoyed it. Just can't think of anything out there really like it.

As long as you know ISIS is financed in part by the west. I wish I was kidding.

ofc, just like the Taliban were (are?). War is good business.

What is government if not riddled with hypocrisy?

I think we can blame a sensationalist media as well. Newspapers in England typically associated with the whole idea that England as a country would flip on it's axis due to the sheer weight of the immigrants landing on our borders have now suddenly all this compassion. They spin whatever sells, and anti-immigration is flavour of the decade.

In a world where we could do so much to help all around us, we are increasingly looking inwards and closing ourselves off to the world. Sad times are ahead, let's hope we can ride them out before we let ISIS take over the world.

The UK is so closed to migration it's unreal. It's toxic and I despise it.

However, while I don't condone the way Europe as a whole are handling the situation, more needs to be done to stabilise the regions people are coming from as a long term goal. Relocating entire countries isn't sustainable.

Happy, safe people don't want to leave their homes or countries.

I forgot to mention this earlier: I have no idea why that is the case. There are no hostage entities around, and yet the anarchists talk about hostages anyway. No other T team seems to do that, but they do. If anyone knows why that happens or how to solve it, please let me know!

    Quote from Vaya

you might be able to specify in the kv file what voices you want to use.

As far as I'm aware, the voice the character uses is linked to their model and I don't think it can changed with a kv file.

The anarchists talk about hostages because they were designed for hostage maps. A slight oversight from valve imo, as it would have been nice for all the factions to be fully interchangeable. Whether they should have recorded the sound bytes to be game mode neutral, or a range of extra lines to be game mode sensitive.

You could take a custom approach perhaps? Create a "new" faction and "new" voices, when in actuality you've just taken valve's own files and recombined them under a slightly different name. You could then pack them into your bsp which will increase the size and be forcing people to download assets already available.

If you're going to be posting like this about the map, it might be worth asking a benevolent @Sprony to move this thread to the 3D section.

  • Am_Crossfire and Am_subway (1v1)

    • September 2, 2015 at 10:37 AM

The problem with crossfire is that from spawn, there are a couple of places to run to, to see someone. If someone then runs the other way it's going to be a mission to find them again or just a big game of cat and mouse. With smaller cover, you can duck and dive between it and bait people out which is much more interesting. Your cover may have been cluttered, but there's simplifying it and unifying it into one big concrete block.

Because subways are underground, they have to be well lit. Don't limit your entire map because of a prop. You could use concrete supports for the frame to stick out of, or use brush based beams. That doesn't look like you can make a full jump. Connecting tunnels might be tight, but platforms are relatively spacious, if for no other reason than air pressure from the train flying down the tunnel.

For something inspired like the subway map, you should really learn to work from references rather than your own mental picture of what a subway station looks like. They'll also be different for different regions. London Underground looks very different to the New York Subway for instance.

Crossfire looks far too simple to be interesting to play in a small arena setting. A variety of generally smaller cover makes better 1v1.

Subway is way too dark and the ceiling is very low. It's use of cover is much better, but the map also looks too big for 1v1.

Please, for the love of god turn off your net_graph, view model, and hud in future screenshots. It looks really lazy and is incredibly easy to change.

    Greetings all,

As we will be unable to submit Strada for the competition in a complete enough state we are officially withdrawing. The map will still be completed, but outside the scope of the contest.

Good luck to the rest of the participants, and may Hurg smile upon you all.

Not sure why you're asking for feedback on a work release, but outside looks too dark and the inside lighting is very flat and boring.

Outside seems to have some character, but inside is very stark and empty, not "clean" as you would suggest. It could do with a few more textures in the form of wall trim and skirting imo.

Do you have any idea how it plays?

Looks great! I hope it plays as good as it looks.

Other than that I feel uncomfortable about making any comment on potential gameplay issues knowing that you've based it (very convincingly) on a real life location.

The props you've made work really nicely, and kudos for the documentation. People should take note!

I'm trying a test group for mapcore submissions atm, might make things a little sleeker and less "downloading on the day" sort of thing. I can't seem to be able to add additional contributors, so I'll see if I can hand it over to RZL at some point. In the mean time...

    Please don't make anything up.

When you say "Mediterranean" town, I'm hoping you don't mean inferno. You must have looked at locations for reference. Work on that basis if anything.

But in all honesty, your use of the name arcade is absolutely fine. It's where an "amusement arcade" gets it's name from, so it's just a victim of it's own popularity.

I think the name is fine, but you will have a lot of "where are the arcade machine" questions, so only change it if that bothers you

EDIT: there may be competition issues with the inferno bell tower construction being ripped straight out of the map as the majority of it is brush work not a model. Worth checking on though.
