I loved lost vikings back in the day and it seems to work on win7 64bit when i tried it yesterday. So yeah, they do work on more modern systems.

Yes - but the displacements don't like decals near them.

Started playing competitive again recently. Got ranked as AK1 at first, but I've been trying to improve and climbed to AK2 and then AK elite! Just got DMG (Distinguished Master Guardian)! Yay!

Now I just have to stop sucking at the game, lmao.

Just wait for spot to a random mm team where there are 4 russians who don't speak english (but they cant stop speaking russian even when dead), they play solo each everyone of them and see how your rank goes down

I'll never get to DMG.. so close so many times.

    Hey ICS,

Glad to see you here on the core. Haven't seen on GB for a long time.

To OP: what ICS mentioned is true.

Thanks, i really don't go to GB that much these days, it's really went into more confusing and driving me away.

As for topic, Squad said it the best, the stuff that comes out from your mind is basically what you own. A good example of this from the past years is de_cpl_mill, which then was changed to de_tuscan by other league since CPL claimed to have the copyright on it. The map of course uses different textures and theme but it is also changed a bit, though quite like the original.

So basically you could take dust2's layout and use it like will2k did with his map but it's still different. In games such as counter-strike, map is a map and you rarely see someone taking someone elses work and do an edit with it. Change it and release as his own. There has been cases such as this.

Even i have been target in one case (imagine that). My old CS Source map was taken and ported to CSGO without my permission too. I kindly asked the server owner to take it off and he did so, because he respected my rights to that map. Though it was as ugly as CSS and textures & models were Valve property but the layout was still the same, the one that came out from my head.

Generally if you do stuff for free and others to enjoy like i do, things like this are insignificant but if you do it for a commercial game and someone takes that off from there, that is a big thing.

    ** EDIT **

Also if you take material from someone elses "free" work and use it in a commercial game, that is a thing too. For the worst.

Basically yesterday i released the latest and propably final version of the map, if nothing major comes up. Since my last post, i've done a quite large overhaul with the past few updates and tuned up the map as far as i can. I cannot think of anything else i should change, so i'm moving on to other projects and keep an eye if someone has something constructive to add in the future that i can make use of.

Creator owns the copyright to the design, not to the content unless it's self made. You can share the map free but not sell it. Also, if you submit it to the workshop, Valve owns basically all of it after that.

*ns2 flashbacks* I would get fired from CA so fast... You lot sitting in the kitchen being passive aggressive drinking tea while I'd stroll up to the leads asking wtf they are thinking over some random X decision. Next thing you hear is a table getting flipped and a chair flying out the window.

So.. Steve Ballmer got hired too?

In a serious note, it does starts seem to look like this is going to be one of those games joining to the flop series.

There isn't right or wrong way, there are multiple ways to setup maps and run them. If map cycles are set in gamemodes_server.txt, where the maps are listed in mapgroup(s) with the map names, such as:

    {
    "de_train" ""
    "de_dust2" ""
    ""workshop/239672577/de_crown_v2 ""

    }

It will cause issues. I know few people who setup their servers like this. I got complaints from 2 people who run servers with my workshop map, since i kept changing the name while publishing it to the workshop.

If you just run one map, like +map 239672577 in the command line, that's not an issue. Though i havent tested but i guess it would be possible to replace that "workshop/239672577/de_crown_v2" with "239672577" there and it would work? How exactly you managed those map lists?

Workshop will pack only maps *.txt, *.kv and *.dds among with .cfg if there is one. https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/CSGO_Map_Publish_Tool. But if you just take the bsp and dont know where the rest of the files are, there is an issue.

With CSGO, you cannot just take the file from workshop and pack it up as bzip2 and throw it to fast download host (sv_downloadurl). It will be missing files that come with workshop.

It is a good idea for mappers to do a separate packing for such purpose, but only when the map is done, so filename doesn't get used too early, or rename it such as FMPONE did, but that renaming should not be used with workshop.

CSGO is somewhat a bastard/experimental release for Valve games, it goes from middle and doesn't do anything 100% correctly from server admin point of view. You are either bound to use workshop or sv_downloadurl, not both. Also to mix regular maps with votes, that's also something that usually breaks things, if server tries to change to a map that is not in the cycle.

I said this already at the workshop but just incase you see this: Do not change the file name with every update! By doing this, you will screw up every server mapcycle that has this map on. Map will not change to next one, because the cycles will have wrong filename in them.

By keeping the filename the same, there will be no issues. No one will run the workshop version on a dedicated server behind sv_downloadurl anyway so it's pointless to change the filename all the time.

I'm glad to help, as i know many people really don't give much of a feedback and your map deserves some attention. Simplifying the maps routes would be a good move.

Remember that players are somewhat narrow minded and short sighted, they get easily lost and frustrated. So having them navigate too many turns and places is not a good idea. They get lost, can't find their way, they quit the map and never come back to it.

I'll look forward to see what you come up with it.

I've ran your map on my CSGO server for some time now, nearly 2 months. The addition to cover at B site was good change and i think you should not remove that T route. It leaves the other route only way to reach the bombsite at that area and CT's usually camp the mid so that no terrorists can go through without getting shot. It would be similiar like Seaside has and people hate that map for that reason. Only way to get past is with smoke if folks camp the mid. Though perhaps you should make that T route look more nicer, it's actually quite dark and dull now

I also think you should give T's a way to sneak in to the winecellar somehow instead of getting shot from above. No one really uses the winecellar route anyway on our server for this reason. Perhaps additional doorway that leads to the tunnel from the left side?

Also to make the map more simple, you maybe should remove the route from winecellar to mid above (the indoor route with stairs). I see no real use for it except T's attacking mid from the other side too. CT's can slip into it fast and to the cellar from there but no one really does that either. So removing that route might be a worth of a test.

I'd also suggest some changes to the left side of the map, the corridors can be quite a maze for some. I've edited your radar to display my proposed change on the player feedback. Changes made in orange color and the red color "box" is proposed cover spot.
