I had my first date with a girl from the dating app today. Weirdest ever.
The girl added me on the app during lunch time and she starts the conversation. After 2 messages she asks for a meeting tonight. Obviously, I agree.

So we met, the first thing she said to me was: "I broke up with my boyfriend one month ago". Ok, that gives you the atmosphere. The first impression I got was "OMG she's so empty". Then she talks about her bank job blablabla to the point that she talks about a job she could have had in Algeria. I said "cool, you could have a great weather". Here comes the big event, she says : "Oh no, i just can't. Oh yeah btw I forgot to tell you one thing, I'm racist." WTF "I can't stand muslims and arab people. My grand parents are like this, my parents too". I laughed so loud some of you may heared me, I thought about Luke' speech in the Star Wars 7 trailer. Weiiiirrddooooo. She switched on another subject and two minutes later she stands up and says :"well i'll be honest with you, You do not please me so i'm gonna leave now". AHAHAHAH So I stand up and say "Yeah ok, it's probably the best thing to do as I do have a black friend". She leaves without saying a word. That was the funny story of the day.

Tired. Tired. Tired. What a month.

We've been working on the pre production of Feral, our final year project, for about 3 months. I'm the project manager and one of the three designers. But i'm also a real tech pillar for the team, whether it be for the workflow, for perforce or UE4. No procrastination allowed ^^ I barely have enough time to do my own tasks. But the project is going really well so i'm satisfied. Good team, good people, good workers. Guys, If your studio is looking for talented interns to start in july 2016, ask me and hire them. I can't preddict how big will be the project in june but I know it will be very cool to play and to watch.
In the mean time, I'm finishing to production of ULTRAFLOW 2. I kinda drive the project too, design and manage the communication and the PR things. It's going well so far, the project is nearly finish and should be out for Christmas. We are creating a company so we can get money out of this project and guess who we will be the CEO? Me.
I'm so tired. I just want to get a real job so I can get back home after work and simply do whatever I want, like watching TV, going out, dating, playing or absolutely nothing... just like normal people. I just need to seperate my work space and my home.

I'm back to the gym btw. It feels so good, I really needed it.

ANNND I signed up on a dating app. I mean a real one, not the tinder thing. It feels kinda strange, I haven't talked much to women since I'm single but in two weeks I've talked to 24 beautiful girls... Wtf. I should have missed something irl. Didn't date one yet, but it's coming. *hope* So it takes time too. It's funny and exhausting at the same time. Sunday afternoons are the worst to manage: nobody's doing anything so everyone wants to talk. Last sunday, I managed 13 discussions at the same time from 1a.m to 2p.m. I wrote messages all day long to the point that I couldn't remember what I was talking about with who. I'm scared for today.

Hi guys, beside Ultraflow 2 by night, I'm working on my final year project with a team of 7 people by day. Just wanted to show you our first progresses. This is called Feral, it's a hunting game in which you control a wild animal that has to hunt other animals to survive. But you can also be the prey of other predators and be hunted.

I'll try to post a video of the prototype soon to show you what we've done to make you feel like a beast (and it's pretty cool ;) )

Hardcore mode? Like some levels are not difficult already

technical question: how do you decide on the amount of levels to offer? I know you are using the Unity metrics etc, but it just seems you have loooads of levels, similar to most puzzle games… and I feel that most players just can't complete the game – at least that's what happened for previous puzzle games, despite how much I was liking them (eg cut the rope that is the one I sticked to the most)

The hardcore mode will be available in the Premium version of the game. We are a company now so... you know... business.

On the first game, there were about 20% of people that finished the game (so, on a base of over 3M players, it means 600k). So it is still a lot! We received loads of emails from players who wanted to get more levels. We still have 11k players everyday nearly one year after the game's release.
But honestly, the difficulty curve of the first one is terrible, our process was shit and I'm not proud of it even if I'm happy with our results. This one is way better: we had a true worflow, a lot of levels review and ietration. It's way smoother. Forget impossible random throwing levels.

There will be 180 levels for the free version for several reasons: we had a bunch of new ideas with our new gameplay mechanics. But also, we will add few ads in this version so we want you to play and keep playing.

There's a big problem of coherence and explanations concerning time and space in the season. The black ninja arrives at Alexandria hours before the group but he left just five minutes before.

    Quote

They can also clearly hear the truck sound when they are on the road but they barely hear the gun fire coming from alexandria when they are at the store.

I can't watch the show without thinking that there's a massive problem with this.

Also, did all the characters lose they balls? I mean, where are at season 6 and we still have characters asking if they should kill or not, if they can destroy zombies or not. The best example is the black ninja: we've been waiting for him since season 1. When he arrives with a badass look and combat style, he's a coward that don't want to kill. Even Daryl! While Rick get back his balls; He, Carol and Carl are the characters that still have what it takes to survive. I sincerely keep watching this for them. Abraham is cool too but they don't use it well.

Arrrgghh some many shitty things in this show. The beginning of episode 3 is a good example. 5 minutes of "we-get-it-and-we-don't-care" things.
There are still some good things and I can't be worst than the spin-off in LA but it stay really boring most of the time with very long and empty scenes with a guy sitting and crying. I DON'T CARE WE GOT THIS FOR 5 SEASONS TIME TO CHANGE

Ok, I've been playing a bit more these days: I'm starting to get really good items, I finally understand what was the base for (empower the heroes and get more items to craft, an i right?). Ammos are difficult to find and to craft as they require lots of different assets. It's often a problem but it asks the player not to spare them. I kinda like that but it puts me in difficult positions sometime.

I still don't understand what are the beacons for.

The gme is quite awesome though. This is something for all type of players. Exploration, killing, destroying, crafting, building, team building and a bunch of systems.

I've been reading through this thread and found a ton of great advice. I just had a couple of questions for some of you who work in the industry. So I'm kind of using my free time while in school to build a portfolio (Level Design) so that when I graduate I can start applying and hopefully get something in the games industry.

Let's say you apply as a Level Designer for a company and you have no experience with how their engine/editor works (and they don't have tools out there for you to learn). What then?

I play games and unless I've actually used the game's mod tools/level editor I honestly have no idea how they are structured/how they are made. Most of my experience comes from Skyrim's Creation Engine and Source Engine. I feel like these engines are a little niche in terms of how their levels are built (because they are older engines), but I honestly have no clue. Would skill/knowledge in slightly older engines like Source/Creation transfer over easily to more modern engines? Should I use my time to work in more modern toolkits?

If you work in Level Design, what tools/programs are you using to create your levels? How would you describe your day to day tasks?

Basically I'm worried about the transfer process between modding/mapping to working in a professional environment. Would you say that creating mods/maps prepare you for a professional industry job, or is there something more that I'm missing out on? I feel like I have alot of gaps to fill. Thanks for any information and sorry if some of this is poorly worded.

Modding and mapping experiences are still strong arguments in a portfolio for some companies. It proves that you want some 'cause you took time to create this and learned by yourself, you're autonomous and you've got your workflow. Finishing a project is already better than most of people. I've seen a bunch of dudes in my school applying even without any portfolio to companies like DICE or Ubisoft just because they thought the diploma would give them a job. It's sad but true.

Concerning editors, Skyrim's editor is indeed very special but it's a requierement if you want to work at Bethesda for example. Source is good but I think it's very common to see this in people's resume. The important point is what you did with it. Is it just building? importing assets? lighting? Level design + playtest? scripting? This defines what makes you interesting in the first place; Key Words; because HR pass very quickly on resumes/portfolio. So I don't think Source is niche but I personnaly can't say how it is important in a profile. Many principles are still the same in modern engines and i'm pretty sure that you could get into one if you made it through Source. The little I know from Source has been very helpfull to me to understand other tools and to learn one way of level creation. Obviously, beeing able to use modern tools like Unreal Engine 4 or Unity is a requirement but i may be wrong. Almost everyone works with these and home-made engine are very close. So if you know one of them, it would be much more easier to move to a company who use another modern engine.

You should read this : https://migrationtest.mapcore.org/articles/inter…s-industry-r67/
Tasks and workflow depend on the company, the project and the size of the team so it's difficult to give the right proper example. Some use narration, game design, art direction, a lot of things can modify the way you work and what the studio needs from you. Older could probably talk a bit more about this than me.

To me, the most difficult things may not be about tools or workflow, but about people. It may not always be easy to join a built team. You have to learn about people, how they think, how they work, how you should interact with them etc. The is the side where you learn about the team and which role you should take in this group. It is also a real work on yourself. If you are introverted it can be really hard for you and for the team as much as if you are extroverted (exhausting for the team (can also be refreshing)). It really depends on the people you'll work on but it's really something to concider to me. After explaining my skills in an interview or something, I always try to put a bit the human side of the work on the table 'cause you're not joining a studio to make your level alone.
