  • ATX vs. ITX

I just built an ATX system, I have no idea why, to be honest. I don't do SLI, and I don't use any PCIe (except one x16) cards. I suppose we'll see how good multi-GPU gets with DX12 and Vulkan, otherwise I would think about doing an ITX build.

Hahaha, I just want a computer that just is a computer, I don't need special "gamer" stuff! Like a Mac, but with Windows and Linux.

I'm going for future-proof (usb 3.1 would be cool, but pointless lol), but I just want quite a few USB 3 ports, like 4-6 is what i'm going for because i'm a nightmare person. I need support for DDR4 3200, a 1151 socket, intel LAN (killer has no linux support ://///), and USB 3.0 and 2.0 pins. I'm maybe leaning more towards the MSI Gaming Pro (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc…N82E16813130867 ) right now, but I'm not too convinced.

I've only really looked at EVGA, MSI, and ASUS's stuff, maybe Gigabyte will have something good? I've owned two of their boards, they've worked, but the software was always a bit dodgy.

EDIT: Now I'm looking at this Gigabyte board: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc…N82E16813128841 . It seems to have everything I need, though I would want more USB because i'm a crazy person (as a side note, who designs the IO there?! everything is all over the place!)

EDIT2: Or I could go for this ASUS board and join the REPUBLIC OF GAMER'S (R)(TM)(C): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813132586 . It has more USB 2.0 due to lack of VGA+DVI (cuz it's 2016), though it looks like the USB 3.1 controller is wonky. The USB3 header is better placed for my case. Also it's much more expensive than the Gigabyte board. Maybe better quality??? Might as well just title this post "the motherboards are dreadful corner presented by party man x" I have literally been researching motherboards for days, I have a CPU arriving wednesday, and RAM today (maybe???), they're all terrible.

Alright, anyone know of a good skylake motherboard? It's like all of them are shit, most have garbage proprietary stuff, like killer ethernet or whatever, or they have shit software for sound or lights (like really, what the fuck, why would you put shitty LEDs on a motherboard?), or they waste tons of space on shit like PS/2 and VGA ports (wasn't skylake supposed to get rid of VGA?), or they just plain lack things I need.

Currently I'm looking at this asus board (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813132566 ), but it still doesn't seem especially great. Is there anything better? EVGA's looked nice, but they lack the USB 2.0 pins I needed.

@DrywallDreams I don't know if you're planning on upgrading graphics, but sit tight and wait for NVIDIA's pascal architecture to roll out. We're talking 4x more transistors over 900 series + HBM2.0. People reckon the x50 (GTX 1050?) model will be outperforming the 980 Ti

Yeah, I'm waiting for pascal and vulkan to be out before buying a gpu

(randomly disconnecting/reconnecting to the USB port, which according to google search is a pretty common problem related to the mouses' cable)

Same reason I stopped buying logitech's garbage! :P FWIW, I've owned two steelseries mice for years, both work completely fine. in about the same time, I went through 4-5 logitech mice.

I'm in the middle of upgrading my PC, I just picked up a Fractal Design Define R5, and some g-skill ram.

Maybe I'll even get the i7-6700 in the next fucking year when they are in stock

I was initially disappointed with the Link when I had tested it with my Macbook, but once I had my games PC here, I was impressed. It does 1080p/60 fps without a hitch over wifi, it's insane. Sadly they broke Steam Controller support with the latest steam betas, which keeps me from using it right now.

Understand. But I imagine they still mix people with different skill levels, wouldn't make sense to have people only level 14 together... you never have the chance to improve(?).

It's not a simple level like 14, but it's the literal elo or glicko 2 score, so it's somewhere in the thousands (for example, a player may be ranked at 3562 or something). You're not going to get an exact match, but it's more logical and doesn't need modification over time as players get better.

What's different in the ranking in DOTA?

it's expressed numerically, so there are no "skill groups" as they exist in CS.

holy shit MM is broken as fuck now. I just got out of (abandoned) a game with only new players that didn't use mics. In MGE.

Fuck it, I'm done, the game is fucking shit right now.

EDIT: to better explain: the iconographic ranking system has been broken from the start. It only serves as a status symbol if you can say "I'm global", when in reality you have only bought a flashbang once, and a smoke maybe three times. When I was in DMG, no one knew how to play sensibly, and would get angry at the mere suggestion that "rush B" wasn't a good strat. Now that Valve has tried for a third or fourth time to salvage it, it's become unplayable garbage. It mixes new players with thousand+ hour players now, it's simply not fun in the least. The ranking system was implemented as a constant, and that's a big problem. As players begin to gain more skill, the ranks make less and less sense. Because Valve failed to note the systems in place in Dota 2 (yet again), we got stuck with a broken ranking system.

I just wonder why spending so much time creating your own engine, for a game that has no special tech features, looks like they could have made this in half time with UE/Unity

This way there's not the issues of licensing, at least. Also Jon Blow seems to suffer a bit from Not Invented Here. It's fair enough, he's a great programmer.

Also consider that the game started development before Unity got big and UE4 was out, so there were no cheap engines (save for maybe Torque, but that was also real bad) out there. I'm pretty sure UE3 still had large licensing costs when you sold tons of copies, too.

The whole issue with the change is that the first shot is so bad that spraying became the main method of shooting in CS:GO. If that were better, the changes would probably feel way better. I've never quite felt comfortable with the CS:GO AK when compared with 1.6, I don't know why they would make it harder.

would have just been nice if it was a deagle skin, like an alt skin you could use

Then it's plain confusing for players finding them on the ground. Also new weapons exist to provide new functionality, otherwise it's a waste of space.

I could see the R8 working with a slower movespeed during cocking, no/near useless secondary fire, and higher spread, maybe even lower kill reward. Make it a clear risk to exchange for a gun, essentially.

Lol, reddit is complaining about the game being more "run and gun/call of duty" when complaining about rifles being harder to move and spray with. It's almost as if they have no idea what they're talking about!

tbh I'm really enjoying DM right now, it's instagib in CS:GO.

In beta, I remember Valve saying something like "we know everything is really bad right now, we're trying to reign it in," essentially that the wild swings in balance/feel were intentional, just to get everything into an ideal spot. Maybe that's what they're doing here? Everything feels weirdly experimental.
