I wouldn’t call D2 a dirty map, not in the sense of this conversation. I think what @Interfearance refers to is “grunge” maps… and frankly in the current lineup I would classify only Cache as grunge. (That’s why I’m so curious to see the reworked version).

I would say that also Subzero is a lot alike Cache, they both remind me of many 1.6 and CSS maps.

I dunno if we can say that “grunge doesn’t render well in Source Engine”, or if is a matter of how the artist puts together the map.

I don’t think grungy maps look bad per-se, more like: the amount of detail (noise) makes them age badly and they become “boring” much quicker.

I dunno if this has intrinsic ties to the engine… I could only think that some problems would be imposed by texture size and the anti aliasing available.

i think Source can do “dirt” well, I don’t remember ever feeling less immersed in Day of Defeat Source because of the graphics.

There's something about the Source engine which is so great. The lighting and texture work on De_Nuke is some of the best I've ever seen. It's just so nice. Is it Source's lighting that makes it so nice? Would love to know if there's been any 'making of' videos, articles etc, on that map re-work.

There’s less info than the link above on here, but still some nuke info

  • Ryse - A not-so-exclusive XBOX One title by Crytek

Wow, I’ve reinstalled Ryse since I have a clean Steam installation after swapping the drives in my laptop with two SSDs I got on Prime Day.

This game still rocks for nowadays standards imo. I know (ex)Crytek people disavowed it but I say hats off for creating something visually so long lasting.

I think it’s the most cinematic game I’ve played, and I’m quite enjoying it this time around. It’s a perfect brain dead game to play after a stressful day, topped up by trying to get a baby to sleep for one hour and a half.

I’m still a bit annoyed by the control scheme, wish was remappable… but I’m doing better, I guess because I haven’t played Batman in a while (although muscle memory still comes back).

I feel like some of the criticisms brought up in the last few posts are things that have been pretty much a trademark of Remedy, especially from Alan Wake and the Quantum Break. I’ve said many times: the writing is in many occasions too self-referential to be funny and weighs down the game.

I was concerned about the “games” systems @Puddy mentions…

Anyway will still play it at some point, if anything it’s at least incredibly beautiful and can only serve as inspiration of how trippy you can get.

I dunno, enjoy it more? We're trying competitive because casual has way too many people, but it's putting us up against people that can 360 noscope you as soon as you go round a corner. I know the maps and chokepoints well, but I just don't understand how you can beat these people? Also the matchmaking is taking like 6 mins each time... And people complain about a 20 sec wait on PUBG lol.

Any good vids online to learn how to git gud? For example I'm not really sure how I should be spraying either. The gunplay feels really weird in this game coming from PUBG which has really awesome feeling, controllable, realistic weapon recoil.

Oh boy, dunno why it still appeals @PogoP... but in multiplayer i hardly even want to play anything else. It's prob the familiarity, in conjunction to the never ending challenge of people being better than you, and learning new tricks thanks to the pros.

Since you haven't played in ages, you must have been de-ranked so you should be playing with lower level players... whom are most known to cheat. Literally clear as day so many times, I have an overwatch clip where a wall hacker spots an aim bot and tries to avoid 1-on-1 engagement. So don't get discouraged, grind a bit and you should be out of silver. If you want to rank quicker create a new account, when I created my second account I ranked higher than my main one, in a fraction of the time.

In terms of channels to follow I suggest:

    • Elmapuddy for in-depth analysis on particular strat's pro teams execute, or particular play styles of single players (eg how Magisk holds Inferno Pit)
    • Nadeking for all kind of grenade lineups, wallbangs, cheeky angles to hold)
    • Warowl for gun control and the "academy" videos
    • Generally search for 200iq plays, it will give you many ideas
    • Watch Virre's highlight compilations if you want to get hyped

And watch pro matches. Fun way to learn callouts and see the best spots to plant the bomb, and how to defend it.

If you don't like the AK (WHAT!!!) you can try the Aug and Sig/Krieg, they became very popular after the update that made them cheaper, now they are back up but they have become meta.

SMG: Don't buy the p90 or bison, UMP should still be the best value for money, but I often pick the Steyr or Mac 10... SMG have a very weird potential when jumping around corners. (As seen on Warowl).

As a CT don't buy helmet on T gun rounds because of the headshot potential.

You can download many training maps to practice aim and spray, other script the most common spots so you learn the best sequence to clear an area and where to prefire.

I would recommend to play some wing man because imo helps a lot in learning how to clutch.

Learn how to play behind and around the smoke, it's possible to block players pushing common spots (say forklift in Cache) and because you are outside the smoke you will see them and they won't see you.

    Don't be a loser, buy a defuser + pros don't fake :D

    GLHF! ✌

PS these are my own favourite "smoke genie" plays

Afaik they developed GO with the feedback of the pros, so I would say they do care. The pro scene has blown up big time since GO’s first release, and with CS being one of the top competitive games I’m sure they don’t want to mess up and cause a major disruption such as learning new nades.

They always talked about the modularity of the engine, so maybe they could transition rendering without changing the physics(?)

Just because the engine has the capability, doesn’t mean you need to use it. CS:S had “realistic” physics objects and they ditched it for the competitive scene.

Next we see if Astralis still can be Liquid's kryptonite, or Liquid will solidify beyond every doubt their status of #1.

Edit: feels good to be right, I did speculate in a comment to one of Thoorin’s videos, that Astralis would be studying Vertigo and come back thanks to that, and in fact they kicked their asses.

Was pretty hyped about a new playthrough but I must say this video was underwhelming at best: they teased many aspects but really shown anything. Was expecting something like the 45min unveil, with at least part of a mission shown “completely” (with cuts a-la “in the interest of time”) but its just a bunch of clips that feel quite disconnected.

Not bashing the game, just the presentation that in this case was quite lacking for me.

Still probably the first game I’ll buy on GOG if my PC can run it.
