The vikings are pretty much unanimously the bad guys in any story that isnt by the vikings, they had no mercy (and definitely would not have spared the mother and children like he did in the trailer), slaughtered and destroyed anything and everything and would go back on their word in just about every instance.

They are invading England here, its not exactly a great time to live there but the vikings are definitely the more oppressive force. They are invading and slaughtering peasants and the king seems to be fighting a losing battle, yet the protagonist is on the vikings side? It would make way more sense if the Assassin was English. From what I understand about AC is that the main protagonist is living through lives of his ancestors. Of course the sheer diversity in his lineage is a little out there, but I somehow doubt a viking came in to play. They were pretty hegemonic until they started pillaging other lands. Given that other games list Ancestors who seem more pure English it would make more sense for the Assassin to be English in this time

Yeah when i saw the king signing the letter, I was honestly feeling surprised as they made it look like he was calling for some Assassin's help to kill the Viking leaders and stop the invasion.

I have no knowledge of this part of History so have no insight on what could happen... maybe it can be a setup like Hitman Blood Money, where the Vikings incorporate some Assassin's and the Brits will have the player going against that, but I think is unlikely as there was so much focus on building this badass viking character. Also what would be the point of having it set in this era if the player doesn't get to play with the Viking outfits and weapons.

I dunno if the storyline make sense at all, I only played the original game and only watched some sort of "recap". My understanding was that the first 3 games were about Desmond going through his lineage... I assume the other entries were "spin-offs" in the sense that they take you into other families' lineage. I haven't seen/heard of Abstergo since AC3 and not even sure they feature contemporary sequences anymore?

    ~

For someone that didn't like the original AC, I still redeemed the games when they came up free on Uplay :D

I was still planning on playing Black Flag because is the first one that showed something a bit different... and since what you say @DMU222 I guess I might try Syndicate (which I have thanks to Epic Store)

This is an interesting idea. Would it be on already established maps then?

In general though I think we are more interested in stuff that is not 5v5 Bomb Defusal maps. 1v1, 2v2, 3v3 etc Surf Death Run

Thanks @ErikFnatic (you can tag users with the @ like on Twitter ;) )

On the Wingman mode, I personally have no particular problems with the classic map adaptations, but as highlighted by @Roald they are not well received. Casual play aside, for what concerns community level designers, using the default maps would be of no use: the community needs a spotlight on the quality content it's being produced. There are plenty of Wingman submissions already on the Workshop... but there's no much incentive in producing them because atm Valve won't rotate community maps in the game like has happened with 5v5 maps.

So one way to go would be to sponsor a Wingman contest, thanks to the Fnatic brand it could turn some heads and have Valve show some more love for this mode.

We also have a couple designers around here that worked on Danger Zone maps, these are big undertakings to make, but a big contest like the one that was just held for the 5v5 could again attract many people to work on original content... and for this Valve has already welcomed some custom content. Dunno if your players (or any other pro) enjoy the Battle Royale mode.

Something I would like to see in the pro-scene is Wingman mode being embraced. You are already doing some 1-on-1, so it would be nice to see that mode get legitimisation with pro-players playing a small side-tournament.

~ so @Roald how is this experience going? Are you guys leading for the updates on your map or you get requests from Valve too?

Wondering how hard it is to maintain a live map whilst your day job ticks.

Completed the story bits of South Park The Fractured But Whole with my partner. Didn't somewhat feel as good as The Stick of Truth, despite I like the superhero theme more; in legth it felt better (the previous had some padding). At first I really disliked the new approach to combat in this second game, but once I understood it and the fights required some actual strategy, I got to like it a lot.

Not sure what we'll play now... always wanted to finish Ilo-Milo on my X360 and there are a couple games supporting couch-coop other than more LEGO games I already purchased. Wondering if to go for simple adventure games and just take decisions together... otherwise not sure when I'll get round to play those XD

On my own I have gone back to Spider-Man for the challenges and manage to 100% and get the outstanding scores on all the challenges for the base campaign... the ones in the DLCs not sure if I'll manage, they were quite tough. Need to go back to The Last Of Us that I've put aside again.

I know the updated Cache has been played and tested loads, and I'm not informed (as in haven't played it) but on second thought, looking again at the bit, the visible head is between the crate and edge of the APC... considering you already have to preaim Car as well, you are exposed to so many lines if you have to dry peek. Makes me wonder how a (boostable) window akin the one for CT in middle would play out/if that would be more fair.

  • Best looking usermade Source engine map?

    • blackdog
    • April 20, 2020 at 9:37 AM

Definitely CSGO's maps are the best looking as it's the only Source stuff really been worked on. I haven't played it in the last year so I'll leave it to the others for that... I wanted to mention a remake from a few years back, I think was made by @JeanPaul but can't find it. I only remember was a cs_ map with sewers, yellow water, and that I saved it in my reference folder, but that's on my bkp disk atm.

If you want examples of amazing vistas in a SP context, look no further than Mission Improbable, I think the opening shots on the lighthouse, and later when you approach it, are really up there, by Mapcore user @insta. Then @marnamai really squeezed out all the juice with Downfall.

    a) Preexisting map tweaks (sometimes in the form of a joke or abstract statement). Example:

    — Optimizations — Fixed various minor visual bugs — Fixed a bug where it was possible to go under terrain

    or

    — Wall by door to A site balcony is bingelibangable. — Tweaked HDR settings.

    b) Fixes to obscure bugs. Example:

    –Fixed several unlocalized UI strings.

    c) Random ass back end updates. Example:

    – Game state integration now allows to control precision of reported floating point values using an additional configuration section:

    “output” { “precision_time” “1” “precision_position” “2” “precision_vector” “2” }

    d) Random ass front end updates. Example:

    – Updated Balkan, FBI, and ST6 sleeve textures to closer match 3rd person model. There are surely some case drops and weapon stat changes you can cherry pick, but the actual work valve has done amounts to bug fixes, tweaks, and cosmetics. I am of course glad they are patching a game with over a million concurrent players, but it would be nice to see an update closer to the caliber the Dust 2 and Train and Nuke reworks that doesn't have to be incited by eminent "death by riot". I haven't seen close to that level of effort since.

Here are some things they could have addressed in 2019: Poor wingman map pool, maps remaining with inconsistent graphical fidelity (ovp, mirage), lack of a usable semi auto rifle (this would be nice), inconsistent vertical sound, molotov rework so the area with the flame hurts you and the area with no flame doesn't (wow).

    Display More

Things I agree on: Wingman pool (many maps uploaded to workshop, one main contest held as well – guess it’s because wasn’t organised by Mapcore ?), vertical sound (“fixing” Nuke by changing just the bomb ping sound was lazy).

This is the first time I hear someone wanting a semi-auto rifle, and I don’t see why they would add one in as this is not a WW2 game and afaik that type of rifle is used with optics, so reasons not to add rifles that replace or go alongside the existing ones: you already have your zoomed ARs, tapping automatic guns is part of the skill required to play.

Map updates are something we know is happening and you recognise yourself the struggle posed by the community so I don’t see it as a Valve problem.

I don’t follow other MP games closely but afaik all those maintenance updates don’t happen at all, when is the last time they rebalanced guns in COD? Last year CSGO saw the big meta shift just by changing the pricing to the SG and Aug, then was reverted, now the same guns have been changed in their stats. I can see that many maintenance updates are cryptic and useless to most, or sound borderline jokes, but honestly I don’t see what they should write. It’s very hard to indicate an area on a map in words. They are anal, but that’s bug fixing. If I had to speculate I would say those are automated info dumps that come out of bug tracking tools. I don’t see the reason of making them readable “for humans” cos you can play and have fun without it, if your life would be so impacted by the understanding of those changes, I think you’d understand them. Or , like in my case, you don’t care at all about it but your background and knowledge allows you to understand them if you happen to read them.
