It's actually the Mafia 2 remaster that I was a bit more disappointed with, whole thing is mostly about up-rezed assets without proper art direction. That one is rushed ?

I might sound contradictory in my complaints but just wanted to say I don't think I'd care about the rubber faces, I'm fine without the latest graphics tech... as long the rest of the package works well, and I think animations bug me way much more than graphics. For example I wasn't annoyed by Alan Wake's models, but I was really put off by the subpar face anim that made the characters look almost like Jeff Dunham's puppets.

It's not just what I'm reading here, from the bits of gameplay I've seen I'm being quite bugged by the breadcrumb style waypoint system... are there no settings to make the experience more adult?

Mafia 2 like I said I don't care much for graphics, I'd just be happy to be able to play a game I paid for, it was unplayable in the original version on my PC (which is infuriating considering it was running on X360 and that I can run more demanding/newer games perfectly fine).

Just managed to beat that bitch that is the last checkpoint in CoD World at War, not sure how many times I've tried it... not sure how are you supposed to make it at Veteran (I played Hardened). Having unlocked it, I gave a spin to the Nazi Zombie mode, and can see the appeal and why it took off. It's also the reason why I haven't insta-deleted the game from the X360, I might play a few more rounds to vent off.

Otherwise I've been playing Quake, believe it or not I only completed it once back when it came out. I've installed all those nice engine updates and mods, and going through the amazing Arcane Dimensions.

I was already pretty much of the idea, but after Dux's "review" I'm definitely not getting this at full price. And maybe never. I'd rather keep my good memories of when I played it back then.

I'll install Mafia 2 Definitive since they were so kind to upgrade my copy, hoping it runs decent (the original seemed to have the same CPU single thread bottleneck of Crysis).

I never look at reviews but it came up while scrolling on Facebook and was curious on the reasoning of such a harsh score.

I personally just find baffling how bad animations look, considering that Mafia 3 clearly has better animations and animation blending. How the newest game is not using the tech from the immediate predecessor?? I understand budgets and publisher constraints but what matters, the end result, like a half done job.

Gamespot gave just a 6/10, main complaint seems to be the game feels “archaic”

Well after all the talk done on the subject in the last two years, after promising not to enforce such policy, it’s something that needs a spotlight on.

But who cares, they got their preorders based on these very responsible stances they had until now.

    Do you map for it?

Looks good! Would be great if you pieced it together, the beauty of Quake is you don't need to be super consistent to make an episode as such. Maybe #blocktober can come to the rescue :D

I have never mapped for Quake ?

@will2k fantastic! is that gonna be a mini-sp, something more like a challenge? (I see a map like that like an A-to-B kind of map)

It isn't quite as visually spectacular as the more recent AD maps, but it's still pretty breath-taking in parts and it uses Copper mod which stays much more faithful to Quake's weird thematic mashup than AD.

Ah! I recently caught up with the Quakecast and heard talking a lot about the "smej"... they interviewed two Finns that participated and it really interested me to see those maps, I was planning on playing it after completing AD.

I am playing very little atm, I only played through 3 maps of the mod (to be fair the first two are massive, Foggy bottoms and the one with the monorail at the beginning, and they took me both x2 sessions to complete).

Are you making stuff for Quake @text_fish?

I've just got back into Quake recently and slowly playing through Arcane Dimensions, seeing all that amazing stuff really wants to make you map!

Yeah I thought that would have been the case [merging different stations]. And I could totally tell it was the Jubilee, and I was wondering if the big escalator were from Waterloo as well because it's pretty much spot on; I commuted for a couple years on that line to see my girlfriend... friggin' two hours commute if you didn't miss trains/no delays (and a good £20 a pop).

Doing lots of writing for job applications, so I need ambient music, and MrRobot's is so great.

All the "volumes" are available on Spotify, but I have Amazon Music so I go with the limited selection there to avoid the ads

Seems a bit big and bare for a Wingman map, but haven't run around it so can't confirm. I find those greenish trims quite weird, I can see you want them to get the theme of the map through but they don't blend with the rest, to pull off that kind of detailing you need also custom assets to go along.

    Good luck with the submission!

What I mean is that for games that are heavily based on narrative, the most important part of the score comes from that aspect, which isn’t new, so for a remake you are mostly evaluating the technical aspect…

But yeah I wasn’t saying they shouldn’t get scores higher than X, after all new generations of gamers don’t have any idea ;)

When you put it like that sounds like a great deal for gamers, but also then why aren’t game devs keeping cost down?

Fact is for as much as Activision and the likes want to tell us that cost is increased and price has stayed the same… it’s not, because the 10M game is massive with the purpose of keeping player engaged long time, they are doing a long after lunch support with content release that you pay for so the game is not really 50$, ends up being so much more. Hell how much does it cost a ship in that scam of Star Citizen?

Someone posted in the last couple days how small % of players complete games, and we are talking even heavy story driven SP games… so why the hell are you making this massive games nobody completes and cost a nation’s GDP to make.

    Quote from [HP]

1 hour ago, [HP] said: Which means, we're going to see less and less "single player" games, and more and more games that have good potential of building communities around it.

Maybe this wouldn't be the case if people were willing to pay 80 bucks for a single player game? The return on investment would maybe become feasible, but that would never happen. It's a fucking mess man.

I feel that’s a trend that we feared was coming, that was widely announced… then we saw somewhat a resurgence of SP focused games that weren’t sandboxes. Even considerably hard games like Doom, or niche like Hellblade.

I feel that there will always be a recirculation of ideas and needs, if AAA moves to GAAS then indies will fill that gap, until AAA see the benefit of making smaller games and go back to the old model for a while.

I don’t pay 60$ now, I won’t pay 80$ tomorrow. I will pay for 30$ for much less content. Make Red Dead Redemption a 12h game and I can afford to play it, but it’s sequels that come out more often. Gabe and Valve were onto something with the episodes if you ask me.
