I'm putting my money they won't refund if you finish a game, maybe even if you go 50%/4+ hours into it.

Pre-purchased this. The little I've seen is looking good and I got a special deal for it (24 euros). It seemed stupid to pass it up.

    WHERE??

At that price i'd preorder it too!

You chose an hard one to start!

To make a texture to tile, the only system i know is to offset the canvas in PS, so that you have your left and right seam touching in the middle of the image (in this case, if you need to tile vertically also offset vertically). Then you play with the clone-stamp tool and make it so there's no seam. To test it i'd make a pattern and apply on a new document.

Problem I encountered is that the result can be smudgy.

Back when HL mods where in full swing i used a bit PhotoSeam that does a few things automatically, dunno if it's still supported.

Not easy task working and achieving a great result with just a couple of photographic layers, I stopped texturing because my attempts where always too noisy by working only with photographic layers.

Anyways, I think it would be best for you to first create the brick wall, then apply the vegetation on top. This way you can have two elements to mix and match... and I guess it would make your work just easier.

My experience is very basic, i just did a couple of sets for good ol' HL, after that I still sometime do tiling to use in compositions, so I (yet) dunno the complexities and implications of normals, specular etc., but for the articles/tutorials i've read here and there for curiosity, I think this diffuse texture is too saturated and especially there are too many shadows that could appear odd in-game.

There's a "we will not refund if we smell fraud" clause in the detailed conditions.

Maybe they'll track if you beat the game (a-la Steam) and don't refund in that case.

Or maybe they'll put filler content in the games that will prevent you to finish in one day

If you take the two paintings, i'd think they are just "inspiration", reference artworks not necessarily made for his game FMPONE. But the basketball one, that should have been manipulated.

    My interpretation:

    1. the game world, featuring gravity and other kind of anomalies

    2. the world before, were humanity went all in cybernetics (a-la Deus Ex - see carbon fiber prosthetics and jetpack) and DNA manipulation (players are giants)

    3. the event that changes the world, a catastrophe that changes the status-quo

Low quality in the paintings i think is just compression because of posting on the social networks, plus it's clearly something cropped from a higher-res piece.

Do you think he could be showing anything at Gamescom or during the event, just to steal the show? Because to me it seems to early for him to have some meaningful material to unveil. And i'm not interested in just another CG teaser to announce his making a game.

I haven't played the game so I'm just doing "academy talk".

As far as I can remember from my school days, morals are a cornerstone of fables.

A generic story doesn't need one: when you read a biography (or watch that kind of movie) there's no moral, it should just tell you the life of that character, having a moral wouldn't be an accurate portrayal of it, you should decide if you like the guy or think he's a moron. Same goes for all those kind of "reportage" stories. Not sure if it would be appropriate to think to other genres of story in reply to your argument but i'm thinking to other material that (apparently to me) functions without a moral.

I guess that more or less you can extract a moral from any story, but that would mean the moral is not the focus of the story (which is how I interpret your complaint on Gone Home), is something personal.

I do agree that a moral makes a story more profound and meaningful, and it's something that I tend to think could make a lot of games stand out.

I only played HL expansions and Brothers In Arms from Gearbox. Road To Hill 30 was really beautiful*. Earned In Blood felt /meh and I didn't finished it.

Maybe I should try it, but i was never attracted by the Borderlands gameplay (AI seems to be cannon fodder)... that was sad because I really followed it since the announce and really digged the art style when the switch happened.

I find curious that from their pov they "risked to look like Rage and Fallout", but at the time in the Italian forum everyone was saying that Rage was a Borderlands rip-off

*Complicated relationship with that game: it is the first game I ever pre-ordered and I went so far to buy the collector's edition, just to find that the game wasn't running smoothly on my ATI, which pissed me off beyond any measure because other Unreal Engine games were running perfectly and BiA didn't look better. So I sold the game (luckily the Tin Box with bonus material was a separate thing - so i kept it). Then when I got a new computer someone passed me a pirate copy of the game, I played it and since it was now running perfectly, I bought again the standard retail to keep in my collection

it's the easiest thing to prepare ever, it takes longer to clean the food processor than the rest.

And it's actually a vegan receipe: http://gi365.info/food/nutella-pudding/ but i couldn't find coconut milk so I used (double?) cream and also did put a little milk in the food processor.

I just come out of a night of 6 hours sleep, subdivided by a couple of "shifts"... I need to get up about every 3 hours because our poor old dog needs to go outside. This has been going on for months now.

And this is already the 4th night out of five since my parents got back from holidays -_-

    Quote from Thrik

So that's another thing those struggling to go to sleep should try [...] turn the computer off 30–60 minutes before the time

I thought you were going to write to find a girlfriend

    Quote from Furyo

    - Give yourself a cool down period between your last screen activity (PC, tv) and your going to bed time. Otherwise your brain will be in hyper activity from both what you were doing and the bright screen keepng your eyes up and alert way past their bedtime.

I definitely must try, because my habit is just to stay at the computer until i collapse. I must return to the very old habit of reading when in bed... that would just be a good thing on its own, i've piled up so many gifted books in the last years.

anyone with a fulltime job considered working 4 days instead of 5? I can't right right now (just got 10 nightshifts done ) but as soon as I have the financial freedom to do so: fuck the 5 day work per week schedule man, live life!

Seen any Jason Fried talks uh? I didn't want to say anything about this stuff because i'm currently unemployed and haven't work in the gaming industry, but Corwin's post talking about crunching really tempted me to.
