Captain obvious here, but open source means distributing the work files is not optional. Make available uncompiled/unexported models, original psds etc., end-users then export to the formats the engine of their choice accepts.

If the material was created to be used in Source then well, one can provide the ready-to-use asset.

Other kinds of distribution would make it a royalty-free repository.

I guess it's possible to use services like GitHub for this kind of thing? Dunno if it's possible to create a "channel" to aggregate contributors, I don't use these things, but it would be the ideal solution as an end-user could then contribute the adapted model for Cryengine for eg.

Hate Dropbox, plus it's highly impractical for this kind of thing as one user would be forced to sync the whole repository whereas it might just need two models. And it would quickly ramp up to gigabytes of data.

There are loads of repositories for all sort of media out there, I'm sure there is some ready to use CMS or a plugin that would do the job.

Anyway, definitely a great initiative!

Several games in the past have had bonus material in a separate box from the game disc.

A couple weeks ago I noticed I was sweating more than usual and the night before I had 2-3 glasses of (white) wine.

Last night I also had several drinks (wine+rum & coke) and I woke up in bed completely wet I had to put a towel in my bed :-|
