Now, that I have more time again for personal projects I want to pick up some new stuff. First on my list is Substance Painter, and it's been really awesome so far.

So I decided to rebake an old piece of mine and to retexture it :). It's still work in progress, details like decals and small stuff is missing, but wanted to share anyways.

All pictures are from inside UE4. The mesh has around 22k triangles and I use two set of 4k maps.

    Sigh.
I'm gonna try a couple challenges to see if my performances are improved or worsened by the updates... although I don't see any trace of downloads.

The game is back on Steam as of the 28-29th October.

    The announcements also reads:

    Quote

we will be giving away FREE digital copies of games from the Batman: Arkham library. This means we will be giving away copies of Batman: Arkham Asylum GOTY, Batman: Arkham City GOTY, Batman: Arkham Origins, and Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate. The Batman: Arkham library of games will be given to everyone who has already purchased or will purchase Batman: Arkham Knight for PC prior to 11:59 pm PDT, November 16, 2015

these games will be added to the libraries by december, they say.

I was really hoping they would release the Remastered version (which from a quick search atm is mentioned only for Xone and PS4), and I'd rather get that as a thank you for preordering the latest botched title.

FMPONE remade Cache and Season and both maps are today considered as amazing, while he is considered as a god, so I don't see why Tensei shouldn't fix Aztec if he wants to.

He got his name with Gwalior and Museum, released before Cache, if my memory doesn't trick me

Gotham season 1 finale, and I mean last 2-3 episodes, were very good. Happy about how it escalated.

Juat watched first and second episode of Mr Robot and it's a damn good show! Amazon Prime exclusive atm.

Forgot to say, completed the story two nights ago. The ending... *sniff*

Great game, pity the few bugs here and there, for instance on the map I still have a couple icons of loot that has been cleared (project parts icons when I've built everything) and I wonder if all the loots still indicated are missing or not, or if I'll search for hours for nothing.

Can really recommend the game, suggest to follow the story and not focus on clearing the Wasteland so much... it's a real shame upgrading the Magnum Opus to it's full only when there are a couple camps you still have to clear.

  • So I have some spare games...

    ~

Have a situation with the girlfriend: she wanted to talk, a month ago now. Basically she wants to seriously look forward. She made clear that she's looking at having kids in five years, and if I have no such intentions that's a deal breaker.
As I'm not even on a job that I want for my future, I am struggling imagining a life farther than a year from now. The positive side of this, is that it shook me and motivated me doing something to change the situation and she's supportive...

...as I'm more and more intolerant toward my current "pay the bills" job, which makes me feel stressed and easily unnerved.
Trying to channel this into being productive, so I finally started two projects that should allow me to freshen up/learn skills and be something to put in a portfolio, but I haven't been able to work regularly and make progress really. I should also start applying with my current CV, just to see how it goes, might manage to get back into IT for starters.

Game dev related, I'm looking into Unity to try creating a prototype with a friend (I would do the level design) but it's quite depressing having to learn so much to do the smallest thing. Tried a bit ProBuilder but not sure the free version has all the features necessary to do basic building(?) and spending 95$ for the full seems excessive when I know I could build stuff out of the box in UE. Since was on offer on Steam couple days ago, I purchased a Blender "Game Asset Creation" video course.
The other project would be a management tool for the place where I work, which I think would improve many people lives a lot. Hoping to get a (canned) prototype in front of my boss and pitch it asking to put me to work on it at least half of my work time.

All of this is being very stressful, so I also eat shit like a pig while not going to the gym or doing any regular exercise of sorts: I'm so not in the shape I would like to be.
Seems there's time for doing nothing, and this constant morale swings (creativity boost, reality downer) is making me feel a bit distant from the girlfriend, while she's fine now that I've promised and started doing something for my situation. Instead I even dreamt a couple times of another girl (the first one I was liking when I got to the UK).

Don't get me wrong, I really appreciated the introduction of driveable vehicles, it gave scope and size to the world. Just I think it was a bit too fragmented to be fun as it should have been. Of course stopping here and there for a puzzle is perfect, is the whole in between that I didn't like much. Probably because I played too anal and cautious, picking enemies from a distance where possible etc

Airboat or any driving wouldn't be bad if they were actually doing so. The problem imo is that there's too much available exploration, so you are continuously stopping instead of driving, jumping and killing, which is what makes driving a vehicle fun.

I never played HL1 and never finished HL2. I don't know why, HL2 has the best atmosphere of any game I can remember.
    I must see to it.

Well i think it's undeniable that HL2 had a big pacing problem. I remember playing CS:S with the aka "I still haven't finished HL2", and I've always been a big fan. Hell, if I got into modding and wanting to work on games was because HL. HL2 was a great art piece, but narrative was too diluted, thing that they fixed with the Episodes.

When I saw the video the feeling was just plain Quake :| only the plasma gun and the doomguys are reminiscent of Doom. Yes there's also stuff that makes it feel/look like Halo.

Can't say I'm looking forward to this, I liked much more the survival/horror steer they chose when they created Doom 3.

I decided only couple days ago to finally go to Gastown and tackled the story mission there... still way to go, I have to unlock the whole V8 engine tree.

If there is one downside for this game, I think it's the narrative that should have been directed a bit more. I'm 64h in and like 68% completion?

I have two 27" monitors at home and they do take up a lot of space. Most of the time I am only using the one screen and the second screen just has mumble, steam, music etc open whilst I browse the web or play a game. It does come in handy when developing though. Then you can have your tools on the one screen and any references and such on the other screen. Saves a lot of alt+tabbing.

Yeah do agree on the usefulness of multi-display, just from what I've seen (but never had the chance to use myself) I'd say that 2x27" it's a waste of money cos the second monitor wouldn't be used as much. Especially if one is keeping communication or documentation, I imagine finding a vertical display more useful. I've seen designers using a laptop with all the PS palettes on the laptop screen and the art on the big one above, I can imagine that working well, otherwise to me just seems too much.

For gaming I'm feeling more and more like that I want to play on a giant TV screen (as I haven't been playing any multiplayer FPS in a long time). Dunno how I would feel stepping up to a 27"-30" and getting a comfortable chair ;)

I hope you don't mind the smaller size of the Kana. I could never get a good grip on it and my hand would cramp up. Its a great mouse if you travel around with a laptop but I wouldn't use it as a desktop mouse as it is small.

Arrived yesterday. I wouldn't mind a bigger mouse, but this is the exact same footprint of the Logitech Pilot 300mx that I've been using for the last decade, so even with my big hands looks like I'll be comfortable.
Would like something a bit heavier though.

Also surprised that hovering the mouse on the pad a few mm it still tracks, so maybe that could be annoying when re-positioning the mouse when getting close to the edges (although this should happen much less now).

    ~

Now I have to look again for a case/sleeve cos the HP one didn't fit by 1cm! :(

Just had a quick look at the curved monitors, about £800. That's more than I am willing to spend especially when a 27" 144hz dual monitor setup would cost about the same. Although dual 27" is also probably overkill. I'm currently using one of these, the price listed on that site is WAY overpriced.

    http://www.samsung.com/us/computer/monitors/LS24D300HS/ZA

I will most likely buy a matching pair of new gaming monitors and mount them on something like this.

    http://www.amazon.com/Mount-It-Monit…1/dp/B00DQ3AE5E

My current 24" is fine in terms of size, but would like a second one so i can run mapping/modelling programs on separate monitors, or run a game/movie on one while being able to see messages or game wikis on the other.

Yeah I understand your point... what sizes you're looking at then, just for curiosity.
I ask just because I imagined you were going to get twin screens, and the jump from 24" to 27" is already substantial in estate... I don't think I'll ever need/want a 2x27", I'd more likely have a 27" and next to it a vertically rotated monitor of whatever size (24"?) would match the height of the 27". Or get a single 30".
