On top of what’s been already mentioned I’d mention Far Cry 5 and its arcade, which if I understood correctly back at the announcement, includes assets from FC3 and FC4 to use.

If you are into MOBA you can use Source 2 for Dota.

The latest Gears of War has a very easy tile-based editor you can play with (for that coop escape mode only?).

Trackmania used to have an editor, so check if is still the case if you like racing games.

If you want to learn UE4 I think Insurgency has an editor, I’m pretty sure they had a mapping competition.

Theres also a WW2 multiplayer game (UE4) that comes with an editor, can’t remember its name unfortunately.

Saw a title on YT [from Gamedevfromscratch] that Adobe is joining the Blender fund… they must be the best funded open source project out there now/ever!

(imagine if OpenOffice had a bit more support than IBM)

Do you artists think Blender is going to be the most widespread tool in the game industry? Is it being used for some level design as well? (I have seen stuff done in Max+plugins for example)

I’ve blazed through the three seasons of Colony.

I liked how they don’tthrow everything in your face right at the start, so the unsettling aspects of the occupation grow every episode, keeping you watching.

Disappointing ending but I imagine they were planning another season and got cancelled.

I would bet they sourced ideas directly from HL2, as the war with the alien lasts 8hrs, the drones have many points in common with the one in the game, and the aliens are heavily reliant on tech like the Combine, just instead of a citadel they have giant walls.

Guess the subtitle makes sense after the last video that was posted here recently

Like I said, Lumberyard is just going open source and was actively developed until now, and I guess community will do further.

Of course I trust Crytek more than anyone else with a tech coming from there, but they haven’t managed to release updates as people expected or promised.

Wouldn’t think revenue was important @will2k, thought you were just playing with a scene not a proper game. Anyway was just interested to know since it’s the same underlying tech.

@ThunderKeil not sure about Amazon Studios, I know there are a couple articles detailing the problems, I think I read one and most of the blame was on poor management, atm I don’t remember particular things on the tech, although I can imagine that when you try to use one engine for every type of game, you’ll struggle. Also devs get used to things so it’s imaginable that they would rather use UE or Unity. I think there was a similar problem in EA when they started using Frostbite for everything (NFS the Run was the first notable non-BF game using the engine if I’m not mistaken) and the toolset wasn’t mature yet.
