Doom is a symbol of careless, coverless combat where you rely more or clutch reactions and instinct rather than thinking. Having shield enemies in Doom is an antithesis to what the game is about.

That's true -through and through- just saying that I didn't mind too much ;)

Really, just hitting the shuffle button on the discography of these guys will always boost your power, I think AC/DC stuff is evergreen.

Camera shake doesn't really bother me, but I get what you mean... I guess is the Luftrausers school of shake! ;) There is an option in the menu to half it.

It is quite fun, is delivering that short burst entertainment that many want/need, and the "just another run" for the competitive score. Is just very hard to settle on a balancing to allow fun but keeping it challenging. I'm very happy several suggestions I made upsetting my friend at first, have been put into the game, some are quite big :)

You can follow updates on Morfeo's twitter... not sure if you know Filippo, he was in Crytek when they only had one studio.

I feel the game suffers a bit from too much hype for what it delivers. I felt like I enjoyed Mankind Divided much more than this.

See, for example I found the bosses a very boring process, and was only on "hurt me plenty". Can't imagine trying to get it done harder (tried the ultimate method but haven't been able to finish the first level I think).

Shield soldiers are tough, I found them probably the most annoying as well, but still don't mind too much, felt like they pushed me to think how to approach the encounters were they were there... there were many options to take them down, mainly a smart use of grenades, but as well use of the power ups (if I had the Haste they were my first target) and environment to get around them, or even just double jump over them to hit from behind.

I was surprised how easily Barons of Hell and Hell Knights can be dispatched of.

Kleiner? (haha) to tackle AI directed hordes of combine and xen monsters in the North Pole. Or if you don't have friends then the other three characters can be AI controlled. It might not allow for such detailed storytelling, but at this point we all just want to confirm that G-Man is Gordon from the future sent back to tell us that the combine aren't the real enemy, it was the floating plasma babies all along!

Well the implementation of the AI Director in HL is something they quite openly hinted when they were hyping L4D. Surely they must have tried some of that stuff as well.

Personally I wouldn't want H4L... don't really like L4D (but I admit I didn't play much) but I don't see how the carnage gameplay could fit. And I can hardly imagine a fulfilling experience in co-op with a more "boring" game.

The Director could be a great addition for bigger fight sequences and other shooting encounters, even in a singleplayer game imo. Wouldn't revolve the whole game around that though.

PS: remember that in Raising The Bar they were already saying they were trying to find the most meaningful addition to the gameplay, and stuff like substantial dialogue trees (see: Mass Effect?) were considered.

The problem is that even though my domain was registered until later this year, somehow it was bought last March and replaced with a placeholder site, probably waiting for me to ask to buy it back, because there can't be much demand for scorchingcraniums.com

So at the minute I have no portfolio. There's a slow version up on webarchive - how bad would it look if I linked to that, or said I can provide a portfolio on request?

Well the domain is not that great tbh, quite long and prone to typos.

You can register anything you like, what about your real name…

Problem with vehicles is not much for how long you had to drive them, but that they were used wrong.

Vehicles are meant to be driven. Even in EP2 what did they do? They tape a radar on the car and make you stop every 100m to collect items.

I will read the article later, but if mentioned live action and other experiments, than is the written version of what they were saying on the GameInformer Show the other day on YouTube.

It's weird if the article conclusion is no sequel, because in the video they were all agreeing that something half-life would come out this year, at least more to-tier mod that could be vouched by Valve. And they were saying what @Radu commented above, that maybe valve could validate some community product.

Anyway HL3 is not dead because at some point I'll work in their offices and do it myself ?

PS: for what you were saying about impossibility of satisfying expectations… I get what you mean but as a long time fan I can hardly imagine I'd be satisfied by some weird experimental project like the live action (or heavily narrative) "game" TellTale style, which is what sounds like one of the projects was. Hell, I wasn't satisfied with HL2. Always said that there pacing was off and they hit their stride only with the episodes.

Did you have a farewell party/drinks or something @Sprony?

    Otherwise what @Vaya said :)

Great quote by the way! Really is appropriate. It also makes me think about what an Italian guy I know said about people in London: "this is like a port and you don't make friends, people come and go and basically you don't get attached because you expect them to leave. Also if they are Brits they are cold".

This is by the way from someone that I visited before moving here and when I reached out to spend some free time was never available and coming back to me :D

Some girls that have left this place where I work, I'm still in contact with, we actually went on a weekend break together and we plan to keep doing that every year.

I'd say buy it if it's 50% off.

I get what you mean @Rick_D, I pretty much feel the same for a lot of aspects… I just think they missed out big time with the pacing. Also TV show would have definitely worked better if they did something a-la Alan Wake with the webisode prologue.

That's why I'm disappointed, seems actually a step back from Alan Wake. Also I bought the collector's edition being a Remedy fan boy, and the blue ray doesn't work on my computer, Sam Lake was unable to explain some concepts without avoiding spoilers (which was unnecessary as I was perfectly able to understand what her meant without the examples).

What do you think of the combat, you played on PC, was it running smoothly? I wonder if my problems with that aspect of the game are tied to performance. I'm tempted to replay it and blaze through to see if it's just my exploration addiction that spoiled it… at the same time I want to play other stuff.

Might be that going back to it in a year time I would love it, like I did for Alan Wake.

Agree with @Spronyabout having some good ideas… (but what movie don't have any?). I think main problem is they jump too much around and they should show more instead of doing exposition.

I was thinking the same as @Vaya, would be cool to remake everything with today's standards and tech, would be awesome. And in particular the first three episodes would "just" need re-adjusting, you're witnessing the birth of Darth Vader but they show you a winy teenager with the power of the force of the boner.
