I'll probably die of old age before @blackdog makes up his mind so here's a new one from a great movie:

Rest assured, we took an in-depth look. Not just us, but all parties involved. Each made their own top list and that eventually got merged. Not only were the maps thoroughly tested but they were also extensively played. Personally, I think that's the only viable and honest way to do all the hard work you guys put in justice.

Normally I would agree. But in this case, seeing as how I went out, the ball should be in their court, not mine. Besides, I still have friends that work for the company and we keep in touch. I'm purely talking about people at the venue I've worked. My 'real' friends within the company all work at different locations now. So in short, fuck 'em.

Even though I'm glad my old job is over and the break up is getting uglier by the day, I sure miss those early years there. Not a night goes by that I don't have dreams about it one way or another. I spent a decade there, almost a third of my life. That's really something. But those days and people are long gone. But you know what really surprised me the most? Due to circumstances beyond my control, I vanished without a trace, not having a chance to say goodbye. People I've worked with for over a decade, never reached out or asked what's up. Now I had no illusions about being friends, we we're just colleagues, but that shit is ice-cold man. Because with some of them, I did hang out with in my free time. Out of sight, out of mind I suppose.
It reminds me of a quote by Tom Stoppard: "We cross our bridges when we come to them and burn them behind us, with nothing to show for our progress except a memory of the smell of smoke, and a presumption that once our eyes watered".

I think the prequels get way too much hate. Much more than they deserve. I'm not saying they were great films but not nearly as bad as people make them out to be. A Phantom Menace was terrible. Really really terrible. But Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith had a lot of good ideas and great moments. Better screenplays, less CGI and good design would have gone a long way. The main reason why most of the acting was so bad is because nothing was real. It takes a certain kind of actor to play a roll convincing when there's just a green room to act in.

So fitting right now:

I broke the share button on my controller. I kept yelling 'look at this magnificent art' even though there was no one around. I kept waking up at night from doing the Tarzan yell in my sleep due to all that grappling. I annoyed my wife because after every 5 minutes of playing I was again yelling 'you have to come and see this'. Other nights I woke up in total disbelieve 'it's in-game!', 'It's really in-fucking-game!'.
It is a phenomenal game with a perfect ending. An ending that still resonates with me days after I finished it. It's by far the best series I've ever played and all those Uncharted 3 haters can suck it. I immediately bought The Nathan Drake Collection even though I already own all of them. I'm even thinking of getting a Vita for The Golden Abyss.
Here's a really good article about why the ending works so well.

That's also Red Letter Media and besides being bitter cunts they are also big Star Trek fans, so there's that.

This sounds super cliche, but I'm going to find myself again in 2017. After 11 years of which the last 4 were fucking horrible, I finally said goodbye to my old job. I have 18 months of salary left to figure out what I want to do with my life. I'm going to spend a lot of time with my wife and daughter, I'm going to chill with friends like it was 1999 and I'm going to play the shit out of my back catalog. I have big plans for Mapcore and Eurogamer as well. Maybe I'll even make a map

It feels so liberating, leaving all that crap behind me. Every morning I wake up like this:

One way or another, I always wanted to work in this industry. I've been a part-time journalist for Eurogamer for over a year now, but I'm still not where I want to be. I want to do this full-time. It's good to be eager and ambitious but it can also blindside you. Wednesday I was at an Resident Evil 7 press event. They rented this mansion in Amsterdam and we could play the game for 4 hours. Afterwards, there was a dinner with hired actors portraying the Baker family. Besides normal food, there were also grasshoppers and other things you normally don't eat.
I was sitting there at the table, cracking jokes and drinking beer with other journalists. The Netherlands isn't that big, but all the major players of game websites or television programs were there. Now, this had nothing to do with being starstruck, but imagine sitting next to somebody who's reviews you grew up with or somebody that runs the magazine you grew up with as kid. With people who successfully run their own businesses and people you know from tv. You get the point.
At the time, I didn't realize it. I was enjoying my beer and having a good time. But now, a couple of days later, I realize how far I've already come. I realize that Christoper Reeve was right all along. So many of our dreams at first seem impossible, then they seem improbable and when we summon the will, they soon become inevitable.
