    hey Aaron,

thanks a lot for your comment. Yeah I think after I finish my intern which I am starting on monday, I will redo my site. Making everything a little cleaner and easier to navigate. As soon as I have more portfolio pieces to show I will reduce or completely get rid of the details pages.

  • Cry Engine 3 Geom Entity Question

    • hamzaaa
    • October 11, 2011 at 9:37 AM

    - BRUSHES:

Brushes are compiled geometry containing no extra data other than collision.

Typically, most levels are created with brushes as they are simple geometry.

    - ENTITIY:

Entities, which the player can interact with in some form.

    - ARCHETYPE ENTITIY:

An Archetype entity is based on a regular entity and specifies individual parameter

values for that regular entity. The main advantage of archetypes is that if the value of an

archetype parameter is changed, all instances of that archetype in the level will be updated

    automatically.

    - GEOM. ENTITY:

When objects are placed as Geom entities and it have user-defined properties

(discussed later), they become interactive entities with physical values, so they can behave

like real-life objects. It is similar to a basic entity, but simpler, more efficient, and has fewer

    configurable parameters.

    - PREFAB:

Prefabs are groups of objects that can be placed in the level as instances similar to archetype

entities. Altering one prefab universally applies the changes to each instance of the prefab

    object.

got that from the CE3 cookbook. Maybe this brings some clarity

    Hey Chimeray,

thanks for your comments. Maybe I had a wrong concept in mind because I thought scrolling was more annoying than clicking. I created my portfolio with the help of Helder Pinto's (he has these appearing buttons when you hover over a thumbnail) and Clement Melendez's portfolio (he has the shadowbox gallery) and sort of combined those two. Maybe it was too much. Right now I think I will leave it at that but after my Internship I may change the usability and layout. Thanks for your comments

    Hey Rick,

thanks a lot for your comment, I really appreciate it. I have to correct you, the Gallery is not Flash, it's shadowbox (javascript)

But is it really that user unfriendly? I thought it would be a good choice to make the gallery like that ^^

Yeah I read that article and other articles and tried to create some portfolio guidelines http://%7boption%7d

but maybe I wasn't sticking to them to the fullest. Do you think I should rework my Portfolio (what exactly should I rework?)

  • Useful literature

    Hi folks,

I am currently making my way becoming a Environment Artist, Prop Modeller and Level Designer. Besides making tutorials and personal projects I'd like to know what literature you can recommend. By that I mean books, articles, papers etc. Would be nice if you could give me some examples!

    Thanks in advance!

    Hey Hélder,

I really enjoyed listening to your tutorial. You explained everything clearly and comprehendable. I would love to see more tutorials of you regarding CryEngine3 or even other topics. Keep it rolling!

    Hi Clint,

I have some crits and comments for you. Firstly you shouldn't start your portfolio with your face, start the portfolio with your art. People want to see that first and foremost and will automatically want to know more about you in person if they enjoy your art. I think you won't need any photo on your webpage so you can either remove it or add it to your CV section. Your CV section is too short and unstructured, also it is kinda hard to read with the CryEngine screenshot in the background. Regarding the screenshots, it seems like you just screengrabbed them and that's why they have a kinda low resolution besides that they still show they displayinfo. Let me redirect you to this site, which shows how to take proper screenshots in CryEngine: http://www.crydev.net/viewtopic.php?f=282&t=69611 (Second post by Lavizh). Also the rest of your pictures are somewhat low resolution and you don't provide high res versions of them but let me tell you that you really should. Thumbnails are good to make the viewer interested but to get a grasp of the detail of the work you should really provide high res screens.

Look at other portfolios around here at the forums, how they did it and try to read up how a portfolio should be built. Some time ago I created a little .pdf with some guidelines on portfolio creation. You can download it here: http://%7boption%7d

    Maybe it'll help you out!

    Hello everybody,

*edit: just notice after 3 days that I didn't introduce myself

My name is Björn, try to pronounce it (byourrn). I am 22 y.o. and just finished my bachelor thesis starting to focus on modeling and level design for games with game design as a sidelane. As you can read below I started creating my portfolio and now want to apply for an internship to finally finish my bachelor. I already saw awesome stuff on the forum and I hope I can become a part of this community.

I want to share my portfolio website with you to get some feedback on the site itself and its contents. I am a newcomer and started making the site 2 Months ago. Note that it still is work in progress. I hope you enjoy some stuff that you see!

I am looking forward for your C&C.
