Very much not sure about this but are you sure you have the navigation volume set up correctly? With the right AI type, size etc (for medium characters it has usually been blue if it build correctly, but from the look of the mesh it does seem correct as there is a lot of room between objects and bounds)?

I don't get how people can watch this. I cringe every time I see it. The acting is bad, the dialogue is cheesy. The enemies and story is like written by a 5 year old (except a 5 year old can actually tell a better story).

I was really skeptical of it myself but reversed the opinion by the end of the first (new) season.

Dialogue is often cheesy, yes. But the acting has most of the time been at least decent for the main characters in my opinion. Yes, the big story arks can get confusing and convoluted, some of the plot devices can be cheats brought in 7 minutes before the episode wraps up, but there is some brilliant stuff in there and it is one of the most if not the most inventive, weird and charming shows out there (on imdb it is holding an 8.9 which says something, but the fan army really is strong with this one). Weeping angels for example are one of the best concepts for monsters If have seen as of late ("statues" they can only move if no one is looking at them, think Schroedinger's cat, not saying it hasn't been done). My inner child loves the show to bits and I'm all for it.

If high production values are a must for you, then know that they went up quite a bit with the 5th series, after Moffat got a lot of funds from Sherlocks success, mainly the quality of cinematography and lighting. The cg and effects work still has a cheap taste to it at many times, but that has always been like that and I don't really mind.

Just curious have you actually given it a proper chance(I'd presume yes from your comment)?

I don't know if there is much of a fandom for DW here, but I personally have not been as eager to see something as this for quite a long time now.

Most if not all of the stuff talked about there will have a chance to become a reality, outside of a neat tech demo, in the latter half of the next decade. Automating stuff out side of anything from a very controlled, sterile environment poses huge engineering challenges, many of which we have still not discovered yet.

Or we could enter en masse or team up for the next Ludum Dare from the 22nd to the 25th of this month.

Great, thanks if you find anything specifically related to creating behaviour trees in Ue4 can you post it here too? I'll probably use this thread for related questions as I get further into it all

Sure I'll post it here when i find something interesting:), it will probably happen when I start playing with behavior trees myself. And as far as I know from Epics twitch stream they are doing a pretty decent push to get their own proper documentation and tutorials out as well so those will probably be visible everywhere once they are out.

Yep I think so, doesn't seem to be many around. Failing the behaviour tree stuff I'll look into the other ways of setting up AI, as in the videos above

Added a gamasutra article dealing with the very subject in my previous post.

MotivationI wanted to do a summer project, have loads of ideas but pretty much all of them too complicated (including this one). The desired qualities I was looking for were: something a bit different, something with personality, something that stays away from ultra violence, is designed for VR, and most of all a fun and an interesting project to work on.

    Enter:

    Chums

    [Blocked Image: http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x192/At…rd.jpg~original]

    Brief

A virtual reality pet / pal simulator.

    Story

By current theory they are discovered in a lab, you stumble upon said lab and all sorts of commotion follows.

    Topics

    • AI design for games - definitely kinda dumb, maybe somewhat clever, hopefully funny.
    • Character animation- I have kept clear from character animation thus far, this should change. Looking for ways to streamline the process for this project, inspiration by the approach from Wolfire games.
    • VR - give an actual reason for my Oculus DK2 order and I want to get into the VR game early on.
    • Going to use UE4 as it seems to be the best fit for trying this out.

    Gameplay

Experimental sandbox with puzzles. Played from first person perspective with the ability to interact with the chums.

    Disclaimer

I would like to think that I have some game dev experience under my belt, but in very different areas from what this project is founded on so chances are it will crash and burn and hard sooner rather than later, but I hope I will get to learn something and have fun. Also maybe someone else will get something from the process, that and the pressure generated from having made a public statement is why I posted this so early on. The only way I will be disappointed is if it just fizzles out from the get-go.

All sorts of grand and stupid promises made it is now almost time to make some boxes run around the floor, but before that I need a lab to test this in. As it has been a while since I have gotten to do art stuff and the release 4.3 of UE is just around the corner.

I'd say that the conic section is a good entry point, or if that is a bit too dry you can jump into orbital mechanics. Hmm, but maybe if you have trouble getting to orbit you should start by looking into momentum and playing around with the various mathematical representations of the systems.
