  • Help needed - Crysis sandbox draw distance

The wiki is still up, so a lot of your questions can probably be answered by sifting through there. http://wiki.crymod.com/index.php/Main_Page

For the terrain detail texture, you can change it's view distance by going into the 'Terrain' tab in the rollup bar > 'Environment' > 'Terrain' > 'DetailViewDistRatio'.

For objects, just click on your brush or entity and in properties window in the rollup bar, change the 'ViewDistRatio' number.

Also, the above problem you're having could have to do with (and I'm guessing it is) various terrain texture bugs in the editor.

It may be a simple matter of going to 'Tools' > 'Reload Textures/Shaders' as well as 'Reload Terrain'. Or, you may need to regenerate your terrain textures, export to engine, save, close the editor and reload your map.

Model your high poly mesh in your 3d package and bake an AO and Normal map from that onto your lowpoly mesh. There's no need to bring it into a sculpting program and using crazybump to generate your normals isn't going to be of much use as the painting is flat (has no surface detail.)

Just find a flat painting like the one on the vase and texture it onto your diffuse in photoshop. The only normal information you want is from the vase itself, not the painting. Though I suppose you could do a crazybump pass from your finished diffuse to get small surface detail, then overlay it on top of your baked normals with the blue channel ticked off. But really, especially if you're going for that clean, restored look as per the reference, the baked normal from the sub-d mesh will be more than enough.

Also look into cube maps, could come in handy on a piece like this

Looking excellent, Glogle. I really like the stylization you've done to it while still sticking to the reference images

Finished it a few days ago. This was one of those rare games that I feel bummed out when I finish because I liked it so much.

Any one tried the co-op without a mic? Also, if any one wants to play with me (no mic):

Didn't know this came out today either. I don't have a console but this game has got me thinking about one. I've read their might be a PC port? Not sure how that experience would be, fighting games are perfect for sitting on the sofa with a couple of friends.

I think the last MK game I played was MK4 for the N64, after that they all looked pretty crap. This one looks like a return to the originals (1-3), don't know if it would be worth buying a console for.

Anyone else notice the Super 8 level in the extras. Pretty cool.

Yeah, had no idea what it was until steam overlay popped up about the movie. I was really interested at first because I thought it was going to be a game...

Only played for an hour last night, Wheatley had me pissing my pants. I don't know how Valve does it, I already know I'm getting my monies worth. Every game of theirs, they're all home runs.

I bet you the actual event is far less... "stellar" than the article makes it out to be.

Thanks everyone, any specifics regarding the more technical aspects such as Warby posted? I don't want to start doing certain things and realize down the road I've been going about it wrong.

Haha, is it that bad? It's not like I've never used the editor before, I just haven't gotten deep into it yet like I want to. Perhaps waiting until Valve releases their updated toolset would be a better option?

I've been wanting to learn Hammer and get familiar with the source engine for some time now, what would you guys recommend I focus on? Aside from the obvious of learning how the editor works. My goal at the moment is to make basic maps with it and eventually throw my own content in it. I'm comfortable with the UDK and CE2 but as an aspiring environment artist, I've never focused on making maps in them, just getting my art in engine and setting up materials, lighting, etc.

Hopefully the question isn't too vague. Perhaps a better way to rephrase it, knowing what you know now, what do you all wish you learned when you first started?

I think getting the windows and doors in there will pull it together, excluding the small details you can add later. Have you tried making the roof more concaved? They're convexed at the moment, which is fine, but giving the silhouette a slightly concaved look may be a better choice.

You mainly using tileable textures for this?

I'll be interested in seeing what both dx11 and the work you guys are doing with it will bring to the game. Patiently waiting until then

Gotta be hardcore to finish PC games.

I think Valve is more concerned with modifying the source engine to suite their games as apposed to being state of the art? Still, it'll be interesting to see what they're doing with source for Ep3.
