Finally got to my house today, wanted to see how long it would take to install on my machine as a buddy of mine bought it yesterday and we waited like an hour and a half before it was time for the third disk. He's on a mac (still not sure what he was on when he made that decision) with an ati card and called me from work to tell me all the problems he's having, such as the texture loading lag etc. Doesn't want to buy another id game again.

Now, onto my experiences with the game. It took about 40 minutes to install, I setup all the configs, drivers, etc to for the highest visuals and booted up the game. I've experienced virtually no texture loading lag, the only reason I ever notice it when it's there is because I was already aware of the issue. It's literrally a fraction of a second if it ever happens and takes nothing away from the game. I'm on a gtx470 with the 8192 textures, 4xantiasliasing, etc with what has to be a constant 60fps. I can't say for sure what my fps is but it's damned smooth and never skips a beat. No tearing or anything, just really awesome performance all around. My card never even goes past 45 degrees.

Regarding the textures them selves, from a distance, especially the canyon rocks and concrete structures, the game looks absolutely stunning. Overall, the guys at id nailed the art be it color, lighting, composition, it's absolutely stellar. Though the color grading is a bit much in some areas for my taste. My only disappointment is how low res everything looks when up close. It's not a huge con for me, I think it helps me focus on the game as well as the art as a whole, instead being amazed at how I can see the wood grain or whatever. Still, prior to release, I wasn't expect such low fidelity on these distances.

Gameplay I can't comment too much on as I've only played for a few hours. I will say that when I exited the game, I was really enjoying the combat and how fluid it felt. Especially with weapons like the Wingstick.

As an added plus, I also received my G930 headset and RAGE sounds flipping awesome. Thanks to Serenius for the tips, btw had very little issues with the drivers and had them up and running in no time.

Simon, really appreciate the tutorials you've been putting out. Glass has kind of been a "murky" subject for me when it comes to it's creation, keep up the awesome work!

Screens would help, don't really have a clear idea of your problem.

The river tool works pretty much exactly like the road tool except for it having to be flat. Just create multiple, smaller rivers if that helps, no need to "stitch" them together (not possible as far as I know.) If noticeable seems between the end/start of a river is a problem, use some rocks/vegetation to cover it up.

    Nice screens, dux.

Just bought it off of newegg (steam charges me tax). Hopefully I don't regret it!!!

In the end though, didn't Ubisoft abandon that DRM-approach?

    Viva la resistance!

nope, and more companies are beginning to use it.

Pretty sure they took it out for AC:BH. I used to get all up in shit about retarded DRM but when STEAM would have a sale, I would throw my ideals out the window and AC2 was one of the best games I've played in a very long time. I honestly don't pay much attention to reviews unless they're legitimately critiquing the game as apposed to technical problems or DRM.

lewl how can a sequel be a port of it's successor? Oh Rick, you make me laugh. SC2 was/is awesome and you know it.

Valve is still making AAA for PC, even if they're making them for the console as well, PC is clearly priority.

Still want this, I'm not paying $60 for it though. Does the game actually look like the screens you posted, HP?

":1n0gek1j]But if i'm not mistaken, you would need a BADASS gfx card, preferably with 3gb VRAM.

You're probably right, didn't really consider that... Hmmmm. I don't know, I really want to buy this but with all of the reported problems, waiting and buying at a lower price seems like a more sensible choice for me.

I'm running it on an i7 930, GTX470, with 8 gigs of RAM so I don't think it's any better than your system. It's most likely not running at 60+ fps for me, though it's enough for it to be smooth and it's constant (there's a drop every know and then when a lot of explosions and crap are going off around me.)

Perhaps a different driver set would help? I'm not too sure but with those specs I don't see any reason why you would be getting such low fps on medium.

So caspian border is pretty flippin awesome. No lag for me, plays smooth on highest settings, pre-order is inevitable.

I agree with everything dux has ever said regarding consoles.

Also, is there really going to be an uber-awesome super high rez texture pack or not? I'm not even going to both if there's not.
