I'm pretty sure it's still Gamebryo, just heavily updated. I remember some podcast back with Todd where he spoke about making several upgrades to "the engine" (such as the animations).

I've got to try the 3DS, it doesn't track your head, you have to look at it from within a certain angle, but the field of view where the 3d works is pretty wide. The 3 cameras is 2 in the back for taking 3d pictures, and one in the front (i guess, i didnt notice it) for videochat or eyetoy kinda games. It's pretty cool, I can't wait for it to come out =)

not to ruin people's expectations, but it seems that comes at a price... 3d camera is a pretty cool thing, however I can't help but think it's not going to be used much once the novelty wears off. hopefully that's just my opinion. it'll have ocarina of time, that's enough reason for me to buy it.

The grind has definitely gotten better, I would slap myself if the 2006-me could read this. I don't mind the non-leveling grind much, it's just that leveling creates a sense of being in purgatory when the activities I usually do (pvping) are separated from it. If the quest-lines were even more focused on quality over quantity (and it is heading that direction) rather than feeling like a time-sink, if the leveling stood on its own legs as an experience for me - I wouldn't mind it at all. I don't think it's the singleplayer in itself that made WoW successful, it's rather the accessibility which can be attributed partly to the singleplayer focus (maybe that's what you meant by it). Then there's timing, Blizzard's polishing and the hardware accessibility. but yeah, lol bad is pretty silly now with the wintrading. however, I did find the peninsula area to be pretty fun.

as for the thread; I just installed planescape torment with a few UI modifications, time to see what the praise is all about.

I like the new questing format, but I enjoy following the storyline. Otherwise it's just a mindless grind, which means I might as well be playing a skinner box like Farmville.

right, but most of the enjoyment people get from MMORPGs takes place after the leveling. the leveling is almost in every case a kind of purgatory the player has to endure until the endgame. if people like the leveling, that's great for them. I still think there's a considerable amount of people who hates that part but still loves the game.

re-playing yoshi's island for SNES. it's incredible how similar this game is to kirby's epic yarn, everything from the transformations to the coins to the stage ending. i don't understand why nintendo haven't put this game on virtual console yet.

The new quest zone design is kind of weird; both factions basically follow the same long chain of quests the whole way through the zone in a linear style. It looks pretty sweet lore wise, especially with the phasing stuff, but I miss most of it delivering and excepting quests at lightning speed then flying vertical upwards to avoid being blown up by alliance. I also can't quest in the underwater zone because I have the might boosh eel song stuck in my head.

The quest flow is weird. If you don't pay attention and miss a quest you might have to use an hour just looking for whatever prereq quest you're missing to continue. If you are like me and don't care about the quest lore (oh god the cutscenes), it can get pretty frustrating when you hit that bump in your progression.

I mean it's your money, but I'd personally wait a month or so if I were in the market for a iPad due to the likely inclusion of a 'retina' display (ie: double the resolution), as I personally think the original iPad's screen is significantly inferior to the iPhone 4's when it comes to sharpness, vibrancy, etc. In fact the iPhone 4 and the iPad have almost the same resolution. It's most probably not too late to return it, so you know...

So the question is whether I want to wait 5 months (max) for a vastly (?) improved screen, and perhaps other worthwhile upgrades. I really don't know. I have ~two weeks to decide until I can't return it any more. I could, like Skjalg said, sell it and buy the next one when it releases. So I guess the question is whether the money lost on that trade is worth having the ipad for 5 months. If I used the Ipad for video I wouldn't hesitate for a second, but considering I'm almost exclusively using it for reading, browsing and mostly text-oriented activities I don't know how much it would benefit me. I'll think about it for a few more days. thanks for the input.

fail. wait until spring. then the new model will come out. it's about time

then wait until next spring and you'll have another one with more upgrades. and i really don't need yet another thing with a camera on it (i heard 3DS will have three cameras, what the hell?). i've had the first iphone since release and still don't see any reason to upgrade it.

Considering trying enslaved for the third time after giving up two times earlier. The level design so far is one thing (distract, move to object, climb, kill, texture finally pops in), but I'm not really having fun with the core gameplay at all. Might just give it up completely as I did with Brutal Legend and instead finish MGS4 again or try K&L.

You should have the played a few months ago before they buffed the planet scanning speed

I'm playing Demon's Souls again. Just finished the Maiden Astraea encounter on my new game+. I'm fairly convinced this game has the best combat system of any RPG, it's what Morrowind and Oblivion should have been like. The story and the storytelling is also pretty amazing.

I liked this game, but am I the only one that was annoyed by the enemies and their bullet sponge tendencies? As a result I played the game on easy, causing it to be...well, too easy. It would be nice if difficulty meant smarter AI and not just more hit points. It ultimately was a choice between the game being either tedious and frustrating or too easy. I also found it interesting how a game that becomes more believable, by good storytelling, is also more vulnerable to some of the dissonance it creates. The conventions (?) are harder to swallow when the game becomes more believable. Which might mean that this kind of game design is the wrong vehicle for the kind of narrative uncharted tries to deliver.

sorry if the last part sounded a bit bs. I'd also like to see more exploration/puzzles and less shooting. It's still one of the best games I've played.

i'm not saying i would, but the choice is there. and that's exactly what a rpg should do: give you the choice.

I don't care if I have hundreds of choices if they're all going to be meaningless. Killing children sounds like one of those meaningless choices.
