urgh the trailer is shot at too high fps or something, it makes it look weird. plus i mean for something like this, why not use properly rendered cgi instead of in-game shots?

Wait, what? You actually want CGI trailers? Booo.

    Also, another trailer.

I know you said not to worry about the environment, but the transition between the building and the ground is very abrupt on the far left and right. Some sort of trim on the bottom, basement windows or the like, would probably help it blend. Maybe planters along the base?

I'd break up those flat roofs on either side with dormers or some kind of trim.

    - If you do decide to jump in and try in person social interaction, make sure you yell across the room, especially if it's a complex subject important only to you and the other person that will require a few minutes of back and forth.

-If there's crunch time, make everyone in the office stay for 'moral support' until the build is out, even if they don't have anything they need to finish for the build. This greatly improves morale.

Holy hell, this is fun. Spent an hour on this last night. Pictionary meets telephone, it's more fun than it sounds. The expected level of dicks and poop, but some of it is hilarious, just seeing what people see in someone else's scrawl.

I'm not sure what it is with helicopters and jets: as soon as I hop in one, instantly shot down by a SAM. I'll fire flares, instantly retargeted and shot down. If I'm the poor bastard on the ground firing the SAM, no kills. Seriously, my stats for the MANPAD SAMs: 223 missiles fired, 4 kills. More than 50 shots to get one kill. .08 kills a minute. I know it's not just kills that matter, but as far as I can tell, I don't even slow the jets down. They don't have to dodge or break off their attack, they just pop flares. There aren't any stats for vehicles disabled, which might be more interesting. Accuracy is about 20%. Am I just using them incorrectly? Tracking a jet, get lock, fire, jet pops flares. Reload, target same jet (if it's even in range still), get lock, he pops flares again. That's if I'm not shot in the meantime.

The only way to get a kill seems to be working together with another engineer with a SAM, which is almost impossible in pub games. You'd have to sync it so the first one fires, jet pops flares, and second SAM fires just after that. Then maybe the missile will reach before he gets flares again.

I'd be happy with just this. Or an easier way to get to the weapon customization screen while in game. Even on PC, it's a (minor) hassle, since it feels like every second messing around in that menu is time I'm not playing the game.

Thanks for all the crits, guys!

However, even if the lighting is "correct", it can still look odd. I think it's a bit dramatic at the moment. I think a strong ambient light with a cool blue shade and some warm, but mild, directional lighting would fit well (you may have to switch sky though). And I think the level could use more local lighting (in/around buildings).

Also, make sure to use that compile command to have texture lighting (useful for fences, can't remember what it is at the moment). As you can see in the second pic, the fences create very blocky lighting at the moment. The rocky areas to the left have some funky shadows too. Lastly, if the grassy area to the left is in an out of bounds area, increase the scaling value of the texture. The repeating pattern will be less noticeable.

Some screens of a Half-Life 2 single player I'm trying to wrap up. Not sure if I like the fog or not, trying to get away from blocky buildings. Crits if have any!

I think EA's thinking is more that they have to draw customers to their service first, and if Origin is the only online place to get it, that could draw more people. But that doesn't really mesh with them offering it through GamersGate and the like, so it's hard to see it as more than sort of a middle finger to Steam. Unless that DLC restriction is really that big of a deal.

I think if we do any multiplayer mapping contests in the future, some sort of semi-official playtesting time before voting opens would be awesome. I guess that doesn't prevent anyone voting from just screenshots anyway, but it seems silly to worry about gameplay when votes go to the prettiest map. We only heard two or three opinions, but it sounded like people that played the maps from the Nightwatch DM contest liked the ones that got the least number of votes. It's just an informal poll, so it's no big deal, but playtests seem like a lot of fun anyway.

I think I might actually have it up! I don't think it's showing up in the server browser, but the IP is x. I can connect to it using that IP. It should be set up with a frag and time limit, with the map list including all the NWDM maps, including the updated nwdm_stack. Download the new version of it if you just downloaded the map pack. Someone try and connect and let me know, I'll hang around for a bit to make sure it's actually working.

The Crossing 'was put "on hold" in May 2009 after the company ran into "an unexpected financial challenge" and decided to focus on smaller projects.' At least, that's what Wiki says. That looked really awesome as well. I'm just excited that it's new IP! And in Austin, woo!
