  • Games to get someone into gaming for the first time?

What sorts of books/movies is your dad into? If we knew the genre giving him a game in the same genre may be a good start.

Action/Thriller mostly. He's into the Godfather, Band of Brothers, James Bond, The Bourne Identity, Ocean's Eleven, Deadwood. That sorta stuff, can't really think of stuff that's comparable in the gaming realm cos mostly they don't have a narrative that's as suspenseful or strong. Perhaps a heist game like Monaco might be up his alley, I'll ask.

So far he's enjoying the Walking Dead, at first I thought it would be too hard but it's surprisingly easy, even when he uses the trackpoint on his laptop! Succes!

I suppose thinking games, management or turn based are a good bet, then building up to real time games in the future.

Any suggestions? Anything like Brain Age for the DS would be ideal I think, he has an Ipad he can play on as well and then my mom can join in as well

I doubt he's into management games, probably reminds him too much of his job haha xD I'm not really into turn based games myself so I can't suggest anything, any ideas?

    TY all!

So my dad dropped this bomb on me. "Son, give me a list of the top games I should be able to play or a curve of games so my motor skills will be good enough for the later ones."

I figured we all come across this along the road some time, maybe a girlfriend, maybe your father in law that doesn't understand what this "game development" is all about and such... So I figured it was worthy of a topic of its own.

So we're talking about "accessible" (+1 for buzzword) games for PC.

So far I'm thinking Limbo although I haven't had great success with other people cos the puzzles get quite hard very fast.

The walking dead is pretty easy and interesting as well but the choices sometimes don't give you a lot of time and you have to react quite fast...

Thomas was alone but that might be a bit too abstract for him...

World of goo could be a winner.

    Any others?

So what's the verdict? Yay or nay? Saw it on reddit the other day and it looks like a lot of fun!

I thought the character designs were pretty interesting. But then they showed the cyborgs and that dude with a machine gun but a pea as a head... Those proportions 8|

I'm just interesting in seeing how the design works in a FPS, probably not gonna play it.

So what's the status of DayZ Standalone these days? Can I go in a just focus on looting towns? I don't mind too much if zeds are still broken and navmesh is shit, I just wanna go in and find goodies! Does that work? Or should I still stay away because of other reasons?

Steam Sales in a nutshell: I was looking at today's deals and saw Scribblenauts which looked pretty cool but I wasn't a 100% sure I should get it, after 5 minutes of watching reviews I finally was like: Fuck it, I'll get it. So I clicked on "buy" and noticed I already have it...

Probably got it from another sale, lol

Pretty much. That's a great song. The movie actually left me feeling uneasy.

Yup, it's probably the acting of that Dr. very psycho

And I thought both the zombie and sentionaut without the helmet was totally unnecessary...

    Beyond the Black Rainbow

As an audiovisual experience it's quite good! The pacing and story are kinda off though, it's definitely style over substance.

In all honesty I think it's probably enough to just watch the following soundtrack clip and you prolly soaked in 90% of what the movie is about

Gratz man that's a nice improvement!

If you're serious about ever going back I think there's a time limit of a couple of years, might have to google a bit how Belgian Uni's handle a hiatus?

Just goes to show how diluted the Steam library is these days... Just crappy releases apparently cos so far I seem to own everything I want already from the other sales

My "unplayed" list is longer than my "played" one xD

Doing an MGS 1–4 marathon soon in preparation for MGS5, which will probably just about be out by the time I get through them, lol.

Might need to play Peace Walker as well! I didn't know it was canon so when I read the "what happened before" in MGS V: GZ I got everything spoiled haha!

Dunno what to do really cos I have it lying around in the HD collection... Should I just go play that one first despite having read all the spoiler text or should I just continue with MGS V: GZ and not give a fuck?

Reviews please! Like Furyo did. Really conflicted whether or not to start this. Would be appreciated.

You're supposed to play games you buy on Steam? Aw shit... I've been doing it wrong all along!

But seriously, lots of work and GF now so I barely have time anymore which is good and bad I guess So not sure I'll be able to play it soon :/

Thief is at 50% on Steam and it was apparently already at a reduced price so it's only €15... WTF? Game came out only a couple of months ago Bought it obviously.

Trying to expand my card game collection with some lighter titles to play with people that aren't so into games cos I can never convince people to play Netrunner with me Mainly looking for games that take about 30 mins or are pretty easy to learn. Recently got this one and it's super much fun! The cards are made from transparent plastic which has some intricate gameplay mechanics as a result.

I had to take out a couple of cards from the deck cos they were OP or just too random in a 2 player match but other than that it seems to have a good balance of tactics and luck.

The world of Gloom is a sad and benighted place. The sky is gray, the tea is cold, and a new tragedy lies around every corner. Debt, disease, heartache, and packs of rabid flesh-eating mice—just when it seems like things can't get any worse, they do. But some say that one's reward in the afterlife is based on the misery endured in life. If so, there may yet be hope—if not in this world, then in the peace that lies beyond.

In the Gloom card game, you assume control of the fate of an eccentric family of misfits and misanthropes. The goal of the game is sad, but simple: you want your characters to suffer the greatest tragedies possible before passing on to the well-deserved respite of death. You'll play horrible mishaps like Pursued by Poodles or Mocked by Midgets on your own characters to lower their Self-Worth scores, while trying to cheer your opponents' characters with marriages and other happy occasions that pile on positive points. The player with the lowest total Family Value wins.

I remember last year some were unhappy that the city didn't have as much color and had a lot of contrast akin to Battlefield (looking at you HP). Totally agreed with that so I'm glad we can finally show that's not the case God damn I hate NDA's, I AM SO EXCITED.
