I would not hesitate if the French Government was giving away houses in the countryside ahahah.

I had some sort of alternative idea too. When I left ubisoft, my plan was to build a place outside of a big city where I could have a small game dev team but also space to have additionnal people working there like local freelancers, etc. A coworking place next to our game dev studio, and possibly welcoming some kind of game art residence there in greenlands. Sure the place would have a common food forest and a crop garden for people working there.

Sounds awesome, the dream. Can you send me some of your riches please so I can do this.,

Looks incredible, day 1 purchase. Look at that thing anyone on here who thinks that doesn't look GOOD needs their eyes examined and their IQ tested.

Yeah that's true, maybe I'm assuming the kind of people they hire though. If they are good hires for the kind of roles they have then accountability shouldn't be an issue. If you are highly motivated you can be accountable to yourself.

Yes, it's more comfortable and you can avoid the commute, but at the same time it creates so many opportunities to fuck up your schedule. There's no pressure to be on time because you just have to get out of bed. And that's a bad thing because work now blends into your off time. There's no buffer or transition period. I've got a room separate than my bedroom that acts as an office, but it's not the same thing. There's been some mornings where I literally woke up 5 minutes before some meetings. Even if you're fairly independent as a person and in your tasks, you can find yourself slowly drifting off course.

After the initial 2 month lockdown, I went back to the office and pretty much worked from there the entire summer. And while there were only 3-4 people on my floor, it made a huge difference. Just being able to go outside for a break and have some small talk face to face with people. That's a good opportunity for ideas to flow freely.

I can understand that being the case for some people. But that isn't the kind of studio Valve runs, people work in very small pods or just entirely independently there from my understanding. The issue of motivating yourself in their case is always true, so I have to assume that is factored into their normal productivity. Working from home doesn't change much where they work slower because they can't collaborate or communicate if that is minimal to start with. Its especially odd that their productivity drop is higher than studios that do rely on collaborative environments and teamwork more.

That's actually strange that he says it "much lower productivity", I think most studios are having lower productivity, "much" lower suggests a sizable amount, like 30-40% to me (which is a really high drop compared to what I think most people are experiencing). Given valve doesn't really make anything and people can work on whatever they want, that they only hire pretty experience and independent people, I would expect valve to have little to no drop in productivity. The less you require people to collaborate the less your productivity should be dropping.

A bit of a shame they havent fixed the whole library thing. If a console wants to go digital only, which they evidently both do. They need to change how they display games that you have bought, not just showing installed games in a linear list with all bought games hidden away in a thing somewhere. Games library > social apps etc

Agreed, I have a category in steam called "Completed not finished" for games that im done with but i didnt 100% or finish a full campaign of.

As soon as a game is bought it goes in my favorites so its at the top, when that list is too long I don't buy anything. When im done with the game it gets categorized and removed from favorites.

I basically just buy games during the sales, buy 6-8 games, that will last me 3-4 months. Then next sale. Easy. Occasionally buy something outside the sales.

I'm not saying they couldn't make it look nicer, I just find it odd that how it looks is so big a factor that it makes you not want to buy it at all. You buy a console to play games on it, if the games are amazing then that presumably should be the overriding factor.

Wait your going to choose a piece of hardware for how it looks sitting in your living room (where you can literally just put it behind the TV) and not for the games on it?

I use my Steam link over LAN too, really depends on the game, wifi usage and other wifi signal things, sometimes I get lag sometimes its perfect.

Played local coop Guacamelee 2 , Darksiders Genesis, and other relatively fast paced games without problems most of the time.

Less of the bullshit parts of eco sims like balancing peoples needs constantly when you want to expand, ie

    1. I want to progress to the next resource type etc,
    2. so i need more people,
    3. so i need more products for that type of person,
    4. so i need more low level factories for those goods etc etc.

Its an endless loop. In factorio the only resource that you have to increase to grow is power and occasionally a new patch of ores, which is easy to increase. So you get to expand and progress regularly.

Currently trying to play a death world which is basically with insanely aggressive enemies that constantly grow. You have to progress fast to get good defences and then rank up your military stuff faster than the enemies evolve and become more powerful. Its really fucking hard, have failed 2x so far. Not sure how many more times I'll try.

That is true if your gamemode switches teams at half time.

In something like traditional domination or capture the flag where there is no half time team switch being balanced 50-50 is generally important.
