What's your favorite not fun game? Mine's Pathologic.

    Passage

I'm a very self-tempered and joyful person. It's really hard to get me upset, or sad.

That being said. Passage really made me feel melancholic and sad for a couple of days. And it left a bad taste in my mouth the instant I was done with it.

I still play it from time to time.

The gameplay is shallow and unrewarding. The message, for me, was very intense.

But that's only because it's so personal. Bioshock and Half Life still deeply amaze me in the complexity and peculiarities of their universes in a similar manner as 1984 or Lord of the Rings. Another game that had a deep impact for me was Shadow of the Colossus

    Quote

: It was personal. Or when

at the end of episode two.

The difference from the episodes I described above about HL2:ep2 and SotC is that their gameplay is stellar compared to Passage. Just because a game "wants to be a message" does not imply that gameplay comes secondary.

Gameplay is paramount to games. Good gameplay will inevitably lead to fun. Games stripped of gameplay are not games. Games that aren't fun aren't games. They may as well be "interactive experiences", but are not games. If their objective is to convey a message, they are a medium, as much as the toilet used by Duchamp was simply a medium for the message of Duchamp's fountain. But you wouldn't say that Duchamp's fountain is a sculpture, much like I would not call Passage a game.

They're both entertaining and pretty games, but as art, they fail. The message of Bioshock is that you should murder people with weapons and magic powers, then kill a puppy or save a puppy for the same reward, then kill a big blue guy at the end. The message of HL2 is that you should kill soldiers and monsters, and use the gravity gun to hit people with toilets. You're a violent mute sociopath in all these games -- that is the narrative because that is what you're doing for 99% of the time, and that's the only thought process required to play. There's nothing wrong with that, but don't insult art by suggesting those games function as art (or better than art) because they don't.

You are saying that the message and narrative of a game are solely based on the game play actions of the player?

As in, Shadow of the Colossus's message is that you should climb and murder the biggest animals you can find?

It's like saying that the message of every book to date is that you gain knowledge by turning square paper pieces bound to a hard cover over and over again while looking at the printed ink markings. That's what you do 99% of the time.

I often enough leave silver stuff behind. I can barely manage to transport the more precious stuff out of a big dungeon even tho i have the perk that allows me to carry 100 more and i only use light armor on myself. As soon as i have the achievement for 100k gold i will not bother anymore with regular items unless they are useful for me.

One thing that I found out was really heavy are dragon bones, standing at 15pounds a piece. Since they sit on the Misc. table and you get a bunch of them for each dragon slain, it can be quite a burden to carry.

Really ? I read that a lot of stuff have change. I'm a bit fanboy about Heroes, I want to test it before buy.

I'll check it today I'll let you know. I'm a HOMM3 fanboy BTW

I'm also HOMM3 fanboy here... HOMM 5 was a huge step back towards it from HOMM 4, but not nearly as close...

I'm very interested to hear how has HOMM VI turned out.

    Hey man!

Sorry for not actually giving any useful feedback on the material itself, but the complexity of the test geometry is very distracting. You have several oval and square indents and protusions that just look messy. Try to make a cleaner "test piece" so you can focus your work on the shader and avoid a lot of confusion that might arise from the odd shapes of the metal plate.

What shader are you using? One of Unity's built-in shaders?

Don't forget all the MMO and f2p games as well, they have HUGE publics. Stuff like Priston Tale, Combat Arms, League of Legends... they may not be the kinds of games we over here appreciate, but they definately count.

I like the picture of a 360 controller on my pc manual.

It's a fully compatible PC peripheral, don't know what you are talking about.

Or do you really need to know that W is forward and S is backwards?

Now I think that they stole the design for it, but not the actual model/textures.

It could have been that one of their artists was tasked to reproduce the asset and given your model sheet as the reference, and he copied it 1:1 instead of using it as inspiration, or that the artist in question actually decided to copy it and hope no one would notice.

I prefer to think its case 1, in witch case you guys should contact them and ask that they remove the assets or pay you royalties... if they refuse then go further down the rabbit hole.

At that time I was living in my aunt's house and tried to occupy as little space as I could with all my stuff. As you can see I setup shop in the attic back then. I live in my own apartment now so things aren't as crammed as they used to be.
