(for example, there's a hat that offers a +25 health bonus and it cannot be obtained through trading or crafting)

That's not true, the +25 health bonus comes from having the whole scout set, not only the hat (so the bonus comes with drawbacks of it's own, since you must use the milk/fish/pistol). Also, the tags not tradeable/not craftable apply only to purchased items, you cannot use purchased items to craft other items and you cannot trade them, but you can still craft those items from drops and they can still be obtained on the random drops.

Great as usual man, but one nitpick I have is having both the game logo and name in there, it's kind of redundant

For your portfolio I'd keep the logos and drop the game name on the tab under, since they look awesome.

  • Visibility table export?

    • arhurt
    • October 1, 2010 at 7:59 PM

    Hey guys!

Is there any way I can calculate the PVS of my scene in max and export the resulting visibility table?

I'm afraid this is something that you would need hard coded in the engine, but unity's vis-culling is not that good yet =/ so I'm looking for an external application that can output the table for network optimization purposes.

Otherwise I'll have to create the vis-areas and portals myself, but they would be far inferior to actually using the level geometry for such.

But yeah man, with your portfolio and good looks, you will have no problem finding a job soon

    Best of luck man!

Same with Dungeons and Dragon online. once you purchase something it's yours forever (aside from potions and magic wands) but everything was very cheap and it allowed for a lot of people to access the game before investing any money in it.

As far as what Valve is doing, I see it as just another way to get your stuff. As far as they don't make pay-exclusive stuff it's ok by me.

They do alter the gameplay, but honestly the bonuses they give are not that great and you can still get them without paying via trading/crafting/random drops.

Oh and before we get to that argument (that we will) I believe microtransactions are a valid way to fund a game if done well. What Turbine did with Dungeons and Dragon Online is a great example.

As for Valve charging for the items? Again, you can still get the items via other means, it's just another option.

It all starts with the polypack update: http://www.teamfortress.com/post.php?id=4410&p=1

Details on the FAQ here: http://www.teamfortress.com/mannconomy/FAQ/

Not only will players be able to purchase in-game items with real money, but modders will be able to profit from their items being sold in the game. I see great potential on this, and Valve never stops to amuse me.

I can just see this expanded into other valve games soon, as well as being offered as part of the steamworksplatform.

So what do you guys think?

I think it's pretty awesome if they keep it as is promised (you can still get everything the old-fashioned way). I see this has the potential to become a tool for indie developers who use steamworks to have yet another option for funding their games – if and when it gets offered like that.

I really appreciate the improvements Valve is putting on steam. Mac support, steamplay, the add-on feature on L4D2 and now this.

I still got over 4000 blocks of stone left now that I don't know what to spend on. I will probably build a big extension on one side and then a massive underground bunker or something.

The boat floats on water and is directed by the water flow. If you build a two-way water flow, like this, you can make that system:

HP, It's already been done, I built a second stone screen in front of the first one leaving a gap so the lava can flow down between them. But it carries a special message for a special someone and until said person has seen it it shall remain a secret

But it looks fantastic, it backlits the message and during the night the lack of light sources behind the screen hide it quite well, so it is really only revealed at the very end
