How about the plot, then? The same city?General ScreenshotThe setting, the character, the story, the features – anything related to the actual content of the game, we cannot discuss for now. What I can say is that people are going to be very happily surprised and impressed. I think that we've put our finger on a number of things. Innovation and originality will be important, and I think it's going to serve this great franchise very well. Even though it's a franchise that we last saw five years ago, we're going to bring a fresh look and a fresh approach. We're always respecting the history and the spirit of the game, but innovation will definitely be quite interesting.

Is it fair to say that Thief 4 is going to pay attention to the spirit of the previous Thief games, but perhaps not the mechanics so much, then?

(Pause) We'll see about that! (Laughs) Sorry, Tim. I wouldn't say it in those words, but the moment that we have more information, we'll relay it over.

This is going to explode heads

I'm willing to bet a respectable portion of that is brand loyalty. "Made by the Hitman guys? Hell yes brah!"

I don't get why everyone has such a problem with Thief 3's level sizes. The individual chunks weren't too bad, and the level loads were fast that I just didn't care at all. Sure, it's preferable to have one singular level for the entire mission so you can have a more non-linear path, but the museum level in Thief 3 had that fine despite being split into segments, with the back wing in a separate level but with multiple connections between the front all over the place.

They should just go for a subtitle or something. Numbered sequels are totally lame, everyone knows that. Especially when you get to numbers beyond "2".

Then you really are broken in the head.

Thief 1's level design sucked compared to Thief 2's, and wasn't nearly as atmospheric, and Thief 3 has the captain's mansion, Shalebridge Cradle, and being able to wander around and engage in my persona favorite gaming past-time of playing with broken AI to its advantage. Thief 2 > Thief 3 > Thief 1.

It's good, and it brings Garrett's story to a pretty good conclusion.

In particular, the levels where you're at the seaside mansion of a dead ship captain, and the famous Shalebridge Cradle are really great levels and need to be experienced.

Also Thi4f is a retarded logo concept. Come the fuck on.

[Blocked Image: http://nofrag.com/images/004339.jpg]I don't get the scale in this picture, the monstertruck is about the same size as a house window. So either the monstertruck is really small or the town is really big

Those windows are huge. I didn't notice it until you pointed it out, though.

If you ignore those windows and compare the truck to the front porches of the street between the houses it's proper scaled.

Naming a monster truck "Mighty Foot" is pretty funny. I wonder how many of those levels were trashed before the 3dR ever closed, though.

Well obviously he did stuff before DNF started, he was the voice of Duke in Duke 2 (for the one single VO'd line in the game)!

Nope, still good. Haven't posted or looked at 3DR's forums in at least two years, though.

I actually didn't have an opinion beyond "Commander Keen is neat" about Joe Siegler (he's got keen as his forum av, or at least he did in 2006), but after 3DR died all the stories about him, pictures of him from back in the day, and videos of him playing with action figures around the offices surfaced in the discussions about it. Hilarious stuff.

And everything I posted above describing Joe Siegler is 100% true. He describes himself as the 3DR gofer in his own resume. Among his duties at 3DR were refilling the soda machines and coffee machines, burning CDs, and doing anything and everything Broussard and Miller wanted.

I didn't make it (I would've if I had the shop skill though, using just the Broussard pic from the farewell group shot), I just reposted it because it owns.

Joe Siegler is a big manchild who spent the entirety of 3dR's existence being a gofer and office bitch, insulting fans and enforcing political views on the forums, playing with action figures, and running fansites for baseball teams and metal bands. Making fun of him is just good wholesome fun.

Edit: You do realize that's George Broussard on the left, right? That's him from when Apogee first spawned 3DR.

I mentioned Halo 3 because I remember when it came out, they promised a PC version coming soon after. Believe it or not, there are some people that played Halo on PC, like my little sister. She still bugs me to reinstall Halo 2 on her machine every time she gets a virus or worm off limewire and wipes her computer.

Way better then being canceled, besides knowing MS it's just a temp exclusive. We've waited 13 years, what 1 or 2 more. Though it would be a spit in the face of all those PC gamers that have waited for so long.

    So meh whatever.

Halo 3's been out two years without the PC version coming. MS doesn't give the slightest fuck about PC anymore.

A list of possible events leading to 3DR's death based on the little bits of info and rumors spreading around, quoted from Duke4.net

    Quote

    1. George and Scott own equal parts of 3D Realms.2. DNF taking forever to make costs tons of money.

    3. Scott who is arguably the smarter businessman gets tired of this over time and doesn't want to dump his money into it anymore.

    4. Scott looks to other things like Radar Group and newly launched Apogee Software LLC and leaves 3D Realms in Georges hands.

    5. Scott is still technically a manager at 3D Realms but is effectively done with 3D Realms at that point.

    6. Scott is now free to run companies as he sees fit without dealing with a 50% partner.

    7. A year or so later George wasn't able to handle it, especially with lack of Scott's personal and financial cooperation.

    8. Eventually funds begin to run low.

    9. Since Scott is out, and so is money, George drives out to California to show Take 2 the game in an attempt to wow them into funding development to finish DNF.

    10. Vague references were made to Take 2 possibly having (verbally) promising money, but didn't deliver.

    11. When George requested the $5 million from Take 2 so DNF development could be funded.

    12. Take 2 counter-offered with giving 3D Realms $30 million instead.... *IF*3D Realms sells all rights to the Duke IP. (currently Take2's only has publishing rights)

    13. George\They refuse this and keep the Duke IP, instead shutting down the company and going on life support.

    14. The purpose of not selling the IP is because the Duke IP still has the potential to make money, and it is their trademark. It would be like iD selling the Doom IP.

    15. George is said to have previously went to iD Software and Epic in an attempt to make a deal with funding for them, but is turned down.

    16. ..was also said to still have plans to contact other companies to make similar requests.

    17. A company in a better position to spend $5 million, such as EA or Microsoft are seen as the most likely candidates for possibly investing in saving DNF.

Well the big hits in the UK I've heard about, at least on PC (lol mmos, browser RPGs, and flash games) are Empire: Total War and football manager, I'd imagine those earn some fairly low ratings.

Hearing fans whine about Thief 4 while knowing absolutely nothing about it is prety funny. The impression is that they don't want it in the future, or to be the same old thing, or to be just another story tacked on to Garrett but Garrett's voice actor BETTER come back! And pretty much whenever Thief 4 comes up, PC vs console arguments follow because of the blame of Thief 3's problems on the Xbox.

I really liked IOA's concept for Thief 4 of having it be set in a more modern time of the same universe, despite how horrified most fans were. I imagine it actually playing like Hitman except you're robbing the place blind instead of killing someone, and there's magic.

Can you give us some details about the next Hitman game? It’s being worked on, but there’s been no announcement on the release date yet. We haven’t even announced the game yet, so everything you hear about the next Hitman game is purely speculation at this point.

Will it be IO Interactive working on this one as well?

Yes, it’s IO Interactive. They’re making Hitman, Kane and Lynch and also Mini Ninjas; all at the same studio.

It's refreshing to hear a game company big wig be so nonchalant about secrets and unannounced projects.

If Hitman 5 continues the trend of improvement from Contracts -> Blood Money this just might be the very best game ever made.

    Other interesting quotes:

    Quote

Is Kane and Lynch 2 on schedule for release this year? There’s a target date for September, but as you understand, these games often slip because the production times are so difficult to predict due to the amount of work they have to put into them now in high-end consoles. It’s a tough business.

    Quote

We’re also looking at the possibility of a television animated series based on Mini Ninjas.

    Quote

Eidos Montreal are currently working on Deus Ex 3, and they’ve announced that they’re working on a secret second project.Yes, they are.

    Could that be Thief IV?

You might think that; I couldn’t possibly comment.

Okay, do you plan to release another Thief game in the future?

Well, we did some research on all our franchises and the one that was most wanted was Thief. So you might want to draw your own conclusions, but I cannot confirm that.

Seriously, now it's 100% confirmed that 3dr have gone down the shitter I have to say im incredibly dissapointed in George and Scott. I mean 12 years, 7 fucking years since the engine swap, and all they have to show for it is a bunch of out dated, generic looking corridors and bland uninsipred artwork?! It's a beyond a joke tbh.I've seem more inspiring stuff from amature mod projects and graduate portfolios, I mean I could have created a fucking game on my own in half that time. I think the whole thing is a case of serious incompetence and a careless attitude.

What grates me most is how George and Scott have the nerve to pose for photos after all of this with all bigs smiles after their 12 years of fuck-ups lost them a company and made a whole bunch of people unemployed i'll never know! ('photo in question: [Blocked Image: http://cache.gawker.com/assets/images/kotaku/2009/05/3d_realms_goodbye.jpg])

Absolutely unacceptable in my opinion and the only positive thing to come out of all this is that Scott and George are finished in the industry. They'll go down as the laughing stock of game development.

This is probably the best thing that happened to to the Duke Nukem franciase since 1997 imo

They went out drinking right before that pic, also George is the cow sitting front and center lol

I think the happy looking guys are happy to be free from this project and moving on to something real. I imagine having George as a boss would totally suck. "We're not gonna clamp down on you and rush you or anything man, total artistic freedom, design is law etc, oh but all that stuff you made is shit, I'm deleting it, redo it redo it redo it"
