Haha wow, didn't notice that guy. Looks like his giant forehead was caved in by a baseball bat
Either that or his entire face has been scrunched down unnaturally into the bottom 1/2 of his head

That's one weird looking Helicopter in #7.
Valve don't dictate prices, the publisher does. It's Activision/THQ/etc who decide to price the game with the same number but different currency.
Modern Warfare 2 on Steam, if you're in Australia, is $89. Not 89 Australian dollars, which would still be 81 US dollars at the current exchange rate, but 89 US dollars straight out.
....
I'm eager to find out if even one single person in AU buys the game on PC.
IW guy stressing the importance of the way PC multiplayer is traditionally done, the relationship with the hardcore community, the ability to alter the game, and a clear understanding between the community and the game makers, from a video just before the release of COD4.
From what I've heard that guy has in fact left IW and been drawn into the greater Activision organism to work on "Special projects". ![]()
Quote":388y71o9]Does anyone felt the urge to pirate this game now? No, srsly... Isn't that what IW is looking for? An excuse for people to pirate it? Because the more workarounds people find to fight piracy, the more they encourage it.Oh well... tbh, I'm not really interested in the MP of MW2. I mean, I know it will be good, I know a lot of people will play it, and I might even give it a try. But, for some reason, It's the SP I'm reeealy excited about. So I guess the one thing I can really be mad, is the price. It's like they know it will be a GOTY or something, and they are charging full price and extra... guess what IW dudes, all your titles have been GOTY's so far, but I have my doubts about this one, for some reason.
and about that dedicated server prob thingie... I'll sum it up..

yeah
When a game doesn't interest me, it doesn't suddenly mean I want to torrent it ![]()
That image would be so much better without the subtitles in the image themselves, the imagery of a car pileup vs cheers is self explanatory, though personally I would've used a Hurricane Katrina refuge camp instead of the traffic.
Edit: Or maybe the slum from Session 9, see, we PC gamers are the poor advanced lifeforms marooned on this console gamer's world ![]()
Quote from Senturathat's right, stick it to the man! i mean, when was the last time developers were on the side of the gamers?
people seriously need to think for themselves sometimes...
I don't see how this is "on the side of the gamers", and I am thinking for myself, I'm thinking to myself I've always had infinitely more fun finding a regular server with a regular crowd when I play online multiplayer games than when I join random games I don't know to try them out, and not being able to do that, to have a main, central "home" server to play on where I can trust a certain quality of game, severely kills my interest in a game. I never, ever would've played Team Fortress 2 as long as I did if it weren't for the Lost Continents servers, if every day when I loaded TF2 I had to scan down the server browser to find a server that wasn't 24/7 2fort instant respawn party mode achievement server, with a decent ping and player count, instead of just clicking the Favorites tab, then clicking the LC server with the least amount of players.
I also know that with my playing skills and habits I perform better and thus have more fun the more packed a server is. I kill more (while dying about the same
) when I'm one of fifty instead of one of sixteen.
I'm still on the "OH GOD" bandwagon until I hear a better reason for no dedicated servers available on the side besides that ridiculous" bifurcate the community" line. Sorry compoSITe!
Quote from DICEBattlefield was born on the PC, it grew up with dedicated servers and even when it left the nest and became multiplatform it remembers it's roots. We're doing the PC version of BC2 right. We won't stomach a console port tossed off to some "lesser" studio like our competitors chose to do. We've got our top PC devs working on the PC version side by side with the console team. We don't do ports. It's not the game we'd want to play, and we know it's not the game you want to play either.
Haha. Shitting all over IW's PR.
Funny how he trumps out the whole match-making thing while ignoring that that isn't the issue, it's dedicated servers vs. listen servers. With dedicated servers and a browser you might find some bad ones but by and large there's gonna be plenty of stable, consistent servers with generous player caps and a regular community. Meanwhile, with matchmaking and games hosted by players, you get a much smaller player cap, much less consistent performance, and every once in a while the game will completely stop and wait for the game to migrate to another player, whoopie. The only excuse given for why there can't be matchmaking and an option for dedicated servers is one of the most bullshit statements ever, "We don't want to bifurcate the community". Yeah, why split a community when you can just prevent them from existing at all! Genius!
http://gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/ ... ponse.aspx
Bifurcate the community hahahaha jesus, was it REALLY a great idea to troll the lost customers to add insult to injury? Really?
Also love the smarmy asshole writing of the GI reporter, and the accusations that the majority of the complaints are coming from people who rent servers.
360 and Wii are actually way easier to mod than last gen, both can be done easy with softmodding. I was still hearing about people having to sauter (however you spell it) in custom chips to pirate Xbox games way late into that console's life.
Now, on the Wii, running pirate games is as easy as an SD card, some programs you can download for free on the internet, and a HD to stick the games on.
PC pirate numbers get hugely inflated by non-customers, people in non-markets who the game's not even being sold to, teenagers, etc.
I really think, in terms of real profit potential, not straight retail sales figures or sales vs pirates copies or anything, just straight up money spent vs money made, I gotta listen to the Stardock, Paradox, and Valve guys. PC's worldwide appeal and the internet's cheap and easy, long-lasting, widespread availability means PC games have MORE potential, not less.
Sims 2 sold more copies on PC alone, only counting retail, than Modern Warfare did on every platform, plus those dozens of expansion packs and "stuff packs" ![]()
![]()
Edit: Hell, Half-life 2 probably did too, it sold 6.5 mil copies but that's not counting Steam or the orange box.
I'm pretty sure it has nothing at all to do with piracy and everything to do with putting the game in a closed, tightly controlled system so they can advertise and sell DLC and sunset MW2 when MW3 comes out.
I haven't seen a paintball mode in an fps since the N64!
Console focused games don't get modding communities, modders = by and large PC fanboys. The only reason UT3 got any is people hoping to win Make Something Unreal/get jobs by having Ued experience.
