Any official word on if changing your FOV and or adding console etc. will ban you? I'd hate to loose my Steam account.

If IW forgot to cheat restrict certain console commands (which would certainly explain how there are hacks already), then nothing would happen at all. If they did, either you'd get kicked from the server or your changes couldn't stick if you used the console.

There's pretty much no way in hell VAC itself would ban you for using the console. It's for detecting external programs modifying the game for wallhacks/aimbots/etc, not someone trying to enter godmode in the console

How bout you tweak it to support dedicated servers!

ok stop doing this, mapcore is a forum with a lot of industry professionals and one of the rare places where you can actually talk to them. Stop posting like angry 15 year olds on steamforums or whatever. This thread is really becoming ridiculous

Gloglebag's post wasn't balanced for arguing, I think he was just poking fun

We are having some problems with NAT settings and getting peeps into game but we are working on some tweaks that should make it better.

The day one buyers posting about their experiences trying to forward ports and enable upnp and stuff to get MW2 MP working have been pretty hilarious. Lots of jokes about how that's SO MUCH EASIER than using a server browser.

It makes me pretty appreciative for stuff like W:ET and TF2 that works out of the box. The only times I've ever actually needed to forward a port were to get a Doom source port's online coop working (soooo worth it, omg).

Could be pressure from retailers or maybe the margin for Activision is higher when the copy is sold in a brick and mortar store than when distributed over Steam or...

There's no way on Earth Valve takes a bigger slice than Walmart + the cost of physically printing and distributing copies.

I wonder about that Steam lock thing. It's not actually locked for all PC buyers, just people who bought it from Steam- retail copies can be activated IN steam and work right away, which is totally gay.

So I want to know what would be the reason for this. Walmart pressure? Trying to artificially boost the sale figures of the PC version since NPD numbers don't count digital distro? Spite?

A lot of people like to point fingers at Gamestop but any company listening to Gamestop about anything PC related would have to be literally retarded, since most of their stores don't even stock PC games at all anymore, since they can't be sold used. At my local Gamestop if you ask for PC games they'll offer to order them online and have them shipped to the store for you, at extra cost. What great service!

    The default FOV is 65

Saw a scan of the manual's control page which claims the game actually DOES have a console, but then someone else claimed that they just copied that stuff without editing it from COD4, so the jury's still out if this game is completely unplayable or not.

If an entire server full of players can't stop one guy from getting 25 kills in a row, then they probably deserve to be nuked. I don't think it's going to be all that common.

He only needed to get 11 kills for that Chopper Gunner killstreak that ended up with him killing the entire enemy team over and over again. I'm far more bothered by how powerful that chopper event was.

I think 90% is a bit high for the average on when pirates can get updates. For the vast majority of games for example each new patch has to have the .exe re-cracked to work. A friend of mine downloaded Torchlight because he's currently traveling, so his credit card address and current location don't match, so he can't actually buy anything online. He's been complaining that he can't patch the game.

    Well, that's multiplayer fucked.

The fact that killing the entire team in a 10 second span is common enough in MW2 to merit the game celebrating that it happened is seriously mindblowing.

So what exactly was the other team supposed to do once the guy playing in the video got the helicopter? From what I've heard shooting the guy's character as he's controlling the helicopter doesn't take him out of it, he just respawns once that section of helicoptering is done with. I can't help but think that'd be so terribly demoralizing that a lot of players would actually just quit and find a different game under those circumstances >_>

":18j8gi2d]Industry gossip! I just don't think this kind of topics fits mapcore, this kind of stuff is not why people visit mapcore for.

Who cares what "people visit mapcore for" compared to "people post on mapcore feel like posting about this in the sub-forum in which it fits"? I mean, the biggest thread in Off-topic is about "things you bought". Do people visit mapcore to read what other people have purchased? I would think most of the forums outside the "Employment" and "Creative" sections don't really serve a purpose of attracting visitors compared to entertaining and interacting with current users.

I think legal/copyright issues regarding games and game IP are really interesting topics, ones worth discussing.

What did Derek smart say because to be quite honest I cannot be bothered to read that huge wall of text.

Refusing to help Steam spread by selling a game that requires Steamworks is closing the barn door after horse escaped, and all they're accomplishing is hurting themselves by giving Steam the sale of the game itself as well as the burden of supporting it on its network. Releasing a game on Steam has by far the lowest technical requirements of the publisher because the only actual requirement for Steam integration into a product is auto-updating support, basically, while all the other DRM networks except GOG have a limited list of available DRM schemes you MUST use, for example SecuROM on Gamersgate and Direct2Drive- Steam will let you publish a game completely without DRM, just with Steamworks auto-updating and nothing else changed from the basic videogame. If the other Digital Distro platforms want to actually compete with Steam, they need to start being better in some aspect or targeting adifferent market, and right now the only thing any of them (except GOG) can hold over Valve's head is not needing their client to be running to play, which means nothing to 99% of PC gamers who are already using Steam, talking with their friends and joining groups in Steam Community, adding all their non-steam stuff to their steam games list anyway, etc.

Of course, this whole discussion is ignoring the crowd who doesn't even know any of these services exist and play their online games on Popcap and Big Fish, but that's another issue

Btw, does anybody know how the situation with DRM on MW2 is like? Not that I'd buy it anyway.

    Afaik, Steamworks CEG.

Also I watched some more MW2 videos, and it actually starts looking like a good game once it gets past the Airport scene. The first level of Act 2 in particular, holy shit. One of the best set pieces I've ever seen in an FPS, right up there with the White Forest defense from the end of ep2.

Also the videos of the game as a whole, including cutscenes and end credits, top out at four hours and seven minutes. Remember the huge backlash against Terminator: Salvation for being four hours long, guys?

Interesting to hear that someone tried this in the games business (with success). I've heard of independent movie makers who boosted publicity and sales of their works by spreading them in p2p networks before.

I think this is something that helped Paranormal Activity, the film festival screener of it has been available for about two years on torrent sites even though the movie just came out, and they relied on that whole "Demand it!" system to determine in what markets to release it. The publicity from people illicitly seeing the movie and spreading the word almost surely helped out that process.

Note the subtle differences in the Steam implementation for MW2 as opposed to other games that require Steam like Dawn of War 2, Zeno Clash, and Saint's Row 2, and they are as follows:

PS Read the comment by Derek Smart to that article (it's only like the second or third one and it's super long so you can't miss it). First time I've ever felt like that guy knew anything about anything

How difficult would you say it is for a non-coder to pick up the scripting in unreal?

The extent of my ability to program in a real coding language is making a command prompt-based random number generator, but I have absolutely no problem reading and editing existing Uscripts to get what I want. It's really pretty clearly laid out when you read a script, so long as you know the entity names and can keep track of basic syntax.

I did the same thing, but last christmas.

Lol, we had two "rail" shooter section in COD1....the PC one.

The one in the car, early on in the US missions, was one of my favorite on rails sections of any otherwise not on rails games... until I tried to play it on Veteran. Harder difficulty modes break a whole lot of COD1 (In retrospect my reaction to realizing Veteran deletes all the health packs, halfway through the first level, was pretty funny ), but the levels where you can't hide and slow way down and be super ultra cautious get it the worst. The one where you're in the truck with the few rocket launchers took me DOZENS of tries to get past the section where you run out of rocket launchers.

Still, both were absolutely amazing action movie moments if you were playing on Normal.

I wasn't even aware RAGE had multiplayer, last I heard that detail was "TBA", and they were super focused on creating an epic single player console focused sandbox car fighting game in an effort to be as Bizarro-id as possible.
