I couldn't play QuakeLive for long cause I'm OCD about turning off the browser and other extra stuff when Serious Gaming, and I can't do that with QL ![]()

I'm kinda worried about it, because they keep mentioning "offline in single player" but it doesn't seem like the game actually has any SP content beyond botmatches, and they seem to be pushing this for 360/PS3 and online multiplayer on those platforms pretty much instantly dies unless you're Halo or Call of Duty, and this is neither. I don't think this'll do all that great, whether or not it's a good game

Thrik, that game already came out, it's called Pokemon Snap

There should be more games like Pokemon Snap. I can't think of a single other one besides half a gameplay element with Dead Rising and they cut it from the sequel.

Maybe they could piggyback even further on COD and make it about exposing war crimes of soldiers like those in the Modern Warfare games, including the finale being about exposing a CIA agent joining terrorists planning on attacking a Russian airport.

Truly actions worth of a medal of honor, right?
That's probably my real legit problem with this, there aren't any actually hugely motivating, honorable stories to tell in the Iraq/Afghanistan wars. The absolute best real life scenarios have all been terrorist leaders captured without killing. There's pretty much no good videogame sections you could make based on these situations that wouldn't be just blindly shooting brown people holding AKs.
I hope you are kidding and\or is not aware of missions done in Iraq\Afghanistan.http://%7boption%7d
Any National Geographic documentary from Iraq\Afghanistan on Special Forces etc.
If you just search a bit, you end up realizing that there are tons of very interesting successful, failed or just general missions. It's not all about training the ANA or Iraqi army, or guarding the local burgerking (which PMCs do, amog VIP protection and other boring "railshooter" type scenarios).
So a failed mission where the gameplay would be defending a central location until you get knocked out by an explosion? That's not quite up to the super ultra Audie Murphy inspired heroism the past Medal of Honor games have been based on.
Speaking of Audie Murphy, why hasn't there been any games directly based on playing as him? Seems obvious to me. After WW2 he started in over 40 Hollywood movies including one based on his autobiography so it's not like he had a problem with his likeness/actions being used in entertainment.

If you play a PMC and just walk around fucking with the populace, hauling people into the streets, stopping cars for no reason, operating outside of any sort of moral or ethical realm, then it might...it might just have a chance.

I mean, the way the COD series has gone far from the original concept of the phrase "call of duty", what with MW2's themes of getting fucked by your superiors etc, but that's not quite as galling as a "Medal of honor" about engaging in a morally dubious conflict that serves no benefit to your home country.
I'd actually like to see someone give scripted WW2 FPS one last big hurrah, ending with a Top Secret mission where you raid Hitler's bunker and kill him, and there's a hidden room easter egg that has an empty robot chaingun suit in it.

Either the game's farther from being done than I thought and that was stand-in monologue for Alan or they got one terribad voice actor for the main character.

The police banter was pretty good though, "Have you seen this guy? He wears a tweed jacket!"

I beat Modern Warfare Mobilized and the last level made me
, the last boss is a automatically closing door that fails the mission if you don't get past it and the game ends with a 30 second touchscreen minigame while the real bad guys get away scott free. Your only accomplishment is recovering the nuke that you were supposed to have gotten in level 1. There's no good reason the bad guys just don't flee with the nuke anyway instead of setting it off, the mission's out in the middle of nowhere in an oil refinery, and they have a ton of time to set up everything while waiting for you to grind through the red shirts, and they get away anyway, it's not like it was a last stand for them. It totally took out any feeling of accomplishment there could've been to beating it. -
I fucking hate it when game companies revive a franchise and just name the game the name of the franchise/first game. Fuck you Sonic the Hedgehog/Wolfenstein/Medal Of Honor!
I also fucking hate that dude's beard. Like, c'mon, ever heard of a razor?
I'm currently playing through MOH: Allied Assault right now (Call of Duty 0.5) and I'm actually liking it pretty well, except for the prerequisite on rails section and the obviously necessary Normandy Beach level (realistically rendered in that you have like 1/10 chance of surviving to just the first checkpoint because the machinegunners in the pillboxes clearly recognize you, the super soldier who's killed a million nazis, the one player controlled character who's actually a threat, and gun for you to the exclusion of all the other soldiers unless you hide behind cover for a minute).

I'm having this same problem with Modern Warfare Mobilized, its default view is roughly as zoomed on as you'd expect iron sights to be in a different game. Makes me seriously disoriented, and gets me killed a lot. It's like, seriously, if this is the best you can do with 3d you should've made it a 2.5d game. It's not like the gameplay is actually using the third dimension

Am I missing something or was that a video celebrating a guy for paying his taxes

This console generation has done a lot to move in the same direction as PC, hasn't it.

Were you playing on PC, Lord Ned? Cause the gamers with jobs cast also said they had no problems, and the reviewer said he played the PC version (in bootcamp on his mac of course
) and had a much easier time, even though he wasn't used to mouse control. -
You can do the same with Tweak UI in XP, and set alternate behaviors like flashing the taskbar tab instead.
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/Down ... rtoys.mspx
As well as a few other neat things like remove that curved arrow Windows puts at the corner of shortcut icons, make holding a mouse over a window give that window focus instead of needing to click it (would also help with the stealing focus issue), disable auto-play on removable media instead of just CDs, also disable it by drive letter (important for security), etc.
Dunno if there's anything like this for Vista or 7 though

Harsh L4D2 360 review, just heard about this from Gamers with Jobs. Reading between the lines I'm guessing the bug is that the difficulty levels don't effect the Director like they should, so on all difficulty levels the special infected are getting Expert level spawn rates.

They're only using MW2 specifically for the header, this is a much broader scope:
GAMES TESTED24, The Game
Army of Two
Battlefield Bad Company
Brothers in Arms - Hell's Highway
Call of Duty 4
Call of Duty 5
Close Combat: First to Fight
Conflict Desert Storm
Far Cry 2
World in Conflict
Frontlines: Fuel of War
Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter
Hour of Victory
Medal of Honour Airborne
Metal Gear Solid
Soldier of Fortune
Tom Clancy Rainbow 6 Vegas
Tom Clancy Splinter Cell Double Agent
True Crime Streets of LA
Which of these games let you torture prisoners? I'll admit I haven't played them all, but the only game I've ever seen that let me torture anybody was The Punisher from last gen.

not sure if i get your meaning 100%, but they are saying that they have to do the shitty kids games to keep the revenue going while they work on their own innovative games, which then get pirated and cause them to fall back on the shitty kids games because no publisher will take a chance when the game, although heavily played, didn't sell many copies.
i think in part it is the console manufacturers fault that they don't do enough to prevent piracy on their machines. a console is a very closed system and should be much easier to control.
I thought they were saying that their kiddy game WAS innovative and unique and totally worth all your money you've just never heard of it. Either way, innovative game, shitty game, best game ever, when you're focused on the casual market the actual quality of your title doesn't mean anything compared to how much advertising you do. Casual gamers don't spread stuff around by word of mouth at nearly the same amount mainstream or hardcore gamers do (and even then, frequently it's a copy of the game shared instead of a purchase recommendation, casual gamers also have no attachment to the industry and don't care how many copies you end up selling).
-
I agree with barrakid. Piracy or no piracy, they're shooting for a small, oversaturated market as a tiny little studio, their business model is fundamentally flawed. Innovation is not what sells copies in casual games focused on babies and small children. Walmart posters and commercials on TV are. Look at those Ubisoft Imagine games. You can't get less innovative than that, but I just saw a Walmart commercial for the "Imagine Series" last week while watching Fox. They're selling crazy.
As far as I'm concerned, if you're a small/indie studio that can't afford at the bare minimum magazine ads and press copies, you're fucking insane if you're not making your games focused on platforms and distribution sources that give you free advertising, like PC digital distro services.

Weird to see a Russian game with English voice acting, being narrated by someone in German. Even weirder that she randomly uses English phrases like "Bioshock" and "Interface". Is there really no German word for interface?

@ the hitman comments there are many teams at io you may have noticed that mini ninjas managed to get developed in parallel with kane and lynch 1 and 2 for example
so why wouldn't that work for a hitman game ?!I think a lot of people are nervously anticipating news on Hitman 5, cause for a lot of us Blood Money was just so goddamn perfect, and a lot of companies these days don't seem to be willing to make "more of a good thing", plus in the time since Blood Money there have been a lot of new trends in AAA titles, and while the Hitman series has never been one to follow in the footsteps of other games, Kane and Lynch took some suggestions from stuff like Gears and other contemporary third person shooters. People are worried IO's gonna "ruin" it, and there's a fear of the unknown going on there. Similar stuff's going on with Thief 4 and DX3, especially since what details that have been released via concept art and stuff for DX3 got a really negative reaction from fans.
