These arguments over OnLive's technical feasibility wouldn't be nearly as heated if they'd just focus on games where input lag wouldn't really make a difference, like Civ 4, where they could also have the player's mouse cursor rendered locally and just send which GUI elements he clicks on back to the OnLive server. But no, instead they're focusing on YOU CAN GET GOOD GRAFFIKS FOR ONLY $30/mo PLUS THIS BOX LOOK ITS CRYSIS!!

I can see Sentura being the kind of person who would have a potentially great idea in his head, but not have a way of making it fit into the space a videogame has to occupy; and refusing to back down on his ideas. Consequently being a horrible person to work with, let alone for.

Hey man, you're just thinking of it the wrong way, you don't gotta shrink the idea, you just gotta expand the videogame!!

I was about to say I could sympathize with Sentura, I'm not sure I would be comfortable working for Blizzard given the types of games they make is almost alien to me, but then I realized that making an MMO environment that millions of people will experience and practically live in seems like it'd be very rewarding, and not nearly so alien as an RTS level or something.

    So far from christmas sales,

    Sniper Elite

    Defense Grid: The Awakening

    Killing Floor x2

    Galactic Civilizations 2

    Space Ranger 2

    Immortal Defense

And I'm staring crooked at Arx Fatalis and Gothic 2 on GOG, trying to resist the temptation to buy them so I can have them forever on a DD site

I was thinking "Man that looks familiar to a game I used to play as a kid" and then the site comes right out and says it's a remake of Sky Roads.

That youtube video makes it look kinda hard though...

Edit: I deleted it after the second level of "Classy", fuck this game and its stupid lack of air control or any sort of precise movement fffffffffffff

PS The song for the "Element" level group sounds like it's stolen from Knytt Stories

If nothing else I'd imagine Miller could hire a third party team to finish the game. I'm pretty sure he's behind all the licensed external Duke games that we did end up getting post-Duke3d.

You can't do much more annoying on the internet than getting all bothered over alternate spellings. It's literally like if you got up in somebody's business IRL because they had a different accent than you.

Gal Civ 2 and Space Rangers 2 off Impulse, Sniper Elite and Defense Grid: The Awakening off Steam. Total for all of these is like $8 and change.

Impulse client sucks ass compared to Steam btw. I've got Impulse itself installed in D:\games\ but it decided to stick Gal Civ 2 in C:\Program Files\Stardock\GC2\ instead, without prompting. I've got a secondary drive for a reason, Stardock

Yeah, the writing was on the wall as soon as Microsoft was announced as publisher.

I'm still waiting for Fable 2

I found it most sad for one of the developers who - as a professional - only ever worked on DNF for several years. Poor guy.

I feel sorry for all the 3DR employees, they were paid significantly less than average, with the promise of profit sharing on a released DNF. If I was one of those guys laid off recently thanks to the guys running the show fucking up, I'd want to kill somebody. I don't know how a single person on that team didn't quit at any of the points Brussard made them scrap a build and start over from nothing because somebody else released a new game.

ok i am going a bit off topic here so let me apologize for that in advance

and i dont mean to insult anyone either there is no way i could draw somethign as awsome as that

BUT i have always been and will always be bothered by people making close to photo real drawings as "concept art" of stuff that exists in real life and you could just go and take a photograph of it instead as a reference to the other production artists ! i don't really get what is so "concepty" about it ?! i always thought concept art was so that people who were about to build something that doesn't exist yet to understand the "concept" of that new thing. but a muddy road in the forest with logs of wood really isn't a concept someone would have to GET ... of course it can severe more purposes like the light-setup and mood to guide people in that way but really in my eyes its not concept art anymore at that point ( nitpick extreme ). also with stuff that exists in real life i cant wash that taste out of my mouth that somebody just painted over an existing picture or photoshoped stuff together and than gave it a lot of brush stroke artifacts to make it appear as if the whole thing was hand painted ... i was quit disillusioned when i saw the io concept artist at work ( mind you they are fantastic artist too just like this guy ... but still ... )

Your problem is that it's a realistic landscape instead of a painting of a fantasy setting?

There are realistic, possible settings for games that you'd still want to fictionalize for the purposes of having a different landscape, and artistic imagining. For Crysis 1 I doubt they could've successfully replaced their environmental concept art with photographs of tropical islands cut from National Geographic.

Besides, I think it's easier, as an artist, to try to build off another artistic work, rather than a photograph. "Do this" for a painting just feels easier than "Do this" for a real picture. In level design I've attempted to accurately recreate real places from pictures before, and its ridiculously hard, especially trying to translate real spaces into in-editor/game units and distances, and even if you get it "right" from an accuracy standpoint it might end up completely "wrong" for gameplay, typically real places require a lot more walking around without doing something or seeing something interesting that we don't tolerate when playing a game. But if you're building a fictional, but realistic place, you can improvise all you want. Real life is super constraining

Heh okay, I just think it'd be more interesting to see them tackle something completely different since they obviously nailed tropical jungles. Wouldn't surprise me that a lot of folks at Crytek have felt the same way, at least based on stuff such as this: http://www.incrysis.com/index.php?optio ... 5&Itemid=1 (The art from that fantasy setting looks absolutely amazing btw)

Anyway, the idea of doing an urban environment sounds cool, can't wait to see how amazing it'll look

Wow, that's one of the best pieces of concept art I've ever seen, artistically. I'd totally get a print of that for my wall

It's pretty funny seeing all the comments on the PC GOTY video complaining about PvZ getting nominated instead of MW2 or whatever. Anyone who doesn't get why PvZ is up there with those other good games never bothered to play PvZ, IMO.

So far though my game of the year is a DS game

why not? I never played anything like this.

I really love the music and how it fades between zooming in and out.. awesome touch =).

Because innovation is more than just making something different. It's about progression forward into better stuff. This will not revolutionize platformers. The next Mario title will not be played on sliding tiles.

I lost my DS stylus, so I bought these:

Shipping from China's slow as hell and Fighting Fantasy, Might and Magic: Clash of Heroes, and Zelda: Spirit Tracks all just came out, though. I'm improvising with a mechanical pencil that has a small, rounded tip in the meantime.

Platformer + sliding block puzzle is not innovative fyi

I played through just over half the levels and had only seen two really clever puzzles, somebody convince me to keep going
