Just read some possibly positive news: IW is located in California, where non-compete clauses are not legally enforceable.

Rumors and all, I know, but to be honest then it wouldn't surprise me that Activision would pursue this kind of action.
It really is amazing just how bad a decision that would be on Activision's part if true. Like, worst decision ever.

The G4TV article now links to an SEC filing which supposedly notes that Actiblizz is investigating IW for "Insubordination by two senior staff", though the page is so huge that it made my browser croak and I had to kill it before I could scan through the article to see if it was real.
Has anyone actually heard any jokes/comments about Activision from IW lately? I can't think of anything since the "Fear Uncertainty and Doubt" profiles from that one MW2 multiplayer preview.

Wait, this is a Treyarch cod, right? It would be pretty weird if IW went back in time now.
Though if they announced that their next cod was finally going back to address the end of COD2 I'd laugh pretty hard.

I tried WaW the other day and it ran so bad compared to COD4 it was unplayable. I don't know how they could get such wildly divergent results from the exact same engine. I can't even find the config .ini to try and turn off whatever mandatory special effects are running to make the whole game look monotone and run in super slo-mo.
What I guess I'm saying is fuck Treyarch

I got all the penumbra games packaged together for $5 on Gamersgate. Feel kinda guilty for such a deal.
I'll try and get AMNESIA THE DARK DESCENT when it comes out at full price. -

":2wnjfgnp]Oh, penumbra it's an awesome game!I loved the puzzle where you must actually learn and use morse code, fuckin awesome!
Black Plague's puzzle where you had to
Quoterepair a damaged server by custom loading individual hardware cards with proper software, all while under the threat of the monster you locked in a closet five feet behind the computer you're using to solve the puzzle
was one of the best ever. Pretty much everything in that room from start to finish was fantastic.

Most generic game title ever

The Penumbra games owned though, definitely gonna give this a shot.

Even if OnLive worked perfectly I'd still vastly prefer local games instead of streamed ones, for pretty much the exact reasons people are up in arms over the new Ubi DRM thing.

Man, what's wrong with you guys, Civ 4 came out five years ago dudes, it's been more than long enough for a new Civ. I've personally been waiting a while for this one, cause I love most of Civ4 but hate the combat mechanics, the announcement of hexes and redone combat and new engine = I'm so getting this

-
Do you hate good, open ended, extremely atmospheric first person shooters? If so, then no, it's not.
Otherwise, totally, this is arguably the best Stalker game.
-
Those textures own, but that's not part of DX11, according to the article, DX11 is depth of field (Which I could care less about, I started playing Mass Effect recently and specifically went in the ini to turn that shit off), and increased poly count, which doesn't seem nearly as good as those textures for making those dudes look good.

...which turned out to be complete rubbish. I doubt very much that GSC will use anything other than their own tech.
Yeah, the Cryengine rumor's been around since SHOC but they keep using Xray and they keep upgrading it with new features every game release. If they were planning on moving on, DX11 features doesn't seem like something they'd put their time into.
Quote from Bic-B@lli bought stalker for the steam holiday sale and just started today, played probably 3 hours. it's ok, though incredibly annoying that i have to go back to the beginning often and traverse across crap i already did. plus i find the roving radiation shit dumb and annoying too.
Assuming you mean the first one, you don't have to return to the beginning often, stop scavenging things that aren't super valuable like artifacts, and stash stuff you don't need but want to sell in those blue boxes that you find laying around (where you're at the most convenient one is probably at the train station in the west side of Garbage). Pretty soon you're gonna unlock passage to the Bar, where there's a new trader and new source of quests, so you won't have any reason to return to the starting village.

Got scared shitless in some fucked up anomaly caves, had fun Solid Snaking my way through a zombie occupied sawmill to find some tools, killed some mercenaries to steal a laptop, had the main quest update to tell me to move on to the next area. Really great, fun play session this morning.

I would probably be more angry at this announcement if I wasn't a) Laughing at the horrible logic they claim is the reason for the cancellation (MS hasn't published a PC exclusive game since the prettied up versions of Solitaire and minesweeper that came with Vista!
), and b) Playing through the STALKER games again and basking in their complete opposing design focus from your average game that Microsoft would have anything to do with. I remember soon after SHOC came out, GSC announced that they had gotten 360 and PS3 devkits, and people were worried the games would be changing.
Quote":2b4kmjjp]i don't have any link to support this, but I believe that Max Payne might sold around 5 million copies while Max Payne 2 sold 1/2 million copies. That's why it was considered a disappointment.
There's a big difference between 1-2 million copies sold and "nobody bought it", any company disappointed with a million sales would have to be delusional or spending GTA4 money on the project, and I don't think MP2 cost that much. Sins of a Solar Empire sold 600,000 copies and Stardock were publicly ecstatic with the number, especially since they claim over half the sales were through their DD platform, Impulse.

I started playing this game last night, and holy crap it looked bad at first. I guess they changed around what the graphical default settings mean, because when I started it on "static low" like I played Clear Sky through at (Good game btw, Limansk owned, too bad about the final two levels after that being horrible), COP started up looking like something that could conceivably run on an N64. Changing the graphical preset to "High" and maxing out the Object Detail bar helped, but the ground textures still look like muddy ass. Apparently detail textures are DX10 only for some reason.
I imagine though at least this will become less obvious when I'm not in an area actually supposed to be muddy and bland looking (the game starts in a swamp) and get to somewhere with grass and shit. -
There's also the detail that the body being dug up by the robot in that teaser is the player, who was left for dead in a shallow grave. The robot's controlled by a doctor who was a former vault dweller, that's how the plot starts.

I actually really like the Xray engine and I hope they stick with it, now. I don't think there's another engine on earth with such wildly diverging minimum system requirements and requirements for maxed out features. The Call of Pripyat benchmark runs like a dream in Static Rendering on my three year old "meant for homework only" low end Dell with integrated graphics.

I've got COP sitting on my desk right now actually, waiting for my Clear Sky game to end. Shouldn't be more than two days. It's tempting to skip ahead but after I finish CS and COP, where would I turn from there for more open ended atmospheric super russiany FPS? Huh? Nowhere, that's where. So I'm gonna try and savor it.
-
I've been playing CS since COP isn't on any DD site yet, and I'm actually liking it. Guess ten patches finally got it decent. Some of the voice work is ok, my main problem is when they decide to trigger an NPC saying a line, the whole "Guys don't relax, it might not be over" "Is it over?" "Relax your sphincters it's over" shit is super annoying when going on raids with dudes, as well as Sidorovich and the squad leaders (the guys that are marked on your map that give you quests) constantly babbling non-stop when you're nearby. Yesterday I developed a bug where anytime I come within visible distance of the cordon village one of Sidorovich's "player's standing there in front of me but not interacting with me yet I MUST COMMENT ON THIS" lines plays. Shut the fuck up, sid

I like the suggestion (Via the Calfornia Republic flag the guy at the end's holding) of a plot tie-in to Fallout 2.
Wonder if we're gonna get to visit the old locations from that game?
