Started up Dragon Age II earlier. I'm about 2 hours in and not really sure what to make of it. It's Dragon Age... but.. not. It's a very different game from the original. Uglier, too.

Did you install the texture pack? I think the game looks pretty good except for the occasional scene like when they're sailing into Kirkwood between two extremely low poly cliffs that look like geometry from Unreal 1 from 12 years ago, on non-reflective water. When you're actually on foot in a place, it looks pretty good. In the "gallows" when I first looked up and saw the massive towers and decoration of the city? Damn. That's a nice skybox.

Also I wanna say the music in that trailer was REALLY REALLY GOOD.

Really, except for the animation bug they couldn't have made a trailer more exciting for me personally I love every second of it.

That looked really freaking good. I hope the rubber banding you could see on moving mechs is something that will be fixed, of course, but besides that hell YEAH. Just the kind of game I want.

Today in Bad Company 2 I parachuted through the explosion of the helicopter I was riding, landed in the cloud of smoke and debris, LMG'd two enemy soldiers, and stole their tank.

(then the same damn aliens enemy helicopter that shot up my ride blew up my tank. )

I picked up the last Call of Juarez game, Bound in Blood, because of the Cartel trailer. It's pretty good. VERY pretty. Controls feel a bit weird though, especially the mouse, and the oddly laggy weapon select wheel (since when is middle mouse called "M2" btw?). Also for some reason the ubisoft logo runs like shit and then the rest of the game is fine

ayn rand tells the same story with the same basic cast of characters in every book she wrote. just pick the shortest one. atlas shrugged is the long one.a lot of conservatives in the US are going to rally around this without realizing that it's not about them.

    and that trailer was awful.

pretty much. "author writes mary sue version of self in book; attempts to justify prejudices and hatred". It's gonna either look way worse in film, or the movie's gonna rewrite everything to either be MIA or tongue in cheek, Starship Troopers style. I'm hoping for the latter, I could use a good political comedy. Instead the trailer just looks straight up awful. "Part 1" ahaha.

I can't play Rainbow Six anymore. I could totally figure that tactical map shit out as a kid, but now it's like a foreign language to me. No idea how to do anything. When I want tactical, I play L4D2, because of the planning you have to do as infected.

Quote from the source of the wiki:

The original Dead Space used the Visceral Engine. Dead Space 2 is also using the same engine.

(I'm tempted to cut off that first sentence but that would be wrong )

    Going back further:

    Quote

EA revealed that the EA Redwood Shores developed Dead Space is being built on the same engine that powered The Godfather games - albeit a highly modified version that includes all the next-gen features we've come to expect.

Calling it the "Visceral engine" is a retcon pretty much They were still EARS until I think just before DS came out (or Dante's Inferno came out, one of those)

Edit: To show some humility, until I just looked up those wiki sources I would've sworn to you Visceral, previously EA RS, was previously Dreamworks Interactive, makers of Jurassic Park Trespasser and Clive Barker's Undying. But no, that's EA LA, not EA RS.

Dead Space afaik uses an EA internal engine that was made for a Godfather game.

I thought that was Dead Space 1. Wasn't DS2 migrated to a newer engine?

I dunno, but they made it pretty quickly, and it looks fairly similar to DS1.

Also no Epic logo when you start it up

ah ok. Dead Space 2 is an example, but I'm not sure if it's Unreal It's true, you could do a game without any (or few) loading screens in Unreal, but I guess it's a mess if you stop working with Corridor-Only Levels and not every LD has very strict restrictions on what how to do.

Eventually it got to the point where I and most other people knew every Counter-Strike map inside out, and matches became little more than going through the motions and whichever team had the fastest and most accurate twitch skills (usually me ) won.

This is why I prefer BF to Crysis/COD/CS/etc. Though, there is something to be said for player skill being the decider of map flow ofc, but personally only for small team games. I love L4D2 versus and play in games using comp rules/mods, and those maps are very small and mostly static except for NPCs and the enemy team's performance and behavior.

The other day my team was down 700 points going into the second to last map in Parish and managed to pull out a win. In map 4 we had an early tank and beat down the other team while easily managing theirs, making it all the way to the parade float panic, and in the finale we made it to the tank (~75%) while on their run managing to pull off a four cap at the first hole in the bridge. We won by 15 points out of ~1600 on both sides and it was the most incredible feeling of victory I've ever had from an online game.

My global K/D is like 0.65. It'd be better if I stuck with what I'm good at (medic) but I feel compelled to change classes every five minutes most of the time. It says a lot about the game that I can enjoy it so much despite sucking most of the time, though.

e: Also it'd probably be better if I had more time to play but lately I've been working hard on a project, averaging like 10h/day. My steam page says I'm down to less than an hour of gaming per night now.

TBH the weapons don't really get better as you go.I have unlocked all of the weapons since you know, I've played a shitload and these are the ones I use mainly (I do switch it up a little from time to time):

    Assault: XM8 Prototype

    Medic: Type 88 LMG

    Engineer: 9A91

    Sniper: SV98

As you can see, they are all relatively early unlocks. I believe that you should have all of the above at LVL12 if you have played all classes roughly equally.

    Display More

I've got a gold star with the 88 LMG. I've only unlocked the third sniper rifle so far though, because I'm terrible with them. The only way I managed to get that far was playing the class the complete opposite of sniper: Thompson SMG, fast running, C4, up close and personal. Throwing C4 on enemy tanks feels really satisfying. Too bad the vast majority of the maps don't really facilitate that. The heavily urban maps are the best in the game, IMO.

That might be something to think about if any thought whatsoever was put into the Crysis 2 map instead of an asshole scribbling all over it and dying the whole thing blue, as if anyone's getting naded standing on the helipad or that building you can jump to in the top right from the roof with the water tower.

Not to mention IMO the limited lines in the CSS map are bad and make for camper/sniper rewarding gameplay at the expense of any other strategy or loadout. In every "popular" CS map you can count on over half any given team to be sitting perfectly still with a sniper rifle, scoped, staring at a choke point, and it's awful (just like unmodded CS is in general)

Also it's missing a ton of blue areas, like the tunnel with the big wooden doors at the top of the map, while the big ramp that goes down to a dead end is all blue when nobody ever goes there, because it's a dead end, and trying to ambush somebody from below them instead of above puts you at a big disadvantage and nobody ever tries that except in specific map layouts that might excuse it, like if the trench has open area on both sides above it to give more visible targets to the ambushee, thus distracting them from the potential ambush point.

Edit: Also that area south of the tunnel most of the CT spawn in, that's past the wooden doors at the bottom of the slope from T spawn. It's a popular area to get headshot, but lots of grenades get thrown around those doors as well.

I'm level 12 and still get annoyed when some level 50 guy with some fancy gun I've never heard of kills me, even though with all the shit I've unlocked so far have been super incremental. My favorite of the medic LMGs I've unlocked was the second one that you get around the same time you unlock the paddles.

The BF3 announcement and Crysis 2 demo has got me playing a lot of BC2 again. Today, in one match, I got a general level, a medic level, two lifetime achievement medals (100 headshots and 100 assists), and two gun achievement stars.

Those environments look REALLY good. The characters not so much, but those environments are very cool. Also I thought the driving looked really good. Not sure how to quantify that, but the bit with weaving through traffic looked very smooth. Of course it also kinda sorta reminds me of Enter the Matrix. Hopefully if you aren't playing as the driving character the AI doesn't just constantly run the car into walls and pillars.
