I wish he was my representative. My representative won campaigning on "the other guy voted for the bailout!" and then in his victory speech declared deregulation as his key goal in office. Pretty sure I threw something at my TV when I saw that.
Quote from TaylorFinished Mass Effect 2 Arrival.
I just played through this, and boy that was a disappointment. Nowhere near as good as Shadow Broker, nonsense happenings, and really in the long view this "lead in to ME3" does nothing but make the Reaper deadline a bit more specifically nailed down. Not to mention the actual art and levels feel mod quality at best. The new character, the main character of the mod, that scientist lady, looks terrible, especially her lip sync. If it weren't for the minute or so of CGI and Shepard's dialog, you wouldn't be able to convince me this wasn't a fan mission and there was some hidden Mass Effect 2 SDK out there that I was unlucky enough never to encounter.

Considering he spends most of it hiding along what looks like the outer edge of the play area, yeah. Seems rather dishonest to frame what's looked like a pretty challenging feat as a "man look at this bad game just like blops" video (judging by the title and description at least that seems to be the intention). Also wonder why is Gabe Newell in the tags? ![]()
Well I was PLANNING on checking out the april fools update made to Super Meat Boy, but...

Those tidbits reminded me of Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath for some reason
I'd play it (if it's good)
It's been long enough since the last Max Payne game, or any game remotely like Max Payne, that I'd be 200% happy with a game mechanically perfectly identical to Max Payne 2. Same camera, same guns, same feel, same design. Just gimme new slums of New York to shoot through and some pixel shaders or some shit and go.

Vilham, I live with one of gameplay coders. Save&Load is the most complex and bitch thing you can deal with in a video-game. It's sounds easy as fuck, all you need to do is save the current state of the game and the load it like it was... Right? WRONG. I think I'd risk it to say that half the bugs in games are caused from save&load problems. It's complex, and it's hard to implement and it generates a lot of problems.
Why don't you just save an entire carbon copy of the level in its current state like Deus Ex, huh!? ![]()
Quote from OrpheusSometimes we have to ask ourselves if we are so speed oriented that we cannot take the time necessary to save a game the old fashion way. I can honestly say that I have never used a quick save/load option in a game. Now of course, I cannot play nearly as often as I once did but when you think that saving any game takes less than 4 or 5 seconds its a bit OTT to cry about not having a quicker way./2cents
lol
Quote from FuryoNo it's not. Far from it. EA's money allowed Crytek to expand and fund their endeavour on the consoles. If you think making the most pirated PC exclusive for 3 years running gives you anywhere from 20 to 60 million euros to pour into your next game, you're sadly mistaken.
I don't think you guys beat Spore. Spore was a game people pirated as some sort of message about DRM (online activations! oh god! man, we've come so far since then). Crysis 1 just got pirated as a benchmark, and there aren't THAT many new top of the line PCs built each year, are they? ![]()
Quote from FuryoYeah but it's too easy that way JSL. If people complaining aren't willing to take part in a conversation and have actual answers other than joyfully bitching away at this or that because it's fun or they have the right to, then just as equally anyone else is entitled to dismiss their bitching entirely. I'm all for having a discussion and actual feedback from gamers, but it doesn't help if all they want to do is rip us a new one and not listen to the actual causes for their complaints. It really isn't going anywhere.
I recognize that, but still people aren't going to strike off a complaint from how they might describe the game to their friends because "Oh I wish it had X but they said it was too hard to implement in a cost effective way. Ah well, besides that it was pretty good. Maybe next game, right?". As people have said in this thread, it's not just a technical quibble on their parts, but a serious impact on how they play games, making them feel restricted from experimentation, and frustrated due to dying and going back to checkpoints.
Also I just remembered Far Cry 2 had PC exclusive quicksave, and its normal save system was super confined, save points at indoor spots, separated from the open world. I appreciated that extra step because really, relying on those save points would've made that game fucking unplayable. >_> Getting run over and having to restart not minutes but HOURS back from the last time I was close by to a store or safehouse? Ughhh. That would happen exactly ONE TIME and then I'd never play it again ever.
Quote from ZyndromeLets not hope your boss gets any ideas and announces "Ok guys, we're porting Crysis 2 to the 3DS and iPhone as well, we'll start on monday."
Hey, iPhone got Unreal and IDTech. Crytek would be just THROWING AWAY that market if they didn't port! ![]()
Also this conversation just made me think of something: I'm going to be terribly depressed if Deus Ex 3 doesn't have quicksave. ![]()
Also Far Cry 1 didn't have quicksave support ingame but you could save anywhere you wanted with the console. What with Far Cry's save system working that way, and Crysis 1's save system working that way, I naturally assumed that Crysis 2's save system would work a certain way. I'm not going to pretend to remotely understand the technical advantages one sort of save system might have over another, the only one I've ever written is "write this plain comma delineated text to a scores.txt file in the same folder as the exe" and "load this comma delineated text from scores.txt, break it into arrays, and load it into player variables for the player to choose to load". I'm coming at this from a gamer's standpoint. The people buying the game don't know or care about how hard a certain feature might be to implement. If they want it, they want it. If it hurts the game for them that it's not there, then it hurts the game.
Quote from FuryoThe truth of the matter is that until PC as a whole (retail + digital) begins to rake in as many millions of copies sold as the consoles do by themselves, you will never see a studio focusing an entire team on making the PC game feature everything the hardcore PC market (which btw is only a fraction of all these sales) wishes they would have in their games. So 14%, 20%, 25% doesn't matter diddly squat. Start moving 3 million copies on EACH platform then we can start talking. Until that comes, and it never will for AAA hardcore games anymore, you will continue to see PC games being ports of their console counterpart. That can, in some lucky cases, entail having lots of variable, or a DoF change, and plenty of options, but the game will remain designed for consoles in the first place.
You cannot, in this day and age, justify creating a team of even as low as 20 people to make a PC version of a AAA game that would be so radically different than the console version. In the previous generation, you saw the last examples when production costs were 10% what they are now. Not anymore.
A lot of those same hardcore PC guys are fine with non-AAA games, though. I know I am. I don't even have a PC good enough to run Crysis 2 on Extreme, my video card cost $60 on sale ![]()
Anyway it's kind of a weird argument/discussion to have, because of what you might define as the features "everything the hardcore PC market wishes they could have". Frequently, that's "good controls, quicksave, options, stable". The "Just don't be RE4" school of thought. Even more frequently, that's "have the game be released at all (I want to play Red Read Revolver
)". There really isn't that much of a difference for games made for the PC specifically from multiplatform games, just usability tweaks. I doubt you could find a single person on the internet to claim Half-life 2 is better than Episode 2, despite the former's PC exclusive development and the latter's multi-platform release. If you look past stupid stuff like "oh this one specific texture out of hundreds is lower resolution", the main issues I've heard with Crysis 2 are a) No quicksave, b) different from previous game in series, c) No security in online multiplayer, d) $60. B is kind of a marketing issue. D is out of anybody's control that would care about people complaining about it. A and C are totally fixable things that would make a lot of people happy. As far as the actual gameplay goes, I haven't read any real complaints about how it "plays like a console game" or something except for COD comparisons, which given the multiplayer model.... ![]()
A lot of PC gamers use consoles as a scapegoat for gameplay elements they don't like because the console focus and focus on regenerating health, cover systems, over the shoulder cameras, and terrible port jobs came in unison to their videogames. But we can easily be more specific than that and find real issues that can't and shouldn't be handwaved away.
Made a Battlefield Heroes account to try and get veteran status in Bad Company 2 to get the M1 Garand. Ended up getting drawn into it a bit and played till I hit level 5. It's actually pretty fun in an odd way. You walk really slowly and people take FOREVER to die, but I found it strangely compelling.
The BF site isn't registering the existence of my BFHeroes account though. I want my garand ![]()

Do those sales figures include Steam or any other digital distribution service?
Because this (Destructoid) is the source of the quote, and they quote this (videogamer.com? Is that a well know site?) as their source, then they quote the "All Formats All Prices UK video game chart", which I think is this, but I don't see the platform number breakdown.
Not that it matters because dismissing 14% of the people that bought the game because "they probably pirated it anyway" is just abhorrent.
Quote from MinotauroWell try to play the game again nowadays. It's fucking annoying how Nemesis keep appearing every fucking minute.
I don't think I could go play and play any of the old RE games these days, not since 4 and 5.
I actually plan on replaying 5 at some point, that game was a great experience in coop. Also probably the least trouble gfwl has ever given me.
Quote from Rick_Dbut even if pc gamers didn't buy it, not much would be lost. i posted that pic earlier with 20,000 people downloading the game on pirate bay (i wonder how many more on private trackers and other torrent sites, not to mention the warez group releases on the file hosts like rapidshare, megaupload and so on), so we're already in a state where i would estimate 50% of people who have played the game on PC haven't actually bought it.
what difference does it really make if some people who probably stole the game anyway are disapointed?
That's a really super fucking terrible attitude. Christ, dude. A less adult person would wish bad luck on you and yours over that shit.
