Yeah I'm also wondering what they are going to do about single player games. Crytek isnt really renowned for their multiplayer experiences and thats where the f2p money is, right?Anyways, this is super exciting

There are "MMO" f2p games with a heavy single player/small party focus. As long as the game has an multiplayer/communal side, I think that could support SP content. Spiral Knights on Steam is kinda like that. You're with everyone when you're in town, but when you go questing/grinding, you're alone, or matched up with at most three other people.

Damn, sure it's heavily scripted (but then, most demos are at E3), but I really like the vibe and style from this. It feels a bit fresh for once.

I actually felt like there was a bunch of stuff in there that implied player agency in a cool way. The PC could have confronted the target in a bunch of different ways and places, and chose to use hacking to cause a dramatic traffic pileup to stop him. The PC could've instead waited inside the club and had a shootout, or rammed the target's car with a hijacked one, etc. The implication of those options in what you do and where really sold me on the game.

The character design and use of 'magic' is very BioShock-esque. These guys worked on BioShock 2 so it's no coincidence.

That was just MP maps AFAIK, though, and Bioshock 2 MP blew. They took the COD RPG model except instead of going from one assault rifle to a slightly better one, you go from a revolver to a rocket launcher. Just a liiiiitle bit unbalanced and unfun.

Yeah it's Rockstar they don't really have the best track record this generation for PC versions

The direction and implied thematic setting was awesome, and I'm a huge sucker for well done rain effects. Love it.

An mmo that's exactly like single player stalker in the context of story (not necessarily location, though I'm very attracted to the Chernobyl meltdown lore), feel, and atmosphere, with the majority of the stalker ai replaced by gamers playing in the world, exploring, encountering crazy shit, etc, would really bring something to the game.Instead of returning to the newbie stalker camp and sitting at the campfire, watching ai play the guitar or what ever, it's real people talking about what they encountered on their most recent trip into the zone. Sounds awesome in my head, I don't know how it would turn out if executed correctly.

If having real people in the game with you sounds awesome you just haven't played enough MMOs, especially F2P ones. There's a shitload on steam, go try one out.

One of the most important parts of the STALKER games was the atmosphere, especially the unsettling loneliness as you explore a hostile, alien landscape. Thus, we make it into a free to play MMO! C# and XNA is the best way I know of (because it's the only way I have first-hand experience with). I'm currently working on a roguelike in XNA, actually.

COP has like no bugs, especially no significant bugs. Game's clean as a whistle. COP Complete makes it less stable, and isn't remotely as worthwhile as Shoc Complete or CS Complete.

I'm finishing Skyrim as we speak. I'm on 101 hours now and half way through the main quest. It goes really fast since I already explored and/or cleared every location they are sending me to. I think I'll end up at 105 hours, max 110. It's a lot of time but I had a blast.I installed the complete mod for Stalker: Call of Pripyat. After 100+ hours of RPG, it's time for a shooter

Don't play COP with Complete. Its primary worthwhile feature is integrating Amtosfear (a weather/graphics mod) and the original content is buggy and performance ruining. If you've never played it before, install nothing, or at most Atmosfear (go into its options and turn off the gameplay features like psi storms and blowout zombies), and if you have, try SGM (if you want a vastly expanded experience), or Misery (if you want a more challenging and atmospheric experience).

The face of that Bloodsucker is weird. Really human-skeleton looking, instead of the demonic, beady-eyed originals.

While that's true, I do wonder just how much overdraw there is from floating polys, and how expensive that shader is to draw. At the most basic level, all he's done is offset the performance cost for the scene from the texture memory onto the processor. While its an impressive demonstration, it isnt black magic.

Texture memory and disk read speed are bigger, more pressing limits for most situations than shader processing. He says in the polycount thread his shader's not exactly free, but cheap enough that an ipod could run it.

You can kinda see something similar with Epic's latest "Samaritan" demo version. They replaced MSAA with FXAA- hardware AA with a shader- and as a result saved like 120MB of vram usage per frame, because FXAA is cheaper and way more compatible with deferred rendering.

As an aside, I remember when Bioshock came out, Irrational were joking that they had so much room in their performance benchmarks for more shaders that they were adding new ones just for text rendering.

Looking at that video it seems the console UI is completely different, but in the PC version you can simply click each weapon on the spawn screen and immediately swap it with any other weapon in your arsenal via a small pop-up — same applies for specialisations, etc. I don't think it could really be any more streamlined.

Oh, neat. I never knew that was there.

I actually agree with 5. Scrolling through weapons and accessories one at a time when changing them is pretty bogus. It's not excruciating, but I actually have to think about it and put in the effort to recognize each item instead of scanning a list for what I want or pushing in the direction of the icon I know from a wheel or grid or something. I want to say Bad Company 2 did it better, but it's been a billion years since I played Bad Company so I'm probably completely off there.

Edit: IIRC, I think BC2 might've shown gun stats on the equipment menu as you scroll past them, making them more easy to compare. BF3 gives you way less info.

PathPix, Dungeon Raid, Helsing's Fire, Azkend, Geared. All touch-based puzzles. They're all great. As far as more action-oriented games, there's Zombie Highway, Temple Run, I Dig It, Jetpack Joyride, Infinity Blade, and Anomaly. Also try Game Dev Story if you're ok with PC gaming being treated as a bastard child.

Manshep run animation is just as bad. Dude goes about the normandy like he's got a load in his pants. Not terribly surprising, since the normandy men's room only has two toilets, but still he should probably go clean himself up during the loading screen.
