I like how Far Cry 2 has the Riddick health system, I heard the actual plot of the game is ridiculously stupid. One week till it's unlocked on Steam!

I heard that the different campaigns for SC2 are supposed to have 26-30 missions each? Is this right? Because if so, these absolutely are as long as Starcraft 1's lone campaign. SC1's campaign was 30 missions, with Brood War being 28.

why do people always have to bitch about stuff? this is a free mod ffs, if you dont like it your free to fuck off to wherever you want. i find these types of intolerant consumers hard to stand.. honest feedback? fine. but whining and bitching like this on such a massive scale.. wtf man? :-|

If you can't tolerate criticism and negative response you probably shouldn't be putting anything online for public consumption.

    Or, be perfect.

Whining about people who whine is just as annoying.

I'm hearing horrible things about this mod from all over the internet. The humans in the mod are all voiced by text to speech synthesizers working with misspelled and automatically translated english from french, the level design requires off the wall techniques such as abusing physics glitches, there are a number of level design errors such as overlapping brushes, misaligned gemoetry, nodraw textures visible, and obvious leak patchwork, over the top and unnecessary swearing throughout, etc...

Apparently the Portal Prelude forums have been shut down from all the complaints and negative responses.

If you're refering to the "units will now be unique to the campaigns" comment, I imagine it's refering to stuff like the High Elves and Naga in Warcraft 3 - which only appear in the single player and don't really have any place in multiplayer.

Or Kerrigan/infested kerrigan in starcraft 1

Kerrigan was just a named Ghost unit.

    I'm reminded of Pokemon.

I wonder how multiplayer's gonna work?

Anyways, I don't really mind it if the campaigns as as big and full as Blizzard claims. Otherwise Starcraft 3'd be a 30 GB Install!

so if you have a specific question you'd like to ask, you can PM me or post it here and I will try to answer it here if I can.

Are there LAMs or LAM-esque items.

Can you plug yourself into wall outlets.

I'd argue there's a big difference between a very simple dialogue sequence and a prolonged cut scene with the camera flying all over the place.

And Deus Ex 3 uses third person to let the player peak out from behind cover while sneaking, whats your point.

    Quote from dux

So I guess you must've just HATED Riddick going into third person for platforming and using healing devices, huh.

No, because I've never played it. I understand the need to go into first person for what it was doing. More to the point it seems you don't understand the need to when to change it and when to not.

You should play it, it's a fantastic game.

You're still not making any appreciable argument against the minimal use of third person for special actions.

I'm not talking about fully 3rd person games though. I'm talking about 1st person games that remove you from that viewpoint for X reason.

Go play some looking glass / irrational games and get back to me on the immersion subject

I have. The whole "Garret has a name and personality of his own, writes the mission briefings as if he's talking to you, and is shown acting independently in FMVs" thing doesn't throw you off that? The fact that you are in fact not a future hacker 200 years from now who got cyberized and fights an evil AI, or a space marine?

It's not a bad thing at all to be separate from the character you're controlling. Some games, for example the MGS series, fully embrace this. It's not a problem and it's not something that needs to be addressed and needless silly shit to increase "immersion" like taking away HUDs and not doing cutscenes and silent protagonists don't make games better for their inclusion. No matter what things the game dev makes for immersion the only time I ever feel the connection most gamers erroneously describe with the term is when I create that character myself. It's not necessary in the least to enjoy the game.

I find that concept of "immersion" to be extremely overrated and overrepresented in importance to gamers. Personally, the only kinds of games where I've ever felt that avatar bond type of immersion are in games where your avatar really is nothing but an avatar- a customizable shell representing you. Games like CRPGs and Harvest Moon (where you actually can't customize your character but that's besides the point, when your game goal is hard manual labor you form a connection to your character ). What's important as far as REAL immersion, ie. being immersed in play, are good design and details, ie NOT BUNGIE'S COPYPASTE HALLWAY THEORY OF DESIGN, and good controls. There are elements of realism some people support that actually break immersion and entertainment due to being cheap and unfun. Having the dialogs in DX be in third person didn't hurt MY enjoyment of the game any, certainly, and there's no chance I would ever feel like Vin Deisal anyway so the use of third person in Chronicles of Riddick was pure positive.

Just some answers to some of the major questions from our Marketing community dude.Auto Health

Yes, Deus Ex 3 will use auto-health regeneration. This is a departure from the original but the industry as a whole has grown up and changed quite a bit in the last eight years and the designers didn’t want people exploring levels just for health packs or having to reload to an old save game because they messed up a scenario and couldn’t advance. I know some people actually liked the exact scenario I just described but this is a decision the team made.

So is it like the COD system where you're the videogame equivalent of that one girl from Heroes and damage is irrelevant, like STALKER where your health regenerates over time naturally and there are healing items to help in an emergency, or what? Both systems prevent the player performing himself into a corner like that and screwing himself over, while one is unfun and arcady and far too simplified. :/ It fits Call of Duty but Call of Duty isn't a deep RPG. Call of Duty isn't about the gameplay as much as it is the "cinema" of the events, and if the hero dies that sort of ruins the scene. Deus Ex however is about consequences and options, and there's no more concrete consequence than death and options without risk are pretty boring.

    Cover System

The design has been updated to utilize a cover system should you choose to engage it. As the game is still 1st person, it’s only if you press a key when up against a wall that the view changes to a 3rd person perspective. As soon as you move away from the wall, the game returns to 1st person automatically.

So it's just an option if you want to play that way. If you like the good 'ol DX1 style, you don't have to engage the cover system if you don't want to, so you'll see even less of the contextual 3rd person elements. You can just as easily walk up to that same wall in 1st person and never see the 3rd person cover. It’s just an option if you want to see the way Adam looks with augmentations you’ve chosen throughout the game.

Can you turn off your PC connecting to the cover point if you get close? I know that's a complaint I've heard a lot about games with cover systems like GTA4 and Kane and Lynch, where the game will auto-connect to viable cover points when you're trying to move past it or near it. Perhaps a setting where you have to hold down a button while pressing against the wall to take cover, or move up against it then press into it again, like how MGS works with leaning against things (I've never heard anyone bitch about that ).

I'm actually pretty ok with the news so far. I'm not worried. I've begun to wonder about other stuff now, like "Are there LAMs or something similar". I absolutely loved Deus Ex's grenade system. All of them fall into specific uses, and all of them can double as prox mines attached to walls or hand-thrown projectiles. It was fucking awesome. Anyone who DIDN'T find DX's grenades to be awesome is a goddamn monster.

Also "Does the regen system work like COD, where it's your sole source of healing and it's all regen, or more like STALKER where there's some regen over time, increased via artifacts/augs/macguffins, with healing items for when you're in a pinch", or possibly "like Halo 1 with an outer shield that recharges and an inner health bar that doesn't and needs health items to fill".

You know, I'd actually be fine with either of the latter ones. Both fit the fiction, and both would work in an RPG, where I don't see how you'd possibly pull off COD health regen with a RPG system.

People were saying that DX3's intro is derivative of IW's, and I really don't see the connection. In DX1 you're a new recruit to UNACTO and the second Nanotech soldier. In IW you're yet another nanotech person, and currently a student in "Tarsus Academy", being trained to serve the WTO. In DX3, you're an average guy security guard who through a series of events ends up getting the Robocop treatment as far as I know.

Edit: HP, Paul is 11 years older than JC. JC in DX1 is early to mid 20's, so he's either a newborn or a fetus in a test tube (omg tie-in to the DX3 debut trailer!) circa this game.

Honestly, I think this is a really bad argument and I don't understand why some people hold that against the game. Deus Ex 1 was made like 8 years ago. The only reason why it looked the way it did was because technology didn't allow for very...lets say.... "adventurous" visuals... It was very very limiting. That's why all the buildings in the first game look like pixelated shoe boxes. Technology has advanced so much since then, enabling us to go way further with the visuals than the first game. I bet you if the people making the first game would have had the possibility of pushing the visuals the way we are now, they would have. It wouldn't make sense to create a game that looks as bland as the first Deus Ex (let's be honest, it didn't look very good). As for the art style....I love it. it's a lot of fun and in my opinion it's a nice breeze of fresh air in midst of all those brow/grey next-gen pseudo realistic games these days...

It's less the design of the environments (those look sweet ) and more the mech augs shown in the concept art and descriptions of the mech augs available, versus Gunther and Anna. They've got this decidedly low tech look to them. Bits of metal plating welded onto skin and bone, metal robo-replacement parts. With what we've seen of DX3 stuff looks far more presentable, at least, being plasticy and humanoid.

Of course, there might be a very good reason for this- after all, present day artificial limbs are plasticy and humanoid, rather than clunky metal- it's all in the utilization and abilities. Gunther and Anna have increased strength and endurance, infolinks, explode when they die, and can do stuff like track JC's heartbeat via satellite. DX3's Adam however can apparently spring tentacles out of his back and bungie jump. I hope at least as a trade-off he can't take as much of a beating, but then again he can punch through walls and do kung fu "multikills".

Edit: Maybe his limitation is a limited battery for his systems and every twenty minutes ingame you have to find a wall outlet and plug yourself in.

Edit2: My favorite of the shots released:

These created a shitstorm yesterday on the internet, with some people calling it anime and saying it looks like shit. I 'd.

There are some quibbles I can't help but agree with though, like that some of it looks more futuristic than Deus Ex, despite this game only being 20 years in the future compared to Deus Ex's 50, and wtf regenerating health?

Did Deep Silver's website get hacked or something? Because the changelog is ridiculous as fuck. Like if The Onion or Something Awful were to write a changelog making fun of Clear Sky's bugs, that's how it would've turned out. Seriously, "- Fixed several errors in multiplayer chat, including the fact that the following letters could not be entered in some circumstances: A, Z, X, C, V.", "Fixed an error, which sometimes caused the game to crash to desktop when the game was saved during an NPC death animation sequence.", how could either of those possibly exist in a retail product on it's fourth patch
