Even if the game is better than the previous one, they will be disapointed. Actually i think they just make up expectations

That's not true, at least for me. It's not difficult to make a good Thief sequel for instance. You take everything that worked in Thief 1 and 2 and you improve on it. If a team of amateurs did it, then an AAA studio can definitely do better. Instead they just chose to take everything that was wrong with Thief 3 and make it worse.

Hell the team had wide open doors to make something truly remarkable. They had a big lore just ripe for expanding (with several kickass shady factions left unexplored by Looking Glass), a level design model that worked (do more levels such as Assassins, The Cradle and Life of the Party and you'll get EVERY Thief fan happy) and keep Garrett the way he was. They did none of that.

I'm not too upset personally, since I never played the old Thief games. And I have a massive boner for Dishonored instead.

You should play them. What's fascinating about them is that once you play them, every other game will seem dull.

EDIT: I'm sure you're doing good work on it Nysuatro (aren't you working in the visuals department?), but you gotta admit your leads don't know jack shit what they're doing.

RPS already dislike this game quite a bit... actually, pretty much everyone does, and ditching XP isn't going to change anything. What I find funny is that they still have major crashes and bugs 4 months before the game is released, and they decided to remove something that was set in stone for a while, with most probably part of the core gameplay built upon it. yeeeeh.

  • Which game would you like to bring back?

I would love a new Ultima Underworld, or a new Arx Fatalis. No consolized stuff, just good old RPGs that will require you to take notes and think.

If you make your game to cater to everyone rather than making it so you find it interesting and enjoyable, then you end up pleasing no one. Eidos Montreal got lucky with DX:HR since Deus Ex is very sandboxy and is clearly not as strict as Thief, but it's another story entirely with this reboot since they seem to have utterly butchered the core gameplay.

I've written this elsewhere but I'm going to write this again: the old-time fans of the franchise and even some new blood who arrived recently think this game is an abomination because it betrays what Thief was about; a methodical stealth game set in a very original setting with great lore, and most of all with arguably the best written protagonist in a video game. The profane audience for the most part think this game is nothing more than an egdy Dishonored rip-off, and you can't blame them since the game looks almost exactly like Dishonored. I'd be extremely surprised if this game was successful, but I highly doubt it. The fans of the franchise will most likely not buy it (and that's a lot of customers, believe me) and new players will, as I said, think this is an edgy Dishonored clone.

And this is where you're wrong, Helder, sorry to say it. The die-hard fans are not a minority, especially when you read comments on gaming websites. Just read comments on RPS, PCGamer or Polygon and you'll see what I mean, or watch any official youtube video posted.

Yeah, this is really old news. Most of the die-hard fans hate this game's guts.

Man I love stealth, but I think that's one step too far. I find that boring as hell.

Well that is stealth how it should be done. TDM is one of the best mods ever made because while it is very faithful to Thief in every aspect, it actually improves on it by making it much more complex and much harder. You'll need a lot more patience and planning if you want to KO a single guard, for instance, compared to the original games. Running behind them to club them just doesn't work anymore because the guards have heightened senses and can definitely hear you running.

In the meantime there's the Dark Mod, now standalone if you need your oldschool and faithful Thief fix.

    Sooooo...

You know, I was mighty suspicious of this game. Shadow Warrior is a classic, and while it's not as good as, say, Duke3D or Doom, it's still a kickass FPS. This Shadow Warrior project had me worried because all of the reboots/re-imaginings/insert pretentious word here so far have all been either average or plain terrible. I thought it would be the same for this game.

    Oh, oh wrong I was!

It's fantastic. It has next to nothing in common with the old game, but instead of using shitty modern mechanics it actually has a clever gameplay and, gasp, great level design. I think the guns are subpar compared to the katana which is awesome, and I only play with it, but it's truly a very pleasant surprise. Lots of enemies around with some good ol' projectile attacks (this is awesome), lots of combos and all. This is great. I was pretty disappointed with Hard Reset, especially compared to Painkiller, but this Shadow Warrior is so much better than Hard Reset in almost every way. And the game is fun. Seriously, I haven't genuinely laughed so much in an FPS in a while.

Skellies and Mistresses at level 10 are absolutely insane too. They're pretty fragile but their lightning attack destroys pretty much everyone.
