As i seem to be constantly learning at the moment about many aspects of modelling and texturing I have been going back to my final year university version of this level and updating everything in it, replacing models, retexturing etc...heres how some of the new stuff is looking now (WIP)

Well as i said its not unwrapped or textured correctly yet
In fact seeing as i probably won't be including the arms anymore i guess that saves me some work..still have to texture the skull and cliff properly though -
Yep, what i was thinking was that if i kept them I'd have to give them some supports or something for realism, but at the same time they were meant to be an Unrealistic addition to a realistic level, this is for UT3 after all
For now though, the arms are gone -
Hmm this isn't the first place people have said they aren't keen on the arms..i'll have a fiddle with it, maybe totally remove them. As for the water harshness, i have to look into the water opactity still, theres problems with having heighfog and water with opacity that I need to get around first

Put this in today, got a lot of changes and additions to the level to make and this is just one..it's not properly unwrapped or textured yet i was just testing

-
Looking really nice good job, one thing that stood out, in the second picture..is the palm tree behind the buildings really huge or is it me?

Think you're in the wrong thread here m8nkey lol

Some work i just did over the past few days...it's the New York City library being affected by global warming and rising water levels (it's for the map battle over at Interlopers)

Might have been, there were three of them but the two cards i got have Alan Mealor and Jo Daly on them
-
This looks great, nice job

Thanks, i probably won't have time to fit birds in there though as it'd involve actually making them afaik. Will be something i'd like to do for the final version though when i get round to completing that after uni

Also refer to http://www.hourences.com/book/tutorialsindex.htm for UT3 tutorials

EDIT: Toned down the brightness a bit, not too much though im actually liking it like this

Thanks for the comments...i actually like the way the lighting came together, theres a lot of lights affecting the scene so it was quite complicated to put it all together, i'm happy with the results though. I was going for realistic rather than overblown (well except the sun rays) so this is maybe why it doesn't stand out enough for you i don't know. Obviously this is my first level using the new editor so maybe i'll look back on it after working with the engine some more and agree with you. The image compression is like that as they are pictures taken in the editor, not in game

Thanks, yeah the water and waterfall are things that have to be seen in motion really, i'm pretty happy with them in game. As for the moss on the rocks, that would look good yeah, unfortunately i took some of those rocks from Epic so i cant really change anything about them. I guess i could make my own, we'll have to see how it all pans out. I will be coming back to this after i finish my other university modules and ill be adding to and re-arranging it all into a playable map rather than a visual demo. My course at university is a games art one mainly, it covers things like 3D Modelling, animation etc...not level design though sadly but they let me submit this as a final piece as it contains modelling
-
Finally finished this project, at least, its ready for university hand-in but not yet ready for download or anything. Thanks to this level and the fact that i was showing it at a recent university event i was approached by companies such as Midway, Black Rock, Bizarre Creations and a few more about potential jobs after university, so i guess it's all been worth it
Thanks to everyone who helped me out on these boards, much appreciatedEDIT: These shots are taken in-editor..in game shots coming soon

Looking really good Minotauro, i like the lighting

-
Thanks, firstly the waterfall does just look like that when static, there's emitters set up on it for steam and splashes at the top and bottom and spray that comes over the rope bridge as you run across, so that's all fine in game trust me
The cliff itself you could be right about, however i'm working towards a strict deadline for university so i can't change things like that now, when i actually get round to releasing the map it will be revamped first and therell be a lot more added, which will also involve splitting the level up into sections, so i'll consider changing that then, as well as improving the prison section. As for the terrain lighting, that's also fine, i've read the Hourences guides and the lightmap resolution on it is actually probably higher than it should be! Thanks for the comments
